Funny how the men who got these girls in “trouble” were allowed to continue their carefree lives, no blame at all. Disgusting

Yes the blame is all on the nuns whose labor was also free. So they are jailers of other women in a patriarchal system.

@@beautifulspirit7420 Oh get fucked!!, a 'patriarchal system' ?!!! That utter bollocks has well been debunked and dismissed as yet more feminist man hating rubbish. Those "poor nuns" who you sympathise with, were Demons who abused, molested and tortured those women for no reason at all. You claim the nuns didnt get paid like thats some revelation.... it may be news to you to learn that they had clearly CHOSEN to becone nuns and give their life to the Catholic Church and there isnt a wage for that, you moron. They made up for the benefit of money by having a plethora of young girls to abuse and torture and im sure that was more beneficial to those psychopaths than any pay packet. No man or "patriarchal system" dictated they treat those women that way, how dare you even attempt to excuse those slags for their abhorrent behaviour. It really is telling what kind of a person you must be, that you can actually even try to lessen the evil of those nuns with some made-up, nonsensical feminist propaganda!!!

The parents deserve the harshest blame for completely abandoning responsibility of their children, badly behaved or otherwise, even though all they had to do was simply come and collect them, which it seems most parents or even extended family rarely did. Remember it was these girls' families that discarded their own daughters.
@rnw2739

Exactly. How you can totally abandon and condemn your own flesh and blood over fear of what some nosey cunt neighbour might think, certainly makes the Irish stereotype of whimsical, happy people a total falsehood!

Yes. Everyone was complicit but its convenient to only blame the nuns whose labor was also unpaid. So all these women are providing free labor and hiding social problems such as poverty and bad education that benefit the State.

I had nuns as teachers when I was young.I cannot remember even one being kind and they seemed so unhappy.It was like they punished other people for a choice they made.They wanted to give their lives to God but lived lives that didn't reflect their beliefs.Only my experience.

Don't know. I was raised Christian and am not a Christian, but I don't hate those who are. Saying that Christianity and Catholicism is to blame for such atrocities is a cop out. I've met a lot of Christians and Catholics who would find this disgusting. Religion is not the only factor it's just an aspect of culture. Cultural practices are both culturally, temporally and spatially diverse and complex. These are examples of power struggles and judgement.

This treatment was definitely terrible and it was the Protestants in Dublin and Northern Ireland that built the first laundries for "fallen women". Unfortunately their model was then copied by the Catholics. The whole state was complicit however, as it benefited from the women's free labor and hiding away issues that it didn't have to deal with as a result of poverty and lack of education. Everyone participated in this system.
@ontnurse2
@ontnurse2 12 лет назад
Just because they were so called trouble makers does not give anyone the right even nuns to treat the girls that way.This has scarred these women for life.What they called trouble makers were young girls that flirted with boys and trivial things like that.

No wonder so many Priests worked those places. Sheiks never had such an endless stream for their free harems~! As a teen-ager, I was hit on by a priest. When I rejected his advances he had my car towed in a snow storm. Recent expose`s come as no surprise to me~! My grand father called himself a bible student minister. He abandoned my grandmother with five children for some of his students. Years later he saw me playing solitaire and started yelling "TOOLS OF THE DEVIL~! TOOLS OF THE DEVIL~!" Another case of do as I say Not as I do. I am thankfully Atheist~! When I do something immoral it's because I have found a consenting adult ready and willing. Never needing or asking for forgiveness~!

This is not about being Catholic! I'm not a Christian, but to those attacking a religion based on this video need to understand a few things 1) Men and women, Mothers and Fathers put their kids in these places 2) the government of Ireland knew about this. 3) Could it be that this horrible disgusting behaviour is a result of an ignorant society and misogyny. Notice how WOMEN were punished for sex outside marriage and not men.

Oh leave off, you aren't seriously trying to pretend the Catholic Church is not the vile cult it is?!!! Paedophile priests are commonplace, sadistic nuns, responsible for so many wars throughout history and your precious Catholic Church harboured and hid the Nazis who went on the run, trying to evade capture after World War II !! You cannot refute a single thing so you are really wasting your time as nearly everyone is wise to the hideous practices of the Catholic sect.
@vsgunning
@vsgunning Год назад
whilst that is true to a degree and the system was horrible these horrific practices were only done in the name of the church or religion. The atrocities done to women and children in the name of God are disgraceful and awful. The horrific crimes of sexual nature committed by religious clergy further prove the point. Until this day around the world similar horrific abuse and crime are done in the name of God and religion. Religion has a lot to answer for.

I was raised in the Church of England. I remember we attended church every Sunday at 10.00am. Sunday School at 11.00am. Evensong at 5.00pm. The vicar was a superb man, his wife taught Sunday school and his two sons were church assistants. I had a very happy church experience. Shocks me to the core to see a different life for catholics.

I wouldn't be too simplistic. Ireland was extremely poor due to centuries of suppression and colonization from England. Catholics lost their civil rights for hundreds of years in Ireland and the UK until Catholic emancipation. There is a lot of self-righteousness from Brits and Protestants who were directly responsible for so much misery in Ireland.

Plenty of nuns are wonderful women. Unfortunately at this time in history Ireland was extremely poor after centuries of colonization by England. Women would obviously prefer the life of a nun with a bed and food as well as the high status accorded to them in their society to the risk of being a "fallen woman". The whole society was complicit in hiding away social problems caused by poverty and lack of education. The men always got off Scott free and never were punished for their abuse and rape of women. The nuns labor was also free, so women were used to control other women. Of course the behavior of the nuns was wrong and criminal but they were encouraged and supported by the entire society.
