I’m from their hometown, i think tony graduated with my pap. they gave me a mini harmonica once, and i remember meeting them. so kind. that was back in 2015, i was seven. still, they left such a great impression.

I'm originally from Elmira, NY where they eventually landed. I remember going to their restaurant decades ago. I think it was named simply "Sgros". Great place, lots of fun back then.

I have videotaped the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame yearly induction ceremonies in East Liverpool, Ohio the past several years....I have become friends with the Sgro Brothers after taping them in this yearly event several times.... Their personalities are as good as their music....Fantastic team and if you like harmonica performances these guys are the best of the best on the harmonicas.... They are native to Wellsville, Ohio, a small river village about 40 miles down river from Pittsburgh, Pa....East Liverpool where the Lou Holtz Hall of Fame is located is adjacent to Wellsville.... I am living in California and a native of East Liverpool and a combat Army Vietnam Veteran....I am also proud of the Sgro Brothers (a team of 3 brothers at one time) who all served our country in the United States Marine Corps....If you ever get a chance to see them perform playing their harmonicas, ya got to see them!

The best part is that the beloved Mr. Shriner sat at the same level as his guests - unlike the modern shows where the host towers over the guests like a judge.

At the time, 'TWO FOR THE MONEY" was on CBS' Saturday night schedule at 9pm(et), right after "THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW", for TWO sponsors: Lorillard's Old Gold cigarettes- and, on alternate weeks, the W.A. Schaffer Pen Company {Herb gave contestants a Schaffer pen "gift set" on those editions}.

The last number seems to be a medley of csárdás music, written in the style of traditional Hungarian folk dance tunes.. The first is "Csárdás" (1904) by Vittorio Monti, written for violin and piano. This transitions into Victor Herbert's "Romany Life" from his operetta "The Fortune Teller" (1898). Then it's back to the Monti piece for the wrap-up...

"we don't have any prize money, so here's 20 packs of smokes for each of you" To this day, the basic Hohner harmonica is known as the Marine Band

I noted the open belt buckle. It is still used on the Alpha uniform. Today's enlisted personnel use a solid brass buckle. Also, these Marines didn't have a " high n' tight " hair cut. It didn't make any difference. Great performance and a solid pitch for The Corps.

Does anyone know what became of the third member of the trio, Eddie Sedor? I believe they recorded for RCA as The Leathernecks the same year that they appeared on this show. Their Slow Train Blues is an excellent record!

It was the policy of the makers of Old Gold cigarettes- Herb's sponsor- for him to offer his contestants a carton or two of Old Golds...."Regular" and "King Size". Garry Moore did the same with his contestants on "I'VE GOT A SECRET" during the 1950's....for HIS sponsor, Winston.
