Omg so okay this is something that happens to me WAY too often as far as I am concerned. As a visibly disabled woman (#DisabledAF #Represent ) non-disabled people tend to stare at me. Gawk. For long periods of time. And usually, it's either confusion (Hmmm, I wonder why woman is so young and in a wheelchair --- 'cus I'm totally the first person whose not elderly to be in a wheelchair lol), pity (awe what you look at the poor disabled girl - because of course disability is by default tragic. Fun fact: It's not) or disdain. Just looks of ew and just dirty looks. But there is also that 4th category that is not so easy to read. It is the look of wow, seeing you here is just. so. inspirational - even though I am in the park, I am at the market reaching for the apple sauce - totally every day things and yet people find it just SO inspiring because disability is just SO tragic that anything disabled people do, becomes this brave courageous thing. The problem is this look is very borderline "wow, this person is kinda cute" and you really don't know until the person comes up to you. Are they going to be all like "hey there" or are they going to say "I just want to say that seeing you here [doing this utterly ordinary thing] is just SO inspiring. And there have been times, where I thought a person was flirting with me, and I smile back like "what's up?". Cue them being absolutely horrified because we are not on the same page. Flirting is complicated when you're visibly disabled --- unless you flirt with other disabled folk. Then it's easier lol

My friend's told me on a drunken night that the guy I was dating was gay. Mind you, it all made sense. The highly emotional factor, the flamboyant dance moves, and the boy staring. It should of been known from the start but I was too oblivious. Come to find out he would make out with a guy before me and him ever happened, claimed that his favorite kiss was with a guy (heard it from various sources). Imaginate ese momento de mi llanto. LOL! Especially since I was going away for the weekend with him to the beach that very next day. I finally gained the courage to ask him while I was stoned walking barefooted on the beach like Sandy and Danny (" is this the end" ( though John Travolta remains questionable)), he never said no; just got mad that I even asked. So yeah, I hear ya!

Omg Laura, once during my friend's 21st birthday 🎉 a group of friends and myself went out to the club to celebrate her birthday 🎉 and there was this cute guy in the group and he was dressed really nice 👍. At the club this guy started dancing with me and I was like ok cool 😎 it's my first time dancing 💃🏻 with another man. Then I asked him where's the restroom 🚽 because I don't go out very often and I don't know these places very well. So he took me to the restroom 🚽 and he waited for me outside and I was like oh how sweet and then we walk back to our friends and started dancing some more. He then starts dancing with other mutual friends (females) but then he would come back and dance 💃🏻 with me, and my other friends were like wtf!? What's wrong with this dude !? In my head I was thinking this guy has to be gay and he is a catch. After the club I left happy 😊 because I danced with another man for the very first time, this guy popped my same sex dancing cherry 🍒 Especially because I live in a community where machismo and homophobia is greatly represented. The next day in school I found out that he's straight and that he was/is (on and off) the birthday 🎉 girl's boyfriend. So all night I was dancing 💃🏻 with my friend's (on/off) boyfriend. And then he finds out that I'm gay and stops talking to me and he starts ignoring me and every time he saw me at school he would walk the other direction and I was like 😢 and after that I stopped going out.

I had the same problem but with a girl. Contrary to popular belief, most men are not super confident when it comes to women. Maybe in the flirting area they can be.
