Sgt. Gary Beikirch served as a U.S. Army Special Forces medic during the Vietnam War. On April 1 1970, in the Kontum Province of South Vietnam, Sgt. Beikirch treated wounded indigenous and American soldiers while under intense fire from the North Vietnamese. For acts of valor that day, he was presented with the Medal of Honor in 1973.

I played in a band with Gary’s son about 19 years ago. We used to sit around the kitchen table, drink coffee, and talk with Gary. He never spoke about his accomplishments in the military. I didn’t find out he was a living recipient of the Medal of Honor, until I joined the Army in 2004. He is a great man. I’m proud to have known him.

Men with that type of personality, experiencing that serious of a battle, they usually push it on the backburner and try to forget in order to function.

I have an uncle (deceased) who is said to have spent nearly the entire Vietnam war in country as a Green Beret. I too have had very little success in identifying anything about his military service or his achievements at that time. His name was Terry Lanegan operating as Destry at some point, and was there from the early 60's until rotated home prior to the end of the war. He was based out of Fort Bragg, and lived most of his adult life in North Carolina. If anyone has any recollection of Terry Lanegan (Destry), please reach out to me!

A young man sacrificed himself so that Gary would make it back home to his family and friends...he worked at my middle school and possibly the high school, he was a nice gentle guy that literally everyone at the school loved.

One of the true people that changed my life. He was such an inspiration to me in High School. I loved to listen to him talk. A very proud and yet humble man. You were truly loved by many people. My sincerest condolences to the family of this wonderful man.

When my daughter was assigned her internship while pursuing her counseling degree, she casually mentioned one day how much she admired her mentor, how down to earth he was and how the kids gravitated to him. That mentor was Gary Beikirch. I asked her if she knew his background, and she did not. Myself, being an Army medic veteran, was well aware of his MOH. She was stunned. This conversation occurred near the end of her internship, and she had zero clue of his actions. I truly believe he was a major factor in her outlook and success, and I thank him for it. RIP, Gary, you will never be forgotten.

You are a humble man, Sargent, our family, with the utmost respect and gratitude 🙏, thank you for your service and the sacrifices you made for the free peoples of the RVN and the Republic of South Vietnam. Sadly, it is upon our shores now. I had several members of our family that served in frontline combat units in Vietnam; the various wars and skirmishes they served in profoundly affected their lives and relationships. I pray Br_____ and his cohorts get squared with God before the Time of Tribulation comes. God Bless!

Gary talked about his love for the people among whom he served. That is a proper use of love. It was beautiful to hear. People misuse the word love now when lust is a more accurate word. Sex isn't love. Wanting sex isn't love. Wanting healthy body parts cut off isn't love.

It’s funny how you get so mad over what other people do with there body’s Absolute brain dead behavior
@Hamann9631
@Hamann9631 Месяц назад
@@xdscorpoinz6394 There are multiple things wrong with your comment. Brain dead people do not know the simple difference between "there", "their", and "they're". Brain dead people do not write a with an apostrophe, then "s", then stop. "...body's" is "body" with a possessive modification. What did a body own? People misusing language are not doing anything only to their own body. They are using my ears and brain. When a person says "love", but they mean, "lust": they are misusing my brain. They are misusing language, which could lead to people not being able to communicate.

I love to hear the stories of these great American patriots , but unfortunately much of their stories, and especially the questions and comments by the interviewers, are nearly inaudible on my "smartphone". Would be nice if they ever checked their mics or recording levels . Maybe it is just my phone.Anyway, thanks to these great patriots.

A lot of things he said was also repeated over and over. One was training over and over until it becomes automatic muscle reaction before brain. Also he said he was fighting not for hate of his enemies but for love of the people he was fighting next to even those villagers. The last thing they all say is they are only the representative of the medal the real heroes were the men fighting next to him and the ones that paid with their life. Also for all of the men and women that fought in all of the wars, that died or are still living. Those college students that harassed him could have learned a lot from him. Not only did he help those people in many ways but he loved them too.

When he talked about people calling him a baby killer I had a thought. How many of those people were for the legalization of killing babies here at home by aborting them from the womb? How many of those people sex without babies and responsability to killing their own children? We know there are people now who claim to care about children and are fanatics of abortion. There could have been people like that before I was born.

I understand it is with all sincerity the use of live animals as training vehicles, in an effort to provide the most lifelike experience in training. Even as such, I will never understand the absolute cruelty humans insist inflicting on innocent creatures. In particular, creatures who would literally die for a human because they don't know better. It is sad and I am glad (if true) that the need for "vivisection" and live training models have been done away with. I just can't imagine anything more cruel than to willfully injure, experiment on, then kill a living creature.
