Jeffrey Gurian of Comedy Matters TV talks remotely with two of the hottest young comics on the LA comedy scene today who are killing it with their outdoor shows, namely Matt Rife and Paul Elia.
Matt Rife is known as having been the youngest performer ever at 16 years old to have appeared on Nick Cannon's Wild 'N Out show on MTV, and created quite a stir when he "gently caressed" Zendaya's face, and recently stood out on the NBC show hosted by Amanda Seales called "Bring The Funny," with judge Chrissie Teigen!
His creative partner Paul Elia gave up Law school to do comedy. Originally from Detroit with a Chaldean/Assyrian background, so common in comedy circles, (JK) he tells hilarious stories of talking his way into opening a 2500 person audience show by convincing the unsuspecting host that he had performed stand-up before, and with 45 of his Middle Eastern family in the audience, having an uncle tell him his best line was "This is not working!"
They hooked up 7 years ago after meeting on the comedy scene, and due to the pandemic many comics have not been on stage for six months, and have no way to make money.
Matt and Paul recently decided to help get comics back to work and bring some positivity to the pandemic by hosting outdoor shows which cost them almost as much to put on as they make. They do it for the love of comedy!
