This was the best evidence I had at the time about the 8 discarded colossi. After months of research and discussion with another SotC fan (Morlun91) we had pieced together some new evidence, WWWArea also helped.
It was a collaborative effort which has resulted in some exciting new finds which I hope you will enjoy.

Yes, all of the evidence I had speculated back in April 2015 has now been updated and refuted! But, back then it was just me a few other fans (this was the dark age) after the end fof the PS2 'Last Big Secret' forums and before Wisi arrived. So for years I was the last hacker, and I posted what I thought was relevant.

the biggest tragedy is the hard work people put into modeling, texturing, rigging, animating, and playtesting these colossi, just for them to be scrapped and go unappreciated. we can't even get a good look at these colossi, most of them. who knows if there's even a backup of them somewhere on someone's hard drive.

For example 11 and 14. They're the least impressive ones. Phoenix, Worm, Spider they all look way more amazing.

Is it just me that gets a scary vibe from those colossi images? like the way they are huge and look at the camera and you will never know what kind of animation they would've had. it's kind of an "hes just standing there... menacingly!" kind of scary

+Nomad Colossus My biggest hope is to see this masterpiece rebuilt by Team ICO and Japan Studio after The Last Guardian comes out. New engine, new physics, new models, new everything, with all these uncut colossi and a kickass graphics (even if original graphics are gorgeous imho), and maybe a little bit more backstory (but i'm not so sure about this, I LOVE the mysterious feeling of this masterpiece).

i dont understand why they aren't making the sequeal of shadow of collosus my chilhood memories are attached with it even today also this game will get that much love like it use to get before ,this game was one of its own kind ever made,no other game can take it place...i am still waiting for it sequeal ...and if get realeased then i will be the first to purchase it at any cost

And here's the new evidence since most of these are outdated Phoenix - I4 Griffin - Nowhere Monkey - Nowhere Spider - F2 in "alpha" maybe D3 in "beta" Roc - D6 (Barba replaced Roc after its removal) Sirius - E8 Worm - G1 (Argus replaced Worm after its removal like Roc) Devil - D2 Yamori A - B3 ( where we thought Roc lived) Buddha - I7 (speculative) These final two were most likely not included because they were so obscure Datamined colossi will forever be unknown but they were probably just concepts

Man I wish the other 8 made it in. 48 would have been too much, but 24 would have been just right. Even when playing for the first time I felt something was missing.

Keep in mind, this was ambitious when it came out; even now it is difficult for developers to replicate this. That said, I wish Barba and Argus were replaced by the monkey, the Phoenix, or even the spider. Those guys were just different renditions of the 1st colossus.

the character should have the Queen's sword,which is why it is there. Since there was some shadowy dudes already in the shrine when wander first walked through. i know this is 1 year late.

Ok. My theory is they killed the original 8, but unfortunately, they decided to go after one of the following Colossi. Pelagia, Malus, Gaius, Celocia or Cenobia, Dirge, or Barba. Pelagia death: Electrocuted. Either that or crushed. Malus: Shot dead. Fell. Gaius: Crushed. Celocia: Crushed. rammed to death. Cenobia: Mauled. Dirge: Eaten. Barba: Fell. Crushed.

For me it's completely incredible that after so many years you guys keep finding more and more stuff (and I guess there's much more to find yet). The only thing I would like to know it's the confirmation about how SotC and ICO are exactly plot connected. I know that it's mainly made like this to create our own story and figure it out on our own, but geez, I can't describe how exactly I feel without knowing the absolute truth :P Props for all of you guys, I'm waiting for some new stuff.

IglaCovers Yep 10 years in fact (2005 - 2015)! It's actually the 10 year anniversary of SotC, so I'm glad I can still present something new at this late stage. Although I think this is as far as we can go as to where the discarded colossi lived, unless we get some new information (like from a developer or something) this is as close as we can get to the truth right now. I don't see this video being updated until I have definitive proof that what I have revealed here is wrong!

Nomad Colossus Yep, info from a developer would be the final step in solving the whole "mystery" around their game (or gameS perhaps?). Anyway - it's still VERY impressive for a "small, grey gamer" like me, who totally fell in love in this game. Even if I'm not seeking any stuff on my own - I'm only complaining on what I see on all your videos. Nomad Colossus hey nomad I had a thought what if the colossus was the god, demon, thing that takes over wander and was the supposed secret ending that was taken out or removed where wander and the devil fight to the death

IMO that kind of ending would have been too much "casual". Anything about this game, about it's plot AND especially - the ending - is one of a kind. Battles between good and bad are just too common, while the big disappointment and failure of the main character (spoiler alert - well, the girl woke up but... you know what was the pirce) is really rare. That's what makes this game so special. It's just totally different and leaves the player... empty. It was like this in my case.

I remember watching these kinds of videos about SotC lore and beta content and such when I was 10 years old, so seeing this stuff pop up again recently has been quite a trip down memory lane. I was always really fascinated particularly by Pelagia's little back area. There's something so off the beaten path, and sort of secret about Pelagia's arena. The way the bridge kind of looms over it, with the forest on the other side of the bridge, I've always felt like Pelagia's area had to have some kind of deeper secret to it, because compared to most other colossi approaches in the game, it's a lot more concealed. Even like, Kuromori, or Barba's arenas are partially visible from elsewhere in the world, and you fight them underground. One thing I've noticed is how similar Pelagia's bridge looks to the unused dam

it's moreso the AI that's the problem. It'd be quite tough to not only replicate the art style, but the animation style and the AI thinking.

I love how these beta colossus are like some actual mythical creature with grainy photos and all. I just wish that the remake showed some creativity and initiative in bringing these back.

Shame they discarded some of these collosi. Most of these are more creative than some in the final game and look rather unique. The game might've been a bit more diverse if some of these were kept instead. They're all good but I really would've liked some of these in the final game.

Wow, as always, incredible detective work. I'm surprised there was just enough information still there to narrow down the locations of the beta colossi to this degree. Interesting that the Turtle colossus originally belonged to I3... never would have guessed that. Also cool to know that the Devil colossus presumably was located next to the dam. I always figured that either some colossus battle would have taken place on the dam, or that the dam would be leading to a colossus arena. The shot at 17:00 makes me kind of sad. I never saw the "brick area" from that angle, and always presumed it was just a dead-end cliff. However, that screenshot makes it very clear it would have continued on (probably a long ways) into H2, but all that data has been deleted from the disk...

I love your videos. All the suggestions and speculations. This game for me has a great impact on me. The mood on this game is haunting, in a good way. The need to survive and at same time to revive Wander's girl. Hunt down the colossis, seeing all the previous life gone and ruins left behind. Great job bro.

Nomad, every time I see one of those videos it reminds me when I was younger and questioned every single thing in games, looking for mysteries and cut content. Nowadays is difficult to find a game to do that... I feel really sad knowing there aren't many possibilities to get those cut colossi back... But the child I have inside keeps dreaming about it every time I see your videos. I even had my own speculations about colossi in the past, but what can I say to your evidence? I read all your blog in one sit when I saw the video you talked about the rings where you fight Phalanx and I started to search for more info about the unused colossi, and every search I did it leaded me to your info. In those years you made me replay the game a lot of times, just because something told me there was something more that I didn't see the last time (even if I was aware that all the content I was missing wasn't accessible by playing through the game). For all this and more thanks for making those videos! Like many I'm looking forward The Last Guardian and the mysteries it will come with.

I'm so surprised every time a new SotC video comes up. I've been following these for years and people are still finding things. Love your videos! I remember the days Pikol was looking for stuff back in 2009. I was actually online the night he found the dam on the gamespot forums. Good times. Out of the removed colossus, I think the worm is the one that looks the coolest. Sad it was cut. I've never heard of Dormin mentioning a friend though. I wonder if you would have fought Dirge early in the game, and then the worm towards the end? I couldn't see fighting them both at the same time. Thanks for posting what you have found, it's definitely keeping the mystery of my favorite game alive.

Bugbag100 Confirmed. You were there! Sorry for any doubt, but I looked it up. First post is at 3:47pm, looks like your time zone was convenient for this monumental occasion! The next post is early the next day 7:46am (after a good night's sleep dreaming about the Dam I suspect xD).Note: You said you wrote a review - is that still available? And yes, the whole idea of Wander fighting two colossus, one after the other is complete rubbish! This was posted on the Team Ico wiki as fan fiction, but somehow it has evolved into a myth that fans believe is true, much like the 17th colossus or an alternate ending. But I can tell you that there is no truth in it.

Nomad Colossus Nah, I deleted all of my old stuff. I was really young then so my grammar was terrible. In those days though I practically lived Shadow of the Colossus. It's still my favorite game. I remember searching every corner of the world in those days just trying to find something new. I never found anything of course, but it was the most fun I've had exploring a game. I'm still exploring after all this time even though I know you and Pikol have practically pulled this game apart and examined every little detail. When Pikol found the Dam I was freaking out thinking a removed colossi model might still exist around there. Sad there wasn't one. And yes, I remember reading that on the Team Ico wiki many years ago. I actually thought it was fact then, but one of your videos made me think otherwise.

As the Devil lived right next to the Dam, even though it was removed the Dam would have been an epic background to this colossus battle ; )

Nomad Colossus I was guessing the Monkey at first but really happy the area for the devil (used to call him the bat), has finally been found. I used to think he was around colossi 14's area, that little observatory place near there with the pillars reminded me of him. It looks like a small arena. I think you did a video of it a very long time ago, might be wrong though. I'm actually happy so much didn't make it into the game. Something about it gives the game this unique feeling, this sense of exploration no other game has given me. Those colossus have so much mystery surrounding them, it wouldn't be the same if they were in the game.

Everyone else (including me) always talk about how they wish the game was completed! I have always dreamed of a full '24 colossi' version of the game, but I really get where you are coming from. Would there be as much mystery and speculation if all the colossi were included? Pikol wouldn't have found the Dam, the beta mountains and all the other left over content which I (and others) have spent 6 years exploring. It would just be like any other game where there is no need to look for secret content. Sure, the nature of the game would entice players to look for more secrets, but all those 'leftover' lands wouldn't have been there and as such, the game wouldn't be as mysterious as it is today - so thanks for your perspective, I had never considered this 'alternate reality' before ; )

Why couldn't they have added a dragon colossus? I know they have Kuromori, but still, there is only 1 flying colossi in the actual game itself, and I know 4 of the colossi in this video could fly and one is burning embers, but do they breathe fire like Kuromori? No, but if they had brought in a dragon instead of the Phoenix, that would have been cooler. Also the Roc colossi is named Avus.

+hannah weaver There are 2. Phalanx flies, and is arguably one of the most epic fights. I think two flying colossi is a fair amount - I wish they'd done more with the underground ones (like the worm) or underwater ones.

I really love your work Nomad! Especially anything to do with both the present colossi, and the past colossi. This game is one of my absolute favorite games of all time for being a beautiful, epic, and surprisingly underrated gem of a game. It's an absolute masterpiece! you saw that ..in the monkey image it says "stage:4"?...so he was to be the fourth colossus. maybe the cave where we was going to fight monkey is that 4 "houses" that we need to enter to climb the 4th colossus

i always looked at roc's arena without knowing what it was, but that place, full game or preview version, felt strange and important i did think it could be an arena of some kind but never thought too seriously about it while passing through this area, i randomly climb the save shrine and just look at it it's scary, menacing, yet cool now, it's even cooler it feels bizarre to know this, while it also makes me very happy

People are loving this video, and so am I. Not sure if this is of any significance, but if you reach the place where Malus stands, jump really high, and look at G7, it looks more like an arena/crater than a field.

I have a theory that the monkey might be in Dirges Cave #9 because if it was in Borassan it would be too small to fit so maybe it’s true? Edit Theory:And even i have another theory That it might be in barba’s Cave #6 And i think it’s not in Dirges cave Because there was light and even If you take a look at Barbas cave it’s bigger so maybe this Theory is true?

This is beyond awesome! I know I'm just repeating what other people are saying here, but it's truly amazing you and your friends can still dig up new information from this game. Really appreciate all the effort you guys put into this! It is truly one of the greatest and most mysterious games of all time! I'm just hoping you can one day see the release of "The Last Guardian". I mean, why doesn't someone make a hacked version of this game with the deleted Colossi in them and all the missing arenas added in? Sure it would tak a lot of time and effort, but the textures for those areas are still in the files! And couldn't someone also take the games engine and then finish up the deleted Colossi so they are properly functioning? I could honestly see that happening!

Skyrim music in Shadow of the Colossus? What mad world is this?! Ha but seriously, excellent job loved the video :D on a side note might I add how much I absolutely love this game. The ominous feeling you get traversing the wasteland not knowing when or where that giant colussus will emerge from. Swimming in the lakes not knowing what monstrous creature might be lurking in the deep, yet all the while maintaining a beautiful environment and atmosphere that is all the more enticing to explore, just waiting to stumble across that next behemoth. The puzzle solving and logic thinking to then take down said colossus. What a beautiful and amazing game.

"Spider" is easily my favorite out of the cut colossi. Its design is very distinct and memorable, and it would've shaken up the mundanity of the handful of colossi fights and designs that were similar to each other.

Nomad I have a thing for you to look upon. In the hydrus lair if you jump as the tendril things touch you. You will fall through the water and under the map. And when it happens to me, I saw some stuff in the distance, but because I have no mods or anything, I couldn't explore myself. Idk if it was just my copy is glitchy or what but if you can do it. It may be a good video idea. I also have an idea of ico came before sotc.

nathan yetton Yes, that glitch has been known since the beginning... the stuff you can see in the distance is just some low res areas of other arenas and places in the forbidden lands. They look weird from a distance but when you get up close to them they render into the familiar places we have all seen.

Honestly, SOTC is already perfect, it doesn't need more colossi. Gameplay isn't the purpose in this game, and having more colossi would change SOTC's "message" Besides that....... I would love if the Monkey or the Worm was in it. Good job Nomad, I appreciate your hard work in this game.

All I have left is to show is each colossus before activation, or a video with each colossus cut scene introduction (some of which I've made myself), other I have yet to make. I've also got (nearly) enough new video footage for a new Dirge video. I would like to make the 'Odds & Ends part 6' video but I don't think I have enough stuff to feature... but maybe a dedicated video about the evolution of the Shrine of Worship, that's another idea?

I was very interested in your mystery videos (i.e The Desert rings, Map Clouds) I would love to see more speculation of the lore and how both ICO and Sotc are connected or at least from your perspective? Also has anyone from team ICO seen any of your work? Just curious if they have seen and contacted you about it, they must be amazed?

PreacherThief No, or if they have they have never contacted me. I don't think they know I even exist as Japanese RU-vid is far removed from English RU-vid. In fact, I have searched the Japanese RU-vid channels for SotC videos, but there isn't much stuff about secrets etc. Just the regular playthrough/walkthrough videos. I've tweeted Ueda a few times with a video upload but have never received a reply.

I think Sirius was going to represent like a cheetah to go with the other small, cat-like colossi. Sirius was meant to chase after Wander on horseback, where it'd get stuck in the Stonehenge. Celosia was a tiger, Cenobia was the lion, so in theory, Sirius was going to be the cheetah.

Question, could the spider have instead just been around the wonder freely around the desert area around the bridge? Also could it's 'temple' be located under the entrance temple at the end of the bridge cause that's a pretty flat cliff side if I remember correctly.

***** No because the cliff points to the curved side of the bridge "supports" which means it gives the back to the castle. Long story short it's on the other side of the entrance before this was introduced in the game. Anyway it was probably a really old test area, not a definitive one. Artbook mentions water in its arena, but in every image only a desertic area is shown. Spider was scrapped out very early into development, the map was much different back there. There are not enough elements to judge since he didn't have a definitive location so we can't base our speculations on the beta location where we see it. Moreover the artbook states you discover its weakspots on the legs when you lead it out of water on the land; by that we can deduce they were planning to put it in a definite location near a lake but it was discarded before. I picture something similar to quadratus lair, huge area but still an arena.

Somewhere out there is someone from the original team with all the knowledge or access to all the information about the cut colossi, what the map could've been like to fit them... Never before in my life has a game made me go this crazy for not knowing everything! This game is like an abusive relationship... it's driving me nuts but i'm going to stay regardless.

Great work man. CONGRATS! But i have to say... Im disapointed with this remake. I played on Ps2 and Ps3 this game, i dont want to play the same game again. Wanna do a remake? Ok, but make it as it was ment to be. With 36 collosus in a biiiig map, with more things to see and discover. The game is awesome and one of the best i ever played, but i already played this so many times that i just dont want to do it again. Disapointe, im very disapointed with a simple remake.

It was originally going to have 48 Colossi not 36. Then they knocked that down to 24 and then you take out the 8 unused ones leaving you with 16 Colossi.

It'd be nice if they left the Unused Colossus' dead bodies around the World as Easter Eggs. Like have Monkey's corpse hanging onto the ceiling of Dirge's cave. Or have Spider fallen on the area below the bridge, Hell, maybe even Phoenix's body half-buried looking like a couple of rocks from a distance.

The Spider looked awesome. I love how this game has so many mysteries behind it. Now a release for The Last Guardian has finally been confirmed, we can all experience more of this world. =)
