Good report on Hjelle Cody! I as you probably saw on BR community saw him pitch live in SD last year and saw this potential as he struck out 8 inn5 shutout innings. Melvin believed in him and that was key in his own confidence.
It took Randy Johnson several years to find his stride and he turned out solid. Hjelle most likely won't have the same career as Johnson but I don't think you give up on a physical anomaly like Hjelle without doing everything you can to tap into those physical gifts
He’s certainly earned a long look this season. Last night was an unfortunate situation to get thrown in and it was just a bad time to throw a hanging curveball. I’m happy to have been wrong on this one so far.
I won't lie, I was also the biggest Hjelle hater coming into this season. Hjelle, Miller, and Rodriguez are each showing potential to be solid arms out of the pen. With Doval, Walker, and the Twins continuing to be reliable as expected, there's no reason why the bullpen shouldn't be a strength moving forward (maybe Luke Jackson can stop pissing his pants every time his name gets called too).
Yeah Hjelle has really shocked me this season. And good for him because he seemed like a slam dunk DFA guy before the season. Jackson has been horrible so far. Would really like to see him stop being used in late innings.
