Sewing Simplicity 9325 Dress
Hello! This episode will take you step by step through the making of Simplicity dress pattern s9325. I will show you a better way to make a narrow hem on the circular sleeve, and show you a few other things I modified on the pattern to improve the outcome; This is a longer video, but, some days are like that. Hope you like it. Let me know if you have any questions.
~Marie

This video has been a life saver. I’m part way through sewing this dress together and I’ve found the directions to be vague and the visuals to be so confusing. It’s so much easier when I can see something in a video. Your tips are very helpful, though I admittedly can’t stand thimbles so that made me laugh. You have given me courage to go back to it and finish this dress. Thanks for recording this.

I love your old farm, looks like you have significant acreage for all your animals. Very nice. I loved visiting my grandaddy's farm in Mississippi years ago. I am very old and have been sewing most of those years and I never heard of Meister sewing machine, it has a nice humming sound! Since I saw your video and was unable to find one, smart to hang onto the older machines, they are the work horse of sewing. I watched you video on the machine. Linen is my favorite fabric to sew with and to wear. I love making my pajamas from linen! Looks great on you, lucky to have a tiny waist, know you will enjoy wearing \. I was blessed with a little butt, however a larger waist or in reality--no waist at all. Thank you.

Hi Renee! Oh yes, plenty of room for ther livestock to roam up here, pastures, woods, orchards etc. On the meister, there is actually one on Ebay right now I have been keeping an eye on. It needs a good power cord etc, but looks like it's in nice condition. But I have to ask myself over and over, do I really need another one? Sadly, I don't. But I really hope someone else will☺️

I just got my first serger! I would love to score one for $60. It wasnt the top of the line but it will be a good serger nonetheless. Im super excited to use it! Im a intermediate seamstress still trying to re learn what I learned in sewing in high school back in the 90s. Ive made this same dress as a mock up, now im getting ready to make it for real. One thing I noticed when I had it laid out on the dress form was how low the bodice was, at least too low for my taste. And the inlay seemed awfully wide. I adjusted the bodice some but wasnt entirely pleased with it how it looked. I felt it made my boobs look slouchy ;) Im confident the second time I make it I will make fewer mistakes though. Thanks for the video! I learned a lot of tips and really appreciate your explanation of everything.

I would not have been able to sew this dress without this video! Mine was waaaay to big and I had to alter it al ton (must have missmeasured myself or something) I had to take in about 4cm on the side an back seams and adjust the front. This was my very first clothes sewing project! One thing I had a little difficulty was to see if I had to pin right or wrong sides. Maybe you could just say that quickly when something needs to be pinned together? I know it’s usually right sides but sometimes I wasn‘t sure especially with the sleeves :)

Hi. I jusssst finished making this dress. Oh and it is my first pattern that I have attempted ever. I wanta say that the video was very helpful, thank you. I have seen many from you on other patterns from Butterick, etc. I will watch them too. Very educational. I must say that I learnt a lot about sewing clothes from my first experience. I made 1 big mistake though, I should have chosen a much lighter fabric. Since it was my first I wanted to choose some inexpensive fabric and bought something for 4.44 a yrd at walmart. The dress ended up being heavy in the end. I think light-weight linen or georgette would be ideal for this dress. And, just my experience with this S9325 pattern. 1. I chose it as it was labelled as easy, but at the end I did not like the dress. 2. I used the provided guide to identify the proper measurements, but the dress turned out waaaayyy too big. The shoulder is literally falling off. And I don't like all the extra fabric balooning up in the bust area. 3. I ended making style B too, and I did not like the bell sleeves. I need to alter the dress now. Would you have any advice on how to go about lifting up the shoulders, so that the neck stays put? Would I have to remove all the sleeves and neck and shoulder and then cut the excess? I am just not sure how. And I am also planning on changing the sleeves to make it smaller. Any ideas there?
@mybucoliclife
@mybucoliclife 2 года назад
Good morning! So glad you have tried out this pattern. You have learned about the built in easing that pattern companies often add. So first of all, when choosing which size to make, look at the actual finished dimensions of the bust, waist, etc. These number should be printed on the tissue paper pieces somewhere. They should help you decide if you need to go up or down a size. So on this dress, to take out some extra width, I would turn it inside out and put it on in front of a mirror. Pin in the side seams on each side until it fits better, but not too tight because you still have to pull the whole thing over your head. Carefully take it off and sew new side seams where the pins are. For the loose shoulders, the easiest fix I think, would be to open up the facing from where is is sewn to the seam allowances at the sleeve and take a strip of elastic, about 1/4" wide or so and sew it to the facing near the stitching line, stretching it a little as you sew. then tack the facing back to the dress. This should give the shoulders extra grab and hopefully stay up, but not show from the outside. Finally, the full sleeves, easiest is to put elastic in a casing at the bottom or gather them into a band. I hope this helps!
@aparnavasanth8372
@aparnavasanth8372 2 года назад
@@mybucoliclife It totally helps. I like the sleeve advice of adding an elastic. I did now know about comparing with actual finished dimensions. Thank you. I learn everyday. I am sure I am gonna make a fabulous dress soon. Thank you for the advice. Cheers

Hi Bonnie, so here's the thing... TMI time, the bra I had on when I was on the porch was more like a wide strapped sports bra, which is why it peaked. But by the time I realized it, I was filming, such is life. I have worn ther dress several times since then with a regular bra and no issues. Thanks for watching!! 😊

Beautiful work--thank you! LOVE that finger-behind-the-presser-foot-slight-pucker trick! I'm curious: where did you learn that?
@mybucoliclife
@mybucoliclife 2 года назад
I learned it in an old bishop method sewing book! Love those old tricks.

Hi, Nice video it is very rare to find someone on you tube using such old machine. By the way, what kind of machine is that one?, never saw it before, very pretty stitching; Nice and even. Beautiful dress too. Now I want one too.

Thank you. It's actually a pretty rare machine, my grandfather bought it for my grandmother just after WWII. It's a German machine, Meisterwerk. I think they were sold to husqvarna soon after this machine was made, from what I can tell.

No idea why but my front skirt barely gathered. Definitely used the correct sizing but yours looks so much nicer!

@mybucoliclife 2 года назад
I don't think I have a lot of gathering either. Did it turn out alright otherwise? Did you gather just in the parts they marked?
@becktimms
@becktimms 2 года назад
@@mybucoliclife it's OK there's a smidge of gather but I think when I make it again I'm going to make the front panels half an inch to an inch wider to give more gather as yours looks so much better! P.S. thank you for this video, as someone newish to sewing I still get stuck and stumble in some patterns so videos as clear as yours are a god send 😊

I just found your channel! Yay!! I am a very beginner sewist, bought my first ever sewing machine in May of this year and I'm really excited about creating my own wardrobe, I've been searching online for any tutorials/sew alongs for the patterns that I currently own and I'm not having much luck. Any chance you may have Simplicity's It's So Easy #1643, and plan on doing a video? It's one of the patterns I am really eager to try, but I get hung up on the limited instructions.

Hi Paula! Im glad my videos are helpful! I don't have that pattern you mentioned but will keep my eyes open. I hope you enjoy learning the sewing process. One small step at a time 😁

Do you dryer dry your linen? So many sources say to dry clean.

I run it through the regular washing machine wash and tumble dryer dry. But do this before you cut it out. :)

As a beginner, it would have been nice to see you cut out the pattern. Also, what is a stay stitch? Where did you get the notch leather tool? Thank you!

Hello! I'll try to remember to put in some cutting out footage next time. Stay stitching is just a line of straight stitching that you usually put on the edge of a piece that is not on the straight of the fabric, like at a diagonal or curve, because these places tend to stretch out while you handle them, or if they have any pressure on them. You don't see these stitches in the final finished garment, but they are part of the inner structure to hold everything where it should be. And I bought my hole punch on amazon. Thanks for watching :)

I have this pattern and I’m excited to try it. I’m gonna make is shorter so I can wear it with leggings. Do you think scuba fabric would work?
@mybucoliclife

Honestly I don't think I have used scuba fabric yet. Give it a try and let me know!

Honestly I’d rather have your sewing machine…. They don’t make them that well anymore! My machine has a few bells and whistles but was cheap and my Serger was cheap as well! I’m hoping they outlive me! Don’t want to have to spend $$$ replacing again!!! I am keeping my eyes open for a bargain on an old machine for a backup 😊
