Seymour Duncan Powerstage 170 with the Revv amps G4 pedal and the Maxon Od808 Overdrive. as always with the Solar Guitars S1.6 PBM and a new Bugera 2x12TS Speaker Cabinet.
Dude I love your video format, right amount of talk to give opinions, right amount of playing (and very tasty too), and good showcasing of the different tones!
Hey Abel Hernandez loving that videos. I glad the bugera has worked out if your looking for anything in the future the harley benton 2x12 cab is loaded with celestian v30s for 200 bucks. Ive hears good thing
I got the stereo powerstage, but got "buyer's remorse" mid shipping, and sent it back. I kinda regret it, but I'm not playing with anyone currently so a live rig right now is unpractical. Great demo. I dig you channel. You got a new sub. Cheers.
Seymour duncan makes the prettiest pedals in the business...I just bought the 805 because it was the classiest tube screamer type pedal I have ever seen lol....that power stage is gorgeous! Your tone is crushing as well bro 🤘😉
Groovin man! The Orange Pedal Baby is nice but it's bigger like the other Seymour Duncan 170 that's not pedal sized. For my smaller rig I'm using a PRS MT15 Mark Tremonti head on a Mojotone Imperial 2x12 vert slant cab with v30's & my Helix LT in the effects loop using the 4 cable method. Absolutely KILLER man!! Really dig your channel & had to hit the sub button!! Keep doing the good stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤘😁🤘
You have obviously been playing guitar way before you started this channel but I've been watching all of your videos as they come out and yep! Welcome to the collecting gear disease. You started off with a computer, camera, and guitar...now look LMAO. But hey...gotta grow your channel. Love the reviews and filming, keep it up.
I just got the Mooer preamp live And the baby bomb 30 as a backup rig for live just in case my triple rectifier fails for any reason I have a dialed in With their tone capture feature the nice part about the pre amp live is the effects loop And I have a 7 band micro EQ pedal as my push for solos
Great video, Abel! I love my Powerstage 170. I use it with my Fractal AX8, but I've been meaning to check out these Revv pedals for a while. I'd like to build a smaller live B rig with just a Powerstage and something like the Revv G3 or G4 and a couple of other pedals.
great review! i am looking for a small, pedal sized amp that i can run my pedals into, and then directly into a cab. this review made me make my decision!
I think this vid just convinced me that Powerstage + 2x12 is the way to go. Even if I was running a direct signal with a cab sim to FOH / In-Ears, I'd miss having a real cab behind me. Plus for smaller gigs or DIY shows where the PA isn't great you can still keep up with the rest of the band.
Great content for "real life real guitar player" situations. You have got to check out the Behringer VT999 Vintage Tube Monster if you're looking to make the Powerstage a permanent part of your rig. Not only is it the cheapest real tube OD on the market, but it crushes as a color boost/preamp.
Thanks so much this is almost exactly how I want to use a revv pedal. But with a precision drive in stead of the Maxon. Why did you get the g4 instead of the g3? What was the deciding factor? Idk which one I want for sure but I might choose the g3.
do you have the original speakers in the bugera ??i have the same cab but i know nothing about it do you know if the speakers were modeled after a certain celestion speaker or if they even come close quality wise???would celestions even fit in there?
Serious question, how would you compare this rig (Pedal distortion based) to an amp distortion based rig? I use a peavey 5150 and would like to simplify my rig without compromising the tone.
Joel, being honest with you taking a class-D power amp and pairing it with a pedal isn't going to sound the same as playing a 5150 tube amp (which I love, by the way). That being said, if you were to pair up something like the Duncan Powerstage 170 with a pre-amp/gain stage pedal such as the MXR EVH 5150 pedal, you can honestly get a remarkably good and thick tone out of that set-up. I've used the 170 with the 5150 pedal before and got an incredible tone out of it that was more than sufficient for gigging. But it's not really a thing where I'd "trade my tube amp in" for it, more of a situation where it works great as a substitute in case I don't want to gig with or travel with my tube amp, or if space and weight are a concern for gigging purposes. Something like the PS 170 with a proper gain-stage pedal like the EVH 5150, or a Duncan Palladium, etc., works as a great substitute. I am impressed with how this Revv pedal sounds going into it as well, I must say. Cheers.
I’m currently going to try replacing my 6505 with a friedman IR-X and this power stage. It might not sound as good. But its about 50lbs less I gotta lug up and down stairs
So I believe Abel says it early on in the video, but just to clarify: you can run the Duncan Powerstage 170 with the distortion/OD pedals off and get a decent clean tone live? For some reason I thought you just ran pedals or modelers into it but that it wouldn't sound good by itself. I don't use totally clean sounds all that often but once in awhile I have to.
With the EQ on it your dry guitar signal doesn’t sound bad at all. So yes if you wanted to you could run the clean sound live. I’m sure people would recommend a clean preamp though.
The Powerstage 170 sounds good just running a guitar straight into it for a clean tone. I think it sounds better at doing straight clean stuff than other similar clean poweramps. The 3-band EQ does help in dialing in a good dry tone. It's definitely a great choice for having a small live rig if you pair it with a couple of pedals.
I wouldn’t do that. The input of a poweramp isn’t loadbearing. Best case scenario the micro tube head blows up, worst case scenario both the head and the powerstage blow up
How do you think this compares to to a normal Mesa 4x12 and Peavey 6505 head setup? Love the way my setup is at the moment (and nothing beats a tube head and oversized cab IMO) but if i want to have my same devastating tone in a live setting while also being able to cut through a mix, will this do the job??? Mainly attracted to this because it can fit in my small toyota haha
Abel... frickin cool man! (and BEAUTIFUL Solara) Im gonna subscribe to this page! Check mine out and lemme know what ya think. I just went live and dig all these other guys like yourself sharin Gear knowledge too
Brother... You play great, and are very professional in your video, but for the love of god put some more mids in the tone!!! Sounds REEAALLY hollow!! Otherwise, great stuff man! well done!
Sadly this pedals not great at isolating the individual pick attacks on the 16th notes. I mean it could be poor hand position on your part, but I’m guessing it’s just the pedal. No headroom to let the individual notes shine. Sounds compressed as fuck. I wouldn’t recommend this set up for live gigging at all.
