David Kettlewell reviews the new Seydel Symphony 48 MAGNETIC BUTTON 12 hole chromatic harmonica.
Absolutely airtight from factory, superb engineering and precise buildout. (Flagship harp for Seydel.)
Superb feel in the hand, stainless reeds, german silver plated solid brass mouthpiece, rounded mouthpiece, aluminum comb, new MAGNETIC button (replacing spring) new easy to remove slide design (uses two screws at bottom of comb) improved bumper design, cast aluminum covers (open bell shape at back) german silver reedplates. Great ergonomics in the hand in play and tone, and projection.
And...full worldwide online parts availability, 2 year warranty, and great culture at the Seydel company...last remaining German manufacturer of chromatic harmonicas.
Bravo Seydel!
(Two years ago, Seydel won "Best Harmonica Manufacturer" award from Mr. Kettlewell's LOVE OF CHROMATIC HARMONICA Facebook page.)
This harp fitted with the Kettlewell Frictionless Mouthpiece SLIDER, providing friction free movement to new note hole positions, and no need for saliva to lubricate lips to mouthpiece (harp stays cleaner) and relaxed embouchure for player. For more information on the Slider, send a personal email to David Kettlewell using the Contact link at his website, MASTERSOFHARMONICA.COM
NOTE that Mr. Kettlewell is NOT sponsored by Seydel, nor is he an endorsed player for them. He calls 'em as he sees 'em, to help you get a feel for harps you may not have played before. This is excellent!! I have a Hohner CX 12 and it's probably the best harmonica in my collection!! I'd like to try a Seydel Symphony. Stevie Wonder played one in a recent performance and I loved the tone of it. I'm assuming it's quite expensive but very much worth it!! Thank you for this review!!

@Masters Of Harmonica I believe this is how the magnetic slider works on this harmonica: The slider has the inner end with a magnetic material that produces a force produced by ions that are of like charge to the polar position of the magnet it makes contact with. When you push the slider in, the alternate sharps and flats are played when you blow or draw but the magnet repels the slider back into position when you release it.

Are these actually better than the Suzuki Sirius/Maret? Looking so damn clean and easy to service, just awesome

Thanks for this, definitely helped me in deciding to buy. Only complaint is that the slide itself feels REALLY slow/heavy when pressing in and releasing, is this something that just needs warming up...getting a lot of resistance.

No problem. It just needs a washing. Unscrew it, put it under running water, dry it (carefully) and put it back the body of the harp.

Can I get a regular 12-hole from C4-D7? Instead of G3-G6?

It's almost impossible to make a definite conclusion on harmonica based on your reviews Whatever you play sounds incredible. $5 harmonica would still perform like a professional instrument in your hands.

It’s distracting to see the slide retention screw with a left-hand thread...
