Hey man! Did you get into sfu through fic or direct admission? Also it will be really helpful for me if you can suggest me if it is a good idea to get into sfu through fic utp stage 2. Thanks!

@Ashraful Islam I went through direct admission. I'm not familiar with the FIC program. The required courses are basically the same courses I had to take so you'll be learning the same things. Except for electives cuz I'm doing 100% only CS courses. Whether you should go through FIC, I'd talk to an advisor (they can be helpful, sometimes) but I'd weigh the pros and cons of your choices. If this is the only and best option and you wanna get into CS at SFU I say do it. FIC is crazy expensive lol.

I am a U.S. citizen who is currently finishing up my bachelor's degree in sociology and family science at the University of Maryland. I've been thinking of moving to Canada for a Master's degree in Social work, so I did alot of research and found SFU. I really like this school but I'm not sure if they have a MSW program. I still have a year and maybe a half due to the pandemic but if you have any information that would be beneficial, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!!!

@Latoya Wilson Nice to hear SFU made your list. I took a quick look but not 100% sure that there is a Masters program in Social work but it could be called something else here. I'd definitely suggest you connect with some of the departments and ask. If SFU doesn't have it, you can always check some other schools in Vancouver like UBC. Good luck in your studies!

thank you for responding. I did a lot more research you’re right l, there’s no msw program offering at sfu. i think i’ll expand my horizons and look around some more. Thank you.

Hey...I will be attending SFU through FIC program to study bachelor's in bio....can you suggest if I should get a laptop or iPad for note making process. It was great video 😊 thanks bruh

It depends on what you are more comfortable with and what you can take notes faster with. I used a Surface pro for Computing Science and it's been great. Being able to draw makes it really convenient for diagrams and I imagine bio has more of those. So if I had to choose, I'd get a laptop that you can draw on or the iPad.

I am interested to pursue my Masters degree in SFU! 😍 I have been seeing in some videos in RU-vid that sfu campus is gloomy and depressing and like a prison..how much true is that? 😄
@MikeThai
@MikeThai 3 года назад
@Tanima Ahmed LOL what you heard is somewhat true. Much of SFU (the main campus) is built with concrete, and some really old parts of campus that have narrow hallways with gray concrete walls and not much natural light. I had some classes there before, and it definitely seems prison like. There's a rumor that the designer also designed prisons LOL. There has been a lot of construction in the past few years and the new architecture is really open and bright. In the before COVID times, going to school daily didn't feel depressing at all, especially if you walk outside around the newly developed areas. In my opinion, the rainy Vancouver weather make's it gloomy and depressing lol.

What would you recommend Sfu or Ucalgary as an international student?
@MikeThai
@MikeThai 3 года назад
I think there are a few variables you'd have to consider like, what school has the program you want, which program is better at what school, what city would you rather study at, maybe costs as well. I can't really make a recommendation as I'm bias towards SFU and Vancouver lol. I would start with comparing the program you want and think about the factors that are important to you.

@@MikeThai well i was particularly planning for the school of computing science at sfu and faculty of cs at ucalgary. Since you are the first guy in canada i have ever contacted., i though you might be able to tell me if the living condition in better in burnaby or in calgary.
@MikeThai
@MikeThai 3 года назад
Ah ok. I think the weather in Burnaby/Vancouver is more mild. It snows way more in Calgary. I've been to Calgary briefly, they are both big cities so living conditions will be similar. The only thing I noticed is that the food is more diverse in Vancouver and it's very multicultural here. I have family in Calgary and they love it there. I know this answer prob doesn't help at all lol. I say Vancouver because it's easy to travel between Vancouver and Burnaby, they are relatively close. The tech industry is also growing in Vancouver, if you are thinking about the future.

@@MikeThai sorry..i hope i am not taking much of your time but i wanted to ask one last question.... Do you think after graduating sfu...it might be easier to get into ms cs program at ubc? Or jt might be the same for any other Canadian university. And yes, thank you for the response!!
@MikeThai
@MikeThai 3 года назад
No worries, ask away. I don't know all the answers but at least can maybe help guide you. It's likely that different schools have different acceptance criteria, so I would compare that on their respective websites. This will probably give you an indication of difficulty to get in. It might be similar between Canadian universities but there might be differences in the number of people they take (more competitive) or GPA cutoff. I hear that GPA will matter more if you want to do Master's. I also learned recently there's 2 types of CS masters programs. A researchy one and a functional one which is geared towards preparing you for industry jobs.

Bro please can you tell me ... Sfu has Master degree in architecture... Coz I want to get in Canada from india to get my masters... Also can you please tell me how much money is required for international students for Master in architecture? Thank you
@MikeThai
@MikeThai 3 года назад
This might be the page you want to look at for graduate studies. www.sfu.ca/gradstudies/apply/programs/alphabetic.html Doesn't appear to be a Master's in Architecture. There's information on this page about tuition fee as well although you míght have to contact a specific department to get an accurate cost, especially if your an international student.
