SF Castro District merchants protest in frustration of unhoused encampment 

So the judge who blocked the city homeless sweep order did not live in the city and she lives in a place where homeless is illegal... What a twist!

The law has to change. One person’s right shouldn’t trample everyone else’s.

They aren't unhoused. They are homeless, They need to be forced to either work or vacate the city. And yes - I HAVE BEEN HOMELESS.

As environmentally sensitive as San Francisco used to be it's a shame to see the judge allowing raw sewage to be dumped into the street drains designed for rain water along with wrappings and spoiled food, not to mention needles and other drug paraphernalia. It's not a "Constitutional right" to pollute the environment.

Blocking sidewalks that a wheelchair can't pass is a violation of the ADA Act. Lawsuits need to be started against any city that violates the law.

The homeless industrial complex is a bottomless pit. People are making very good salaries working within those various organizations that make up a Complex. Even former San Francisco mayor, Willie Brown said the ‘homeless’ aka vagrant problem is designed to never be fixed. As long as the same like-minded politicians are in charge the problem will only continue to get worse.

He lives on public property causing businesses lose money ,causing public health and safety danger problems ,taxpayers people can’t walk on sidewalks. He declined to go to shelter many times . Judge doesn’t order to move him from street instead decided to pay him 9000$ (which is taxpayers money ) UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! . San Francisco deserve better!!!! Clean street Better Leadership !!!

Some of these people are choosing to live on the street, and these same people are scammers, live on the street, suing merchants and governments if their possessions are “loss”

The government is to blame. The people must rise up and demand it stops.

The merchants should sue the judge and the homeless advocates for the loss revenue.

Nobody asks how these Castro District merchants voted.

Vote them out and get the new council members in who can correct the issue.

Each and everyone of the Homeless advocates should allow at least 5-10 homeless to live in their property or outside of it.

I don’t travel to SF no more because of drugs , crime and overall cost to do things in SF is too pricy for the headache. Sad I lived in Daly City and missed the location for sure. Miss it but I can do without

I volunteered at an elementary school in the Castro and accompnied kindergartners from the school to the public library. Along the way we passed many homeless passed out on the sidewalks. The kids asked what they were doing. In the library, itself, there was a homeless man loitering in the restroom and a librarian had to accompney a kid into the restroom for his safety. It's very sad that San Francisco citizens have to tolerate this.

Do what the Castro merchant association stated, don’t pay taxes as a collective group.

stop characterizing it as a homeless encampment, there are avenues and help for homeless. THESE are street criminals living on Your sidewalk. NO ONE In their right mind would rent to these criminals. NO bills, means, more for drugs. This will not end well. When people are scared they do dangerous things.

Wait FULLY GROWN ADULTS are expecting SOMEONE ELSE to provide them with a place to live??!! On top of that when help is offered IT'S BEING REFUSED! A person should have ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to do that! You don't have the right to camp in front of someone's business, to hinder someone from making a living. To relieve yourself on the sidewalk, to make a bed on the sidewalk where people have to walk and get to work! ALL OF THAT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL and THEY SHOULD BE ARRESTED! You do that and there's a place they can put you it's called JAIL!

How do the ‘unhoused’ people afford a lawyer? Put that effort into getting a job. I’m sure a lot of businesses would rather see them as possible employees instead.

The store owners all need to pay all the homeless people to move their encampment over to the property of city officials-either in front of government buildings or officials’ residences.

Merchants still attempting to run a business in SFO are getting what they should have expected. Should have closed up shop and left years ago; good news they still can. At some point you have to come to the realization that things are getting worse, will continue to get worse, and must get much worse before something effective will be done by local government...by then, if it happens it's likely too late. Leave. Now.

So why is it that an east bay city can enact laws to make encampments illegal while SF practically paid this guy ($9,000) to continue to live on the streets.

There's no such thing as affordable housing if the only amount you're willing to pay is $0.00 per month. And yeah, the city of Albany could NEVER . . .

Look at what these "unhoused" are doing to our environment. Garbage, drugs and waste going into our water supply. We continue to support bad behavior and are shocked when tax paying citizens are sick of it.

If they are offered place to stay, and they prefer to stay in street. Then they have to been removed. Period. They are basically a grown up sprat who needs to be enforced.

Unhoused? what is Uhoused? Keep changing the problem with different name will not make the problem go away. Facing it and resolving the root of the problems will, such as simply enforce the law, more police, and more rehab facility, etc.

What if the city just donates the sidewalks to the businesses and the business can put signs on no loitering, no trespassing, no encampments on now business owned sidewalks? The business can advertise on the side walks, put up fences with gates and entry, doors, or whatever. It can eliminate these tents to pile up at their front door. A business pays a lot of taxes and should be respected. this helps get rid of the people living on the streets and make them go into affordable housing? Those people say they have rights yet they do not pay taxes, work, clean nothing but always destroying property, devalue Realestate to nothing and devour cities into ghost towns. Yet the business pays taxes and contributes to the tax base not the homeless getting free everything on the streets. Of businesses close down then they might loose a lot of free services. The business taxes is the biggest contributor in Federal and State level taxes. The business owners should have way more rights in this country!

I feel bad for the people who are living in the encampments, but I think enough is enough. Especially for someone who has turned down assistance. I understand and agree more affordable housing is needed, but I also think no matter how affordable it would get, that Toro just wants free housing and would rather live on the streets than have to follow any given rules.

If the storeowners want change, stop requesting the city to do something and put down the useless signs. What would work is taking the city to court for creating a public nuisance. I would be in court every week until they did something. That homeless guy knows how the system works.

Time and time again, residents of affluent neighborhoods vote against affordable housing to preserve the legacy of said neighborhood. Looks like the people who voted to keep San Francisco the same have unintentionally created a monster.

San Francisco's downtown area is almost 25% recovered after covid. So, last place in the nation. Here in Portland we're about to hit 30% recovered! Most places are largely recovered but the West Coast just can't seem to shake some of the problems it has created the last several years. Including and obviously homelessness

Let’s ask all the merchants to close their stores and leave the city. Like many other stores have done, close them all down. Problem solved. Only the homeless left.

Need a law that bans sleeping on the street. Kind of like parking tickets. Need to find out how these people are getting the money to buy drugs. If they are on disability, cut of the money flow. Then these people can not stay high on the governments dime.

San Francisco will likely never return to what it once was. The entire west coast of the United States, from Seattle to San Diego, is clueless as far as how to solve the "residentially challenged" problem.

Do they call people who choose not to drive cars "unvehicled"? A lot of these "unhoused" people CHOOSE not to live in a house with rules and laws.

How about moving the homeless encampments to the side walk of those city council house and see what they do

The city is going to create a commission to study the problem and provide the leadership with recommendations. Translation: It's going to take 5 years just to decide what the problem actually is.
