Measuring how long a CosTuber's project takes by how fast chickens grow is my favourite way of measuring time. Amazing stays! You are tempting me into the 18th Century, damn you!

My thoughts regarding chicken names: I love Wan Shi Tong, I vote you keep that name! After your mention of Hobbit-y names, I think Frodo for the Rhode Island Red; the color just reminds me of him. In the spirit (heh, accidental pun) of Avatar references, the Sapphire Gem/s could be Sapphire Fire, and maybe Wang Fire, if the second one gets to stay! If you like Star Wars, I think Amidala would be a great name for the Cinnamon Queen. Whatever you end up naming them, I hope we get to hear about it! Seeing your chickens made me smile today. We've had chickens for most of my life, and I can't help but have a soft spot for 'em, especially the babies.

With the plastic boning, you can get a curve on them by using your iron at a lowish temp, (with a barrier of baking parchment between the plastic and the iron, of course) to heat the plastic while slowly curving the flat into the desired curve. This occurred to me because of using the heating technique on plastics for other plastic form manipulations ( toys, figurines, putting an angle on old tooth brushes to use as tools, etc). If you are worried about handling the plastic while it may be hot, wear an oven mitt. ;)

One note: “selvedge” is not the same as “seam allowance”. The selvedge is the edge of the woven fabric, and often cut off because it is woven differently than the rest of the fabric.

"I don't feel like mowing today, so here we go" is such a mood :) Maybe Sybil for one of the reddish chicks? Pebble might be cute for one of the grey ones, but would depend on personality. Also, I've always thought the name Eliza suited a chicken, but I haven't actually used that one myself yet :)

This video made me realize why my 18th century pattern mock-up had so many problems. I have a long torso, but it wasn't until i saw this that I realized the space between my ribs and hip bone is actually quite small. I'm definitely using the arch method and this video for reference if I try again.

Wow, those turned out really nice! I've never made or worn 18th century stays, but those make me want to give them a try. Especially since you so generously shared the details about pattern drafting. That aspect has always completely stumped me, unlike with 19th century corsets, which I managed to successfully tackle even 'way back when', before there were internet communities for such things. But stays were always a complete mystery to me.

I've stated to make my first pair of stays! Your patterning video has been invaluable as your method just intuitively makes sense. I have finished the pattern and I am waiting for boning to arrive in the mail so I can start making my first mockup. I also like the idea of tab-less stays as to me it merges the best parts of corsets and stays into one garment; so it's definitely a future project goal. Thanks for sharing!!!

I am always blown away by your creativity with pattern experimentation! I had been wondering what stays like these (18th century but without tabs) would look like in real life because in the webcomic I'm creating, it is set in a fantasy world where they have something similar to this but with front lacing, optional straps, and more coverage over the hips like a Victorian corset. As someone who hasn't sewn much, I wasn't sure if it would work in real life, but clearly you've made something similar to what I had in mind and it's functional!

I love that you're addressing the issues to figure out with curved seams/boning channels (bones not laying flat and clipping) because it's one thing I've been wondering about while starting to pattern my own future pair of stays and not seen addressed in a lot of places (then again I still have time to research that more in depth).

I always learn from your videos, and I loved the bonus chicky footage! My kitty girl wasn't too interested in the sewing project parts tho... just the chickens. No, she wouldn't hurt them irl, she'd run away and hide. "They're bigger than my head! Why are they bigger?? ..... maybe they're friends... brother will like that." Seriously, her brother would love little buddies!

It's really nice to see that you use so much seam allowance for mockups and stuff, I mean when you think about it, it's the most logical way to allow for the most adjustment within a single mockup, hopefully reducing the number of mock-ups from like 4 to 2. It just feels like ''extra seam allowance'' is always added to 'beginner' patterns, making it seem as though wide seam allowances are for amateurs. I feel encouraged to add massive seam allowances to all of my mock-ups now. The only problem is I now definitely can't get away with not marking my seams on the fabric, and may even have to threadmark all of them so they're visible from both sides. 😅 Thank you again for another wonderful video on exactly the topic relevant to my current projects! (Well, I am not doing tabless stays, just stays, but the mockuping and more arch patterning was still very helpful) Ps, I am the one who commented on Instagram about this basically being recreating an Edwardian straight front corset with an 18th century stay pattern as the base, thank you for liking it! Ds. ☺️

My mom had a Rhode Island Red that thought she was a rooster. We just called her "Red" because she was so vibrant. We had 4 lovely ladies, but 2 of them had been attacked by other critters. They ended up in a coop that was built like a fortress, but we had to give them to our cousin when it cost too much to keep them safe. We named the other three, but Red had the most personality and her name stuck with me. She defended and bullied the other three, and I was sad to see her go. One of yours looks like an eagle or hawk, so why not name her after "Lady Hawk". Its a movie that I watched waaaay to much as a young teen, but it was amazing. I might have memorized the lines... Can't remember them now though.

What a perfect mix of corset and stays. A corstay, perhaps? As for the chickens, once they are fully grown, I always tend to think of them as old ladies- biddies, even. And so I like old lady names. Like Iris, Wynnie, Glenda, Gladys, Agatha, Morag (which always seems like an old lady name to me), Rhoda (which is a very predictable name for a Rhode Island Red, so I’d actually use the name for a different type of chicken, because I’m contrary that way).
