Quality! Bought myself a cheap set up not long ago for a change from playing the Bass. Been using your video's to help me learn a few songs and this one has just helped me learn this Pistols classic. Thanks for putting them on and keep them coming....Cheers!!
Alex Yoloswagger I use the EQ function in Cool Edit Pro but any good audio software will do. Just play around with the 1 to 5 kHz range, pulling some sliders down. which ones is related to how the original guitars were recorded so it's always a matter of trial and error.
Bearista Bear Thanks Rand. Do you think that changing only the grille would make a big difference? IMO, the Beta can be a bit "boomy" and mic placement is very critical. Basically I wanted a SM57 but they were sold out...
Going to a Beta 58A grill would change the sound only very slightly. Your mouth would not get as close to the mic element because the ball grille is bigger, so that could mean a slight reduction in proximity effect. Also, I haven't seen inside a 57A and 58A grill to see if the windscreen foam is any thicker in one or the other. I theorize that maybe the 58A has thicker foam since plosives most be controlled more. The SM57 and SM58 have a couple db lower output, so one should have a quieter preamp to make it work better.
Bearista Bear I have been told that the Beta57A was marketed as a specific instrument mic, hence the flat grille so that you could put it closer and more even against a speaker cabinet.
That's correct, it's a instrument mike. If you remove the 57A's grill and attach a 58A grill (which is bigger), it's now a 58A mike. In other words, the body is the same for both mikes.
