!!! I have just moved out of this dorm and no longer live there. If you have any questions about residence, west towers, or SFU in general, comment away!

Cheers for your video - Can I ask if the room doors are metal? Did you put up your bulletin board/dry erase on the door using magnets?

Hi Mirai, i will be going to SFU in the coming semester! Which accom would you recommend the most? For towers, are meal plan compulsory to take? Do you think living at mountain peak is better or actually mountain foot? Thank you!

Hi Elly, sorry for the late response! I'm sure you probably chose a building already, but I think if you have the budget, the courtyard residence seems the best out of the towers! If you want to save some $$ in towers, I would say go for Shadbolt (north towers) since it's closest to the dining hall. The meal plan is mandatory for all tower residents, but if you don't want to do a meal plan, you can try applying for halls! It's essentially a regular dorm but with shared kitchen amenities. I believe right now Mctaggart is under construction so your option for halls would be Shell House, and it is also closer to classes/bus loop! When you reach upper years, I recommend choosing townhouses if you're okay with having roommates, because you essentially get to live in a house with a living room, kitchen, etc. I would say if it's your first year, living on res is a great way to make friends! Also, being in proximity to classes is super convenient if you're okay with walking 10-15 mins! If you prefer being closer to shopping places then maybe off-campus would be better, but if you're taking the bus to campus it can be annoying when it snows and overcrowding! Also, (for the buildings that don't require meal plans) SFU residents can be much more affordable than many places off campus! Sorry for the long reply, I hope that helps :)

How do the bathrooms work? Can you keep your shampoo and other toiletries in the bathroom? Do you share it with just a few people? My son will be in east towers in the fall!

The bathrooms are open to all on your floor but they are single occupancy! So you can lock the room and have privacy. There are 6-8 bathrooms on each side of every floor (includes a shower, sink, and toilet). You can’t keep your toiletries in the bathroom so you should have a bathroom caddy ready! There is only a very small shelf on top of the toilet (I know, not great) and 2 hooks: so I would recommend getting a fabric hanging caddy which you can put on one of the hooks, or a plastic one with a handle. Also don’t forget to get some shower slippers because the floors are not sanitary to walk on barefoot! I hope this helps and good luck 😊

Any info or looks inside of PJ??? specifically the weird corner rooms??
@nadinemirai
@nadinemirai 11 месяцев назад
Hi, my sister actually lived in PJ for 2 years and its just like the other two north towers (barbara rae and shadbolt) beside it. The only difference is PJ is the furthest from dining hall/classes which can be a pain. It is an older building compared to some of the newer residences (concrete walls, communal stall bathrooms, etc) but I have seen some people make it look really cozy! The corner rooms sometimes have interesting windows but i would recommend choosing a room on the upper floors facing the townhouses or parking lot, then you won’t face any neighbours! and you could get a nice view

I’m confused about the move out ? Does that mean we get a different room each semester until our contract ends?
@nadinemirai
@nadinemirai 11 месяцев назад
Nope! You stay in the same room until your contract ends :) so for example i did fall/spring and stayed in this room both semesters. Although I do know some people who did a room switch because they didn’t like the environment of their room.

If the school term is done can I still stay in the dorm?
@nadinemirai

There will be a move-out date set so you can stay until then. I was done my exams 2-3 weeks before move-out but it depends on your classes. Some of my friends had exams until a few days before. The move-out days for each semester are listed here: www.sfu.ca/students/residences/community/important-dates.html

hi, about the new opened courtyard residence, have you been there or ever seen it closely? between east/west towers, and courtyard residences, which one do you think is the best?
@nadinemirai
@nadinemirai Год назад
Hii, I haven’t been inside the courtyard rooms but I was told they are slightly bigger than east/west because they have a bigger closet (almost like a walk in). I have been in the building and it is slightly newer and also has the housing office on the first floor so I think if you can choose it that might be the best one! Its also closer to classes.

Are pets allowed in the residence🤔
@nadinemirai

No, unfortunately pets are not allowed except for service animals I believe? (and you would need documentation)

Rent??
@nadinemirai
@nadinemirai Год назад
you have to pay in advance by semester, not monthly rent. each residence has different costs, you can check on the SFU residence fees page!
