I heard about Gilbert Gottfried through Cyberchase, as he voiced Digit. That really made Digit iconic. He did a wonderful job, and he'll truly be missed.
Someone make a kickstarter for Gilbert Gottfried smoke detectors that just angrily cough and yell *ITS DISGUSTING* instead of beeping. I need that right now.
Worse if you have multiple detectors, the chirp isn't long enough to pinpoint and you end up going thru the whole damn house trying to figure out which one it is.
I remember seeing these commercials when I was a kid talk about nostalgia. A great man who gave us plenty of amazingly memorable characters throughout our childhood and adulthood. RIP Gilbert Gottfried you will be missed.
I don’t know what’s more horrifying: being taken back to the 90s when a fire safety jingle is catchy, or that a puppet with Gilbert Gottfried’s likeness is significantly distorted while emitting a soul piercing sound.
I saw this commercial more times than I can even count during Saturday morning and weekday afternoon cartoons. I guess I can thank the algorithm for another piece of nostalgia. Rip Gilbert Gottfried
As creepy and batshit weird this is. I’m pretty sure most will be coming back to this now that Gilbert Gottfried has recently passed away. RIP. Your unique voice may have been really grating to most but even you were able to create something hilarious even in a bad movie.
the other way around for me....for years i had this image in my head but couldnt put a finger on what show it was... honestly i thought it was Pee-Wee Herman....totally forgot about this and the old Smokey The Bear commercials
I loved this fire safety video as a kid. The smoke detector voiced by Gilbert always made me go "ooo here he comes!" I will miss you Gilbert. We will all miss you.
oh shit how come nobody told me he died i thought he was still alive since i just watched his performance as God on Smiling Friends i deadass thought this comment was a “haha rip but he’s not actually dead” joke and i actually laughed before looking it up, tragic shit
Saw this all the time as a kid, had it on VHS, and upon watching it again, realized we needed to change the batteries in our smoke detectors. Thank you, Gilbert Gottfried and others from 1996.
I know him (not personally) from voicing this character call, "Digit" from my childhood show, Cyberchase. Hearing his voice made me think of that Robot Bird. Rest In Peace Double G. 🙏
I'm glad this project is getting some recognition it deserve. I'm sure many of us saw this as a VHS tape back in the 90s and early 2000s in elementary school. Rest in peace Gilbert Gottfried
My dad is a firefighter who brought this video into my classes when I was young. Between kindergarten to like, 4th grade, I don't remember. Sad to see him go.
I remember this PSA from when I was a kid. Gilbert Gottfried was terrific as Seymour Smoke Detector. He was also memorable as the voice of Iago in Aladdin. R.I.P Gilbert...you will forever be remembered. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Some weeks ago, I watched this for the first time with my family and laughed my head off... Few days later, one of my favorite voice actors passes away.😞
"I make this noise to warn you: *ungodly scream"* That should be a video response anytime someone on a message board posts something nasty to warn other commenters from hitting play.
Well that "ungodly scream" was the real sound smoke alarms made in the 70's and early 80's used ! There is a chance of coming across a video of a real one sounding like that if you search for "old smoke alarm" or "vintage smoke alarm". Or for an even worse sound, "old Firex smoke alarm"
@@imaginox9 What model/make of the old/vintage smoke detector is Seymour Smoke Detector based on? I enjoyed seeing seeing this commercial when I was a kid especially the noise, but I’m still scared of the fire alarm in real life probably because of my autism.
@@videoguy100 Judging by its shape and the vents I'd say some old BRK smoke alarm from the 70's. As for the sound, Seymour Smoke sounds like basically like any smoke alarm from the 70's/early 80's with the old high pitched horn, a good example is the First Alert SA76RS. There was also a (very) low pitched horn on old hardwired smoke alarms (a good example being the old Firex one, forgot the model)
Rest in piece, Gil. Lion King was my first exposure to you as a kid and man you delivered a great intro to you work…you will be missed by us all. Rest well, old friend. ❤️
Gilbert gottfried wasn’t in Lion King. You’re probably mistaking Iago from Aladdin, which he did play, for Zazu from Lion king which was played by Rowan Atkinson aka Mr Bean
I watched this in grade school and got nightmares from it, finding it years later that gilbert gottfried voiced it leaves me at peace finally. RIP gilbert gottfried
These ads went on for years and years, there were other versions than this. I remember seeing it on NBC at least once every Saturday for about a decade and remember the full song too...."Be Cool About Fire Safety, if you don't wanna get burned, Be Cool About Fire Safety, you gotta lot to learn!"
Fun fact: that subtle bass boosted sound effect when Gilbert Gottfried talks isn’t a byproduct of the mic or audio quality. That’s just how his voice is in real life.
