I am not upset in the least how the story was changed. The cinematography the costumes the character portrayals perfect. Outside of the unneeded darkling back story and missing Alina's and Mal's kiss before finding the stag

Leigh said it was big budget fanfiction and she did not lie. Amazing showstopping spectacular never been done before gonna give the gays everything they want 😩😍 Alina and Mal pretty much being honorary Crows, Alina and Kaz shaking hands on a deal!!! Zoya playing a magnified role earlier on! They did an amazing job imo. Meanwhile everyone is excited for Nikolai I just want Tolya and Tamar! 😩 (ETA: imagine the first time we see Nadia and Tamar flirting I CANNOT, wait until we see Mal meeting Genya, David, Nadia and bonding with them! Hey I don't remember if you commented on this but did you notice that in episode 2 after the Darkling's Cut scene (after minute 26:30) Jesper and Kaz have this conversation: J: I mean it. We need a demo man. K: You're still on that? J: I just brought it up tonight. K: Jesper, you ask for an explosive expert on every job.. So my theory is we are definitely gettting our favorite demo man next season, we will see Nina slowly become part of the Crows and we will set the crew for the Ice Court in season 3 maybe?? Season 2 feels too soon but who knows..

Yeees !! I loved this little easter egg !! I hope they do that (if they get renewed, fingers crossed). But I am really confused about the situation in Ketterdam : the Dregs and Per Haskell were never mentioned, it almost felt as if Kaz was just the boss of the Crow club and had his little gang and that's all (everyone kept calling him Boss and saying they worked for Kaz and not Per Haskell). I hope it's not it because I love the all gang dynamic, and how Kaz fake being submisive with Per Haskell when everyone knows who is truly running the gang... we'll see.
@simoneg.2165
@simoneg.2165 3 года назад
@@SissouLoveVideo Oh right I didn't notice that.. I also would have liked Per Haskell but now I don't know how they'll introduce him.. Kaz got the job by himself without asking permission.. @@simoneg.2165 Yes, I think Kaz was definitely on his own, and yes that really isn't what upsets me the most. It isn't that big of a deal since he was unofficially the real boss anyway in the books and if he is supposed to be older here then it makes sense that he is already the real leader. I'm mostly curious about the dynamics in Ketterdam and I hope we spend more time with the Crows there in season 2. I feel like they might not have to force the merging of the two storylines so much in season 2 now that the audience knows everyone and that they have all meet, they can leave the Crows in Ketterdam or doing other heists on their own in season 2 and then make them part of the bigger picture again in season 3.

I agree ! I am biased because Kaz is my favorite character but although I really loved the show, my biggest issue was what they did with Kaz. I think the actor did an amazing job, but the writers didn't show enough his abilities : no really crazy ingenious plan, he didn't fight as well as he does in the books ( I loved seeing him using his cane but he is also supposed to carry a gun in case he needs it and here he needed it several times) and no lockpicking ! Therefore, in this first season Jesper (and Milo !) was definitely my favorite character !

I really did love this show. I've read the books so many times that I noticed even the littlest changes in the story (I think), but I actually enjoyed most of those changes, which is super not like my normal reaction to book to screen alterations, like, at all. 😂 9/10! 🖤🖤🖤

I binged the show yesterday with my husband. I’ve read the books but he hasn’t, and we both ended up really enjoying it. I LOVED the way they integrated the Crows. It felt pretty seamless and not at all forced. I love the way everything looked, especially Ketterdam. I also love the way everyone is styled and the costumes are absolute perfection. Glad you liked the show! I LOVED it too! I started reading the books for the first time when the first trailer came out, I'm halfway through book 2 now, so I have not read Six of Crows yet. But I know the story of the first Alina book and I loved how they weaved the Crows into the story of Alina. It felt very natural and logical. I also loved that they kept almost every character from the book in the show, even the minor ones. I LOVED Nina and Matthias, and yes as a gay man I got weak during the 'keeping each other warm' scene haha. That man is simply my dreamguy. Only thing I'm sad about is they cut out the scene at the lake where Alina shows her power at night over the lake. I hope the show gets renewed ASAP. This show needs to go on until the very end on the book stories. I would rate it a 9/9,5 out of 10.

After each episode I watched your reaction and it was a great experience because I don’t have anyone to discuss with. So thank you for filming them, I love hearing your opinions and feelings and insights. I feel like although they have deviated from the original work it feels very authentic? Like everything the crows did and planned felt on brand with their characters from SOC and CK. I feel like they could be on to SOC by season 2 or 3 though so I’m not sure how it will all tie together, it’s possible that there will be bigger changes to the books later on because of the smaller changes they’ve already made but as long as it continues to feel in character I’m okay with that. I haven’t been following production so I’m not sure if adding King of Scars later is an option but I could see it picking up before the events of Crooked Kingdom conclude. Can’t wait to hear more of you thoughts on what’s to come.

I'm still trying to gather my thoughts and figure out how to articulate them well. I'm going to watch it again this weekend because my mom expressed interest in watching it as I read the books earlier this year and randomly talked about them to her and expressed my anticipation of the show with her, so I could change my mind on some things or notice more, etc. Something I think I would have preferred is having further backstory for Nina and Matthias in this season. Like, this season focus on Nina in the Grisha army and then she goes away in the second season so she's not there for those events. And focus on Matthias' time as a Druskelle and then capture and meet Nina in the second season; getting their backstory that we read about in SoC during the second season. I would have liked to have established them better as characters first, especially if the show was framed as if we're just following all these different characters in the Grishaverse though Alina is still the main character- if you get what I'm saying. I think it would have blended everyone's storylines better instead of having it seem like Nina and Matthias were a random plotline that non-readers don't understand the significance of. I'm also being a little particular and biased here because Nina and Matthias are my faves and I find their relationship so compelling! I also think having that character establishment would make their backstory feel more interesting because there would be that underlying tension of them trying to survive together while at any moment one could betray the other but they also kind of like each other. I just didn't get that conflict and struggle the way I read it in SoC. OH, also I like Nina telling Matthias about the other Grisha being there when she turned him in *during* SoC. It's not that big of a deal but it's definitely part of the way he thinks about her betrayal until she later reveals the full situation. So I don't like that in the show she tells him before he's off to Hellgate. I love that Mal says, "I'm sorry that it took me this long to see you, Alina. But I see you now." [Episode 6.] I love that they're actually talking and being upfront about things while still keeping those _I'm in love with you_ feelings to themselves, which is fine in my opinion! Alina has a lot going on; lives and the country are at stake; etc. Something I wish was portrayed more is other Grisha at the Little Palace talking about Genya. I feel like her wanting to wear true Grisha colors and feeling like an outsider even in a palace full of other Grisha wasn't shown well and would add to understanding her character better. I think I would have preferred random Grisha talking about the King going to Genya rather than the confrontation Genya has with Alina in the tent, maybe. I'm still questioning how I feel about that confrontation scene because when I read the books I was so occupied with her betraying Alina that I didn't even fully realize her situation, so then during certain scenes in Ruin & Rising I was in shock and didn't care how I previously felt about her. I understood her more and was just like, yeesss Genya! I don't think they'll do the Six of Crows heist until after they finish telling the Shadow and Bone trilogy all the way through because of the jurda parem. I don't see that as a spoiler because people will only know what that is if they've read the SoC duology. I just don't think that would be a good idea to have that at a time with The Darkling / Sun Summoner conflict going on. Hopefully everything there is okay! I don't think I included specific things that were spoilers. I tried being as vague as possible while still maintaining some clarity. Other than storyline stuff: the cast and costumes and music are amazing!! A+. Sometimes the power special effects look weird but for the most part they're great and don't take me out of the show, which I think is most important! Alright, this is a long enough comment, lol!

I was wondering if they were trying to set up something with Zoya and Inej maybe being distantly related because they're both Suli. There was that moment during the party where that rich woman called Inej Zemini and Zoya is like no she's Suli. I was like oh damn you recognize her because you're half Suli. Also on the skiff I think its Inej calling out to Zoya saying her name, or it might be the other way, I can't remember but I was like how do you know her name?

I thought they did a wonderful adaptation of the book. The S&B book stuff was perfection, but (and probably unpopular opinion) I thought the Six of Crows stuff was a bit subpar. The actors were great, but I think the decision to leave out important backstory (the show never even said that Kaz can't touch people) and not enough Kaz/Inej pining was a disappointment to me.

Exposing the name Aleksander and underdeveloped Alina’s training at little palace were my two disappointments, but I don’t think any adaptations can hit A+ for all fans, I can’t believe the moment I truly needed was Alina and Inej forming a friendship on the ship with her gifting Inej a blade 🥰 BFF I’m officially Malina yes the minority, which I don’t mind a bit, that said, I think it’s wise to keep their kiss in the next season so Alina doesn’t give away her kisses all in the first season LoL, I do wonder if Mal will be linked to a new amplifier as some have worded... Inej, Kaz and the most adoring Jesper have risen to the best trio, their dynamic is 🔥

Had a good time, but I’m conflicted about the finale. I feel like the series has really accelerated the timeline. The Darkling is already power trippin’ HARD out here, destroying a whole(?) city. I think the Darkling was still somewhat worried about appearances and the King’s opprobrium at this point in the book? Does this move make sense for him? Also, attacking foreign dignitaries? He wants to intimidate, not get them all killed, right? And because he’s Mask Off now, Zoya is also already noping out way before she does in the books. I wonder how this accelerated timeline will change the way the Siege and Storm storyline plays out. Also, Mal definitely comes across as more adult and less sullen teenager in the adaptation, so him standing up to the Darkling here is more credible. But I’m not sure I buy the two getting into a fistfight. I mean ... the Darkling would just murk him, right? Like on the spot. No need for him to throw a punch.

I think you’re misremembering. At the end of the first book, he did go on the skiff with foreign dignitaries and expand the fold. The only differences in this adaptation are the Crows aboard the skiff, Zoya witnessing it first hand, the dignitaries being killed by a heartrender, and Alina taking the whole skiff. In the original series, Alina drops her power and runs off with Mal, leaving everyone on the skiff (including the dignitaries) to the volcras. Zoya I think only heard about the fold expanding and didn’t see it.

Him expanding the fold was at the end of book one so it’s really not sped up. Some of the details changed but not in enough of a way that he changed quicker or anything. I do agree about the fistfight though. I was wondering as they were fighting why the Darkling wasn’t just using magic.

@@biblionerd @Thoughts on Tomes It’s been years since I read the books, so you guys know better than me. Although I do think there is a difference having Alina run away vs. directly attacking the foreign dignitaries with Grisha powers. And I guess I thought Darkles would at least make more of a pretense of saying, “And with the authority and blessings of the Ravkan crown, I am now putting all pf you on notice.” Instead of unilaterally doing everything on his own. I felt like in the books it was clear why the Grisha were loyal to him and would follow him into the abyss, whereas here, I was just like, “😦 u scary and out of control.”

I can’t wait to hear your final thoughts. As someone who really loves the Grishaverse, I really enjoyed the series and all the moments I couldn’t wait to see onscreen. However, stepping out of those shoes and looking at the show from the eyes of someone whose never cracked open the books, I feel like the writing missed the mark and fell a bit flat. With the exception of the childhood connection between Mal and Alina (which I thought was even better in the show than the books), the show didn’t capture the level of emotion from the books. It felt a little muddled and some foundational storyline issues were underdeveloped. Talking to a bunch of friends who’ve never read the books, they were confused for half the season.

While I did like the change of the antlers being embedded into Alina's skin because of how horrific it is, I'm a little annoyed that David did it. He's a Fabrikator? He can't affect the human body? How did he manipulate skin like that? That part doesn't make sense. I know this is minor but it's bugging me.

I have the theory that this season was more the prequel of their pining, in the sense that kaz develops more romantic feelings and attachtment from these seasons events on. My base for this: in ep 4 Inej hands him her blades before her performance, while keeping eye contact. In the short moment after that interaction, kaz seems to need a short moment to ...compose himself? And from that point on, it seems to me he starts to stare more. I don't feel like inej is doing this in a seducing way but rather to challenge kaz a little with his own words ("as a friend once said, if can't ...none of us will"), and in my mind this banter combined with the rest sparks something more in kaz. Of course one can argue that he pawns off the crow club before this. And of course I might be a little bit to obsessed with them and reading way to much of what I want into their interactions.

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed with the show, even though I went in with lower expectation after the teasers. The things they did well, they did super well, chef´s kiss! But unfortunately, at least for me, both the story and the character work left a lot to be desired. This is such a shame because the books themselves are cinematic enough. They had a perfect blueprint, but still, they decided to rework almost the whole thing, and as it usually goes, the result is watered down a lot for my taste. No matter how pretty the package, if the heart and soul are not quite there, I´m always going to be disappointed. But there´s an easy solution - I´m already halfway through book one! :) Loved your videos though, and I am genuinely happy so many people enjoyed the show. In the end, art is subjective, and this one just wasn´t for me.

Honestly this was one of the weakest episodes for me. I didn’t love the dialogue and wish it had been 10 episodes instead of 8 to give the big moments more time. Overall still loved the show but this episode and the fist were the weakest for me.
