SFMC Foundations Session 01 - Data Management by Vladimir Silak Hosted by Marketing Cloud Grp, Cyberjaya Malaysia Hands-on Scenario Quip: quip.com/1WU0Ak6RaiVb/MC-Foun...
This is one of the best foundation video I have gone through for SFMC. I have been recently going through some starter courses and videos through Udemy and youtube, but this one personally felt the best!
To answer the second question around the unique identifier. It is a quite a common question ... If you do not have a dedicated identity management system or a crm like sfdc then you can use the universal guid function to generate unique IDs. It is supported both in ampscript and sql. Even supported in different programing languages like java and . net, Incase you want to generate it in an external system before pushing contacts via API.
HI Shibu.. in the initial document we have mention of only 5 source DE's customer, membership, booking and rental. but the DE's created are more than this in actual flow. how can we interpret the actual number of DE's we require for the total flow. and if the do we have any team review/approval on the flow coverage before we start working on creating DE's and email templates. are this additional DE's (Rental Survey Event Queue and Rental Survey Journey Track) defined and provided by data architect, do we get the required attributes in that DEs as we get for source DE's. please detail how the logic in selecting entry source DE.
HI Shibu.Question again on the time format. I have different time formats on the data loaded to a DE based on different regions in the file. How can i make all the dates are mapped to a common timing ( BU User Set Timing) while loading or when querying on the date field in the SQL query. thank you.
It's recommended that you set your timezone in the settings so that the date formats map correctly. Please refer to the links - help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=sf.mc_overview_timezone.htm&type=5 & help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=sf.mc_overview_supported_date.htm&type=5. The second link specifies that you can set the date format when importing. Another option is to convert the DE field to date format you need when querying in SQL or using AMPscript FormatDate function in Email / Cloudpages - salesforce.stackexchange.com/questions/274238/date-format-in-sql-query
HI Shibu. Apart from the mapping attributes from the source file, what are the other standard attributes (eg: Created date )we should use in the DE which might be standard and will be used with any sendable DE used for tracking/filtering or updating the content/subscriber during the journey. Do we have any such standard attributes to use by default( attribute is not as part of source-DE mapping file provided by the source team) which would benefit us in course of time or can we update the attribute later in the DE as required by making it nullable. ( Eg : initially i have not created the attribute "Valid Credit Card" but found that this would be used as a filter to divide the population based on the journey progress ). so can i add this attribute later ( even when we have records in the DE) with nullable value...plz advise
The attributes in the DE would be something that you would configure based on the biz process where you would be applying it for - some DEs that are created from Template already have few default Attributes pre-set - like TriggeredSendDataExtensions, Send Log, etc. Before creating the data model, it helps to review the biz process, and review the rough data flow and identify the data points that you will need. And as you mentioned, you can go and add in additional attribute fields later - but do be careful and refer to these links for the downstream impact of adding new fields - help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=sf.mc_cab_edit_a_data_extension.htm&type=5 & help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=000356355&language=en_US&mode=1&type=1
These foundational videos arent't specific for Dev - can be useful for any newbie starting off in SFMC - even for Admins. Idea is to have folks familiarize themselves with common features that they may come across as part of their daily work.
You can check in the Activity tab of an Automation workflow to see the details of success and failure runs. There's limitations to the details that is visible in logs when errors occur though.
Hi Andy - yes we just had the second session earlier today. I am trying to change my career from Testing to SFMC.. I am totally new to SalesForce. If I watch these series will I be able to attend for interviews? is there any possibility to do hands onn practise
These are meant more for folks who are starting off on SFMC and need a quick overview of the platform features that they will mostly be using for their day to day work. There is no free sfmc dev org - you will have to join a customer or partner for the same. Trailhead academy does provide training so u may get access for a short time.
Theres no specific category called Seed List DE in SFMC afaik - you can create a list or DE and store email addresses for the purpose of maintaining a seed list - either for testing purposes or using in campaigns. There is the option to create a testable DE though which you can use specifically for testing email sends. You can check the box Is Testable after checking Is Sendable when configuring the DE properties.
