I am such a sucker for these SOTC secrets, I watch these kinds of videos all the time, and yet after all of these years of video watching I have never seen a single one of these images used in a video before. This is some seriously deep-cut secrets. Images of cut colossi and arenas in full view, with coordinates and locations graphed out on paper. There's no more speculating from the few images from the art book anymore, all the information is here! Incredible find!!!
Yeah these were discovered a lot more recently than most SOTC things, I think some people in the community managed to get these from a dev and someone leaked them on 4chan about a year ago but I'm surprised there isn't a nomad video on them or anything, atleast we have an E3 demo now though
@@dacmod1 nomad was part of team that received these in secret before they got out and leaked. More then likely it hasn't been brought up as they cut contact with the source to protect them and they were never given permission to show them publicly before the leak
@@lil_blue2984 oh yeah I remember reading that nomad was part of this, still sucks that we can't get a bit more analysis on these images, though I guess it sucks even more that we won't be able to get even more images or possibly even earlier images from the source.
The colossus you're referring to is known only as Roc and looks more like a dragon-esque creature than a bird. The frills on its neck look like something belonging to a lizard. Ueda said it was scrapped due to collision issues with the environment when it went airborne, which explains what's happening the only existing footage of it; it's clipping into the map.
There’s actually a group of people making a fan made game of that. Where you only fight the unused colossi. Link to video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FNsAY3HZV0o.html
@@HyperSonicXtreme It would be nice, but I personally don’t see that ever happening. At least we can have a taste of what it might have been like with this fan made game.
the image 0:05 disturbs me so much lmao. especially the bottom one. unused content has always given me this weird other-worldly feeling, but these pictures embody it perfectly. the thing that gets me so much about the bottom photo (and I could be looking at it wrong, I wouldnt be shocked I have a tendency of doing that) is im fairly certain it's spider after you kill it. I already have an intense aversion to dead things, but the legs are what really freak me out. the clouds and wander in the photo really put the sense of scale into picture. the strange thing is that, again, assuming that its dead, it can't hurt you anymore. but whenever I look at the photo it's like I'm waiting for it to get back up, or hurt the player some how. I dont really know how to explain it? I'll shut up now before I start repeating myself even more than I already am. I just thought it was an interesting reaction that I was wondering if anybody else shares.
Fun fact about that bottom image: Originally, the arena for Spider was literally filled with corpses of other dead Spiders. The bottom image shows said corpses.
@@meowsandstuffVery interesting. Do you know what's going on with G7 at 0:35? It almost looks like they were planning to move Labyrinth from I7 to there.
@@masonbates7959 Exactly what was going to happen. I7 was in the process of being moved over to G7 for some unknown reason, before finally to F8 when Buddha became Evis.
@@meowsandstuff Buddha always seemed more interesting to me than what it eventually became. I always thought the line from Argus' description "It acts as a sentry to a destroyed city." would be used for Buddha. I wonder if any of the other unused colossi had descriptions?
@@masonbates7959 Sorry for the late response. Spider: Thy next foe is...A crown lies hidden on the lake...The awakening of the dead destroys thy world...Overthrow its king... Sirius: Thy next foe is...The land of the vast, ancient fields...Rows of guiding graves...Its fearlessness shall be thy path to victory... Phoenix: Thy next foe is...In the land where trees nary grow...Extinguish the fury of the mountain to soothe its fierce awakening... Those are the only ones I have. Some of these lines ended up reused for colossi in the final version (specifically Sirius')
What I noticed: 0:35 If you pay attention, you can see Stonehenge and Badlands, as well as beta Canyon and beta Geyser 0:40 Confirms Basaran used to live in I3. 0:45 Confirms Argus replaced Worm after its removal. 0:50 You can see Crater at I4 1:00 Gives us a better view of how the eastern map would look like, showing us beta Geyser, beta Canyon (Avion's arena) and Crater. 1:05 Confirms many Colossi location, besides telling us that Avion (and the Canyon arena) were once located in H3 and that the I1 structures were part of a very early-in-development colossi arena (Evis).
Argus was not made to replace worm, as proven by at 0:38 you can see the Parthenon at H1 along with Dune. By “replace” it probably meant that the area will be taken over by the neighboring Minotaur C and thus, replacing it PS: the building in the bottom picture at 0:25 is the early version of the parthenon, as it looks very similar to the design we see in game. you can also see some grass like textures in the picture as well, which checks out the idea that area connected to H2, which judging by the small section left over at I2, seemed to have been a grassy plain, so it would make sense for H1 to have grass if it connected to H2
@@rickalbuquerque595 I think I may have worded my original reply poorly, so sorry about that, but I was trying to say that Worm and Mino C once lived at the same time. It wasn’t as if when Worm was cut, they hastily made Mino C to accommodate for its removal. Several images in this video prove that Worm and Mino C lived at the same time

SotC took Ueda and the team longer than expected. I'll never stop dreaming of playing the cut Colossi, but it's not really fair to blame Sony. Game dev is complicated, things didn't work out, but we still got a masterpiece that feels like a finished, fully realised work despite the last minute cuts.
Leo Art in the comments here did a good job, so I just translated it to english for us english people to read through - Conclusion on these 4Chan Leaks - Spider - Confirmation that Spider was at two points on the map (F1 0:40 and later at 0:45 (Line #17), 1:00 D3). The source also leaked an outline of the battle strategy in D3. Griffin - 0:40 Griffin Arena confirmed south of two arenas [Crater Phoenix] and [Geyser Turtle #9]. Later being deleted from the map and replaced by the [Crater Phoenix] arena. In the test stages table, it is listed at No. st07 Griffin - Valley. At 0:50 in the doc dated 2003, it shows in a low resolution image, Wander on top of Griffin with his HUD in the lower left corner. (It matches the fact that Griffin existed in i4). Roc - 0:15 Glimpse of the Roc [Badlands] arena, 1:00 confirmation that Minotaur B was not created to replace it as both existed on the map at the same time. In 0:45 (Line #43) Saying that badlands [Roc] should be replaced by Canossa [Minotaur B]. Yamori_A - 0:30, 1:00 and 1:05 Confirmation that there were indeed two Gekko type colossi in the Game. B3 Yamori_A [Sluice] and G6 Yamori_B [Underground]. (Even I doubted that one) Devil - 1:00 (デビル) Confirmation that Devil lived in D2, 1:05 with the arena called devils_plain. 0:45 (Line #9) written: D2 - devils_plain - Name: Devil - Has been modified - Make it impossible to climb into the battle area, but leave it as terrain. Some dataminers had already found out about its location, but I find it interesting to put here the comment from the source of why Devil was removed from the game: 'This Colossus was complete to some extent, but was removed from the game after it was decided that a character whose design was only slightly larger than Wander's could not be called a Colossus...' Yes, they excluded the guy for being small T.T Worm - 0:35, 0:45 (Line #5) and 1:00 Confirmation of his arena in G1. On the leaked rendered map you can also notice a gap between colossus #11 and #15. Source confirms it was a stationary colossus. imgur.com/4kOETyc Sirius - 1:00 Arena in E8 and source can't remember why he was excluded. ¯\(°_o)/¯ Phoenix - 0:40 In an early development draft having its arena further north, 1:00 and 1:05 later moving to I4. Monkey - No image or note in the documentation, not even a confirmation that it was added to the map. Only present in a table of test stages as No.4 - st03a - (Monkey) サル - Cave. (In the image I linked below the next stage is crossed out, so it is very likely that the Monkey stage has become st04, which matches the image in the artbook where it is written in the debug options "Stage 4 (Cave)"). imgur.com/8GygcoI Evis - There was at least an intention to have him in the game. 1:05 but even his arena doesn't seem to have been named. Hard to tell if it was a copy of Malus #16 which until this version was on i7 having the name [Buddha Labyrinth] or was the design shown in the artbook. Comment from source: "Evis was to be the final boss and would live on I1. However, halfway through development we decided to make edits to Buddha and make him the final boss. we also named him Evis. fans call him Malus. but because of that idea, Evis(original in I1), was never finalized.'' The Dam - 0:25 In fact the 'Dam' connected to the Minotaur C arena, making way for two arenas [Parthenon] and [Geyser Turtle #9 in i3 ] and the [Parthenon] had the same texture as the brick arch. (It's a little confusing to me here because of the Japanese, but apparently the Dam was placed in B3, being the extra area (Called Sluice) for the Yamori_A. This explains why some models/parts of Dam (Sluice) are still found in that region). Image to elucidate: imgur.com/a/3LyoGAy [Continued below]
Leo Art 1 week ago (edited) Interesting comment about the leaks ''It's true that folks don't like to talk about Wanda to Kyozō. Sometimes in the past, development members took the liberty of leaking details from the time of development on Twitter and other sites without permission, which became a big problem as there were wrong or private stories there. The game director, Ueda-san, was not a person who wanted to be open about the development process, so we were all very cautious when we were not at the GDC or in other formal settings. Even though Ueda-san has now left SIE, I still want to be cautious. -- Snake Info (Phalanx) ''The 13th had an original idea for a scenario where he would throw explosives and track the player and aggressively attack him. These were ideas that were rejected by Ueda-san because they were difficult to manage or didn't fit the project. In the end, they couldn't come up with a good plan of attack that could be easily managed, so the designers ended up with a graceful boss that just slowly flies through the air.'' -- 3 Descriptions also came out in this leak, they are: Spider ''Your next opponent is... A crown is hidden in the lake... The awakening of the dead destroys your world... Overthrow your King'' Sirius (Half of that description was reused in Kirin #4) ''Your next opponent is... In the land of the vast green fields... Rows of tomb guides... Your fearlessness will be your path to victory...'' Phoenix ''Your next opponent is... In the land where trees never grow... Extinguish the mountain's fury to calm its fierce awakening...'' - Here is a transcript of the game's storyboard (It is dated July 6, 2004, when there were still 24 behemoths in the game) In it you can learn a lot about how Dormin came about, if there were people living in the Forbidden Lands, and the existence of the behemoths. pastebin.com/kjA3dmPW **Comment about spider** Well, water has always been tied to this colossus, in the artbook below a picture of Spider it says: ''It would be defeated by taking it from water to land. About attack with the horse, Interview published in Weekly Famitsu on December 2, 2005. ''Ueda: At the first public release of Shadow of the Colossus, several Colossi were shown in material distributed to the press. The bird-type Colossus and the spider-type Colossus were nearing completion. Spider was meant to be defeated by slashing it with his sword while riding Agro, but that would have required us to make a special move just to fight that Colossus, so I didn't think it was very elegant. However, the idea to defeat that one was resurrected in Turtle (the 9th Colossus)''. That idea of getting him out of the water and then hitting his legs with Agro, have been behind when I was still in F1... It's hard to know, even with so much info there are a lot of gaps
I wasn’t in the thread but wondering if whoever doing the development is adding in some of the colossi that had the embed code/design already in the data but was never made? Like the other gecko that a few people found out about that’s similar to Kuromori.
From the times I've been at D2 I would say no. The only thing that remains are the stairs. I would think Devil's Plain would be up on top of the mountain that's still there and you would climb up to it because Agro is not seen in any screenshot of Devil.
@@masonbates7959 I've explored the mountain at D2 curious on how Wander would have reached the top. Unless the team drastically changed the mountain itself, I imagine there may have been vines that Wander would use to reach the arena.
