Your sewing room is lovely! Very well thought out. Of course I want to see your room! It’s kind of crazy, here I am in Omaha Nebraska, half a world away but I can still have a look at your space. Isn’t it wonderful, the world we live in. Seeing how other people organize encourages me to get into my space and get it done! I love your pink walls. I saw your previous video with your pink walls and painted my bedroom walls a similar color. See, you are an influencer beyond sewing!❤😮. My patterns are a mess! I try to keep up with them, I usually can get my hands on which pattern I want but I have a very hard time culling my patterns and it can be overwhelming.

Ruan I do remember your sewing room make over videos. Especially you cutting table which is stunning. I have to say your draws are ridiculously neat. I think they require some messing up or at least some sneaky snacks in there😂😂😊❤

Yes my cutting table can be a dumpster. I have to work hard to clean it off daily. I love your fabric storage. It looks like part of the decor in the room. I have mine in the closet. Your room is awesome. The table is a treasure!

Pattern storage is the bane of my life. I have tried several systems, but none worked as well as I liked. I have recently culled my patterns, but I still have so many and will keep buying more! I am lucky to have my own swing room, an extension built onto the side of our home and it's a good size, 12'6" x 16', but it's stuffed and I've overflowed into the garage conversion! I have several hobbies besides dressmaking, quilting, wet felting, mixed media collages, machine embroidery, and beading. My storage arrangements are inadequate, but I have no more space to increase it. I have a Horn Hi-Lo cutting table, purchased pre-loved, which is amazing. It's on wheels, but I have too many Really Useful boxes of fabric underneath it to move it, oops. It also tilts so it can be almost flat against the wall, but it's always in use. After watching your tour, I plan to reorganise my drawers and Ikea Kallax unit to better use the space and make what I use most frequently more easily accessible. Thank you :-)

Thanks for the tour Ruan, we’re in the process of turning our spare bedroom into a craft/office/spare room so basically a do everything room, I’m hoping that there will be room for a cutting table. 🤞 💙🧶🌈🍓

My husband made me a cutting table from daughter’s old kitchen table. Right height for cutting and solid board over one end. Some cup hooks and all my quilting rulers and French curves hang there. Mine is also on casters. Very true it’s a dumping space if I’m not careful. Love your room.❤

Love your sewing room Ruan. I’ve got the tiniest box room but it’s all mine and I love it. I’ve just changed my pdf storage system from plastic wallets so I have loads that are nearly new going spare if you’d like them. I’m happy to send them to you if you want them xx

Well done Ruan, wish I was as organised and I have a dedicated sewing room too. Yours makes mine look like a jungle! Trouble is I’d rather be sewing than sorting and tidying. But you have inspired me to do something about it!

A trick for you which might be. Useful.. on your cutting table the side you can fix some command hooks your long rulers can hang there as generally there’s a hole in them for hanging. You have a great space. Mine needs a tidy and I’ll be doing that today. I spill out into other rooms and I need to contain it some how. If I got rid of my sofa which I love I’d have a better organised space. But I spend a lot of time in there 😊

Lovely sewing room Ruan. What a great cutting table - your husband is definitely a keeper 😂. I’ve got hooks on my peg boards over my cutting table for my rulers cos I’m always losing them or knocking them off the table. I also have two bins - one for rubbish (threads, overlocking emptying etc) and one for recyclables. It means I can empty my bins straight into the right wheelie bin and no sorting! 😂 love your needle storage from pattern trace xx

I went back to watch your other two videos and the progress, excellent. You have done a very impressive job of organizing your sewing room. I had an ah ha moment when you shared your interfacing by your cutting table. Mine is I. A plastic box and difficult to get to so I’m going to move it. My cutting table is 40” x 70” with 5 cabinets I bought at Lowe’s (like Home Depot) under it. I used a solid door, padded it and put a huge mat on it. And yes it does become a dumping ground. I live in the central Arizona, USA. Mile high. And we actually had snow tonight. So cold. Love your videos. Thank you

I love how you are so organised with that touch of disorganisation/things need doing - to keep it real. I do like the smaller waffle folders for my patterns - the thick ones with press-studs bulge too much for my liking whereas the ones with the zips [A4 - I see you use A3 size for your projects - as I do] fit the patterns well and I slip them into my A5 project to use. I also use the same folder for notions and then when the garment is made the pattern is ready for filing again. I also like a set square for checking the grain and bias cuts but you might use some quilting tools for that. Your cutting table is amazing - I would love that. You are a lucky duck 😎- thanks for sharing your space,❤

I love the bin for putting in the pattern pieces as you use them. I always just leave them on any available surface for days on end and let them get mixed up with the previous or next project and then it's a pain to put them away because it's a huge overwhelming mess. It's possible that I have a tendency to make life harder than it has to be.😂

Loved your tour and all your storage ideas. I recently moved all my patterns (pdf and other envelopes) into the plastic sleeve/envelopes. It is heaven. I have combined similar patterns into one - such as the boxy roll necks, one-piece bathing suits, bras, favourite woven elastic waist pants, etc. The plastic envelopes are pretty sturdy and should last a long while.

Love your sewing room it's amazing. I have a nice little sewing corner in my dining room which works well. If I want my own sewing room I'll have to get one of the kids to move out 😂 Enjoy the Stitch festival & post a vlog if you can but most importantly have a great time

What a great sewing room, I have a cutting table a lot like yours and I hang my large rulers on the end of my table with command hooks, my table has two Kallax units sandwiched together, so the ends are solid. I have my smaller rulers that would be perfect on a wall shelf, thanks for the idea 😊.

Lovely to see your sewing studio! I can very highly recommend a fluorscent pendant light over your cuttingtable. The type with two long ”tubes” that light up both upwards and downwards. They’re usually used in offices and workshops but you can get hold of them second hand if you keep an eye out. You have to draw a cord from your ceiling light fixture and then it hangs from two hooks. It was a complete game changer when I got one of them on Facebook market! I thought I give you a little warning about having your fabrics in open shelfs….. I have noticed that they get bleach lines along the folds from the daylight…. I have doors on my shelfs but sometimes I let fabrics lie out in the open for a while before I stash them away, and that happend to me, so I’ve learned my lesson. The Kallax have doors that you can add afterwards.

Oh so many ideas in my head now.Thank you Ruan (I think. 😂) Anyway already looked into the Ironing board . Then perhaps I could flip my Kallix unit and make use of it another way? So it goes on ❤

Hi Arian, I have put small hooks and some are small nails on the end of one of my units and I hang all my rulers so they stay straight and don’t get any bends in them. I love your table its wonderful to be able to push back against the wall, Deb 🪡🧵💕

Where did you get your wooden spool holders which fit the peg boards please ? I love the C5 string and washer gusset brown envelopes to store my patterns. They are really hard wearing and they would still fit your existing storage baskets from IKEA too xx

Love your sewing room especially the cutting table I'd love to move my sewing room to the spare bedroom but don't think hubby is keen...but I do have a lovely room which was part of the garage and we had the door fitted from our hallway to get into my sewing room it's lovely having your own space to sew...I have to cut out my patterns on the dinning room table which isn't a problem but Id love a cutting table like yours...❤. Can I ask where you got the sewing machine needle cushion from as I'm always forgetting which needles are which and just stick them in my pincushion and then can't remember what size they were 😮

Hi Ruann! Beautiful room! I have a question about your serger/overlocker, where did you get that beautiful waste catcher? Baby Lock sergers are notorious for not supplying them. I had one made by an Etsy seller that makes things with her 3D printer
