Shadow of the Colossus: Ending (SotC Gameplay) [PS3] 

Agro's return in the ending always crushes me. It's simultaneously uplifting to know that he survived and crushing that he dragged himself miles and miles with a broken leg to be reunited with the protagonist, who is gone..

I remember when I first played this, turning into a colossus and thinking "Hell yeah! Bring it on now!" Then I noticed these tiny little people were hurting me, and I was just trying to protect something (the girl in this case) and defend my own life, and all the strength and size meant nothing because it was seriously restricting my movement, just turning around was a chore, and I was basically fighting a battle that is impossible to win. It was like a panic. And then I realised that's what all the colossi must have been feeling as I climbed and stabbed them to death.

This ending...There are so few games that would do something like this. It's not so much that your character becomes possessed and destroyed, but the fact that they let you struggle. You can spend a pretty good amount of time fighting the vortex, but your fate is already sealed. It's a perfectly laid out sequence, ahead of you is the girl framed by sunlight at the end of this dark corridor, slipping further away as you realize there's no hope for you. The entire point of your quest, the only thing left for you to focus on, your happy ending is just outside your reach. They could have just made it a cutscene, but it wouldn't have nearly the impact if it wasn't interactive, if that glimmer of hope wasn't dangled in front of you and snatched away. It's a cruel way to end the game, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

the sad thing is that, wander dies thinking that his best friend (the horse) is dead, and believing that the demon didnt hold up his end of the deal. that just seems to make it alot sadder.

Dang, the second I saw aggro's broken leg (the horse) I immediately busted out in tears, seeing as how he survived and managed to get to the shrine in that state must have been so much devotion and loyalty with friendship towards the Wander.

Not many people would kill 16 collosi just to bring one girl back, that's what makes this game amazing: A character that is willing to do anything for someone he cares for. Dormin even said in the opening, "But heed this, the price you pay may be heavy indeed."

The sad part is that you realize how defenseless the colossus is to the humans and makes you feel regret

From that minute 23:00 I started to cry and cried desperately. It was the first time a game made me cry, I didnt even know that was possible. I didnt know that a game could do this with a player. While crying I thought: What's going on? Why am I like this? In fact I was devastated because I knew this whole journey had come to an end. I just have a feeling like this again when I played Journey for the first time.

Owned and played this game for years but finally took the time to play through the whole game this week. I can't even begin to describe how i've fallen in love with every little thing about it. IMO this is seriously the greatest game ever developed story wise.

so,let me get this straight.The Colossi were the PROTECTORS of the land,not the destroyers.

What a heartbreaking story. People in power think for some reason that an innocent girl has a cursed fate, thus they murder her. The guy who loves her thus subsequently reacts to this in his grief by doing whatever he can to resuscitate her, that is by stealing the sword and seeking any help he can get, Dormin. And who the hell can blame him, if my loved one were to be murdered just like that for no good reason I would do absolutely everything in my power to seek justice or any other things within the realm of possibilities as well. As would any person who isn't a coward would do for their loved one. Ironically, by these people in power's actions to try and control everything, it very well led to the very fate they were trying to prevent. Evil is not born, it is gradually made through ignorant, malicious actions that lead to subsequent reactions.

10:38 on is the saddest moment in a game I've ever experienced. All of the time in the wilderness searching, all of the epic battles with these enormous creatures, in order to save your love, reduced down to grasping at the air while being sucked away from the entirety of what you have been striving for. The only thing missing from this video is clinging on to the steps. I must have held on to them for ten minutes trying to brainstorm another way.

Plot twist: Agro the horse is the real main character

Este juego llego a mis manos de pura casualidad, ni siquiera lo compre, me lo presto un amigo al que no le había gustado mucho y se lo pedí para ver que onda, nunca me imagine que me iba a llegar tanto esta obra maestra, que hasta el día de hoy me la guardo en la memoria, toda una experiencia, sin dudas estos son trabajos hechos con mucho esfuerzo y sobre todo mucho corazón.

since there is no true sequel I think I understand the point of it... so Wander (gonna assume he understands the consequences before even entering). goes in, kills those collosi to save his girlfriend. In doing so he endures suffering physically and mentally which pretty much was a lifetime of pain in a short period of time. In saving her, he's transformed into a child. Assuming she understood aggro is his horse and assuming that the symbolism of the horse returning to his master in his crying, his girlfriend must understand that the child is Wander. Taking that into consideration in return of being given life, she must suffer as he had over a period of time... but as a motherly figure. Watching him grow, develop, and change before her eyes in probably a diffrently psychological man than how he originally was and eventually die on her own natural causes and witnessing that same anguish, sorrow, and remorse as Wander felt trying to save her. Now if he was told of who she was he will understand what love is. He was selfish and messed with natural causes, albeit honorable for him sacrificing his life and limb but in the end it was a selfish matter because he longed to have her back as her original form. Now I feel, as a new man grown up, he will comprehend that the love she gave to him, as a child is a powerful thing but requires a sacrifice without selfishness... If the girlfriend was a selfish bitch, she'd leave his baby horned ass in the hole. But no, she seemed to willingly hold him and take care of him knowing his new form is an infant who will only preceive her as a mother. As a new man he'll realize what he had done was wrong, unnatural, albeit brave. Now he can witness the beauty of what nature brought which was not only a new life for him to learn from his past life of mistakes but realize there is a love even more powerful when someone let's nature run their course and endure the pain over time. That's how I see it though, taking those things into consideration. Again kinda opinion.

The ending was kinda sad but my feelings were premature when Wander said to Dormin that it doesn't matter. Oh and probably the most artistic part of the game for me is the time that Mono wakes up! Its so simple, gentle and has a soft glow in it like everything was put in the right moment! You guys catch my drift! :)

this is one of the great examples that video games are art. This will forever be one of my favorite games i've ever had the genuine pleasure of playing.

an overwhelming masterpiece

This is such an amazing story, no matter the pain and the anguish that was faced, It is beautiful about all its many points. The sacrifice, the commitment, the love that is shown in this game, I hate even calling it a game due to its beautiful story line, catching visuals and overall mood to the story. I love this story, it shows what so many writers, storytellers, and lorians have for so long forgotten, and that is the eternal sense that there will not always be a happy ending. good luck :D

Best ps2 game I ever played

this game is the ultimate masterpeice! not only it captivates you being that you had to literally climb on them and use your smarts, but the concept and how it romances you to believe even to the end; it changes how you think upon things and also games of its genre! speechless with a sad ending :(

The architecture throughout the game world looked like the Aztec design. It's quite interesting.

After withstanding physical torment from Malus (The 16th colossus) and then shot in the leg and then stabbed and he still got up. Thus this concludes Wander+Sword&Bow=Badass

Look up the extended version of "All Gone (No Escape)" from The Last of Us 2. Mute this video. 3. When this video hits around 3:45, begin playing the song. 4. Enjoy the synchronicity I did this myself when it was originally posted and holy shit, it worked perfectly.

unbelievable... It's amazing after all these years how this is still capturing peoples imaginations. I wish I could meet Fumita Ueda, so I could shake his hand and tell him Thank You, from all the fans... There are so many people in the world that will never know this great and tragic love story, or never experience this mythical world he created... and will view it merely as a 'video game'... this is art.

I was little when I had this game. Didn't bother reading the story and thought it was all boss fights till today. The story sounds amazing from the comments. Kinda regret spoiling it but now I actually want to get it, somehow.

I love this game so much. This ending was pulled off so well. Really put a cap on a great game. Also, fun fact: at 18:21 those beams of light are from the colossi on the actual map, because the opening and closing cutscenes happen to the west of the map!

For those that don't understand what makes this ending beautiful. It is tragically beautiful. Wanderer went knowing of Dormin's evil. He selfishly put the world at stake because he couldn't see beyond his own desires. That is what made it great, to understand that your selfish actions only caused suffering for everyone. To know that there are things you have to let go of for others sake (Agro is permanently crippled and Momo is alone). That is the ending's message and a great conclusion.

What a beautiful ending to a great game. My opinion is that I can't really fault this game it has everything I like. Such a unique story line. First time playing it in 2013 and im glad because I wouldn't of appreciated it when I was just a kid.

Just played (and beat) this game for the very first time about a week ago, I can't get it out of my head, the ending, the vast empty world which feels so alive, yet so baron at the same time, idk, this game is just something special, one of those rare occurrences where a game becomes more than a game in your mind

Thanks so much for uploading this! I was so excited to get this game when I found it a while back, but the other day I finally got to the final boss (16th) Colossus and had to leave and start the fight all over again, then I started the fight again today hoping there would be no interuption but alas there was I was angry and had to start the fight over a third time. After I got back home I started it again and beat the boss and was watching the cutscene when my game froze -_- I waited about 2 minutes then it unfrozen :D about a minute later it froze again -_- so it wasn't unfreezing this time but the audio clip kept playing on repeat so I hit start to skip the cutscene and the game loaded I was thinking this might work and it freakin took me back to the start menu. I'm not fighting that boss again anytime soon even though I know how to beat him its too tedious

This game was truly amazing. It was made into a masterpiece, sculpted by the work of animators, story writers, and designers.

16 bosses, each crafted with such detail that they felt like real, living, breathing creatures, each of them constituting to entire levels by themselves. A story that asks the player how much can be done for the sake of love and makes you question your actions in the end as you realize you've been committing acts of unspeakable evil just for your own desires. The boy isn't sacrificed in the end... he is punished. Yes, this is art and I'm really sorry that you can't appreciate it.

I watched this again just to make sure i didn't remember something wrong and yep...There's a hugeass thunderstorm at the very end in the original that is COMPLETELY MISSING IN THE REMAKE! My favourite moment from the ending. And it's gone. Honestly i'm a little bit mad and pissed off about that because (outside of Wanders ingame animations and some liberties in world design) the remake nailed the original in tone and atmosphere very respectfully almost to like 95%. I'm okay with Wander being more stiff and all (game doesn't have many cutscenes and you don't see him much upfront) but completely changing the tone at the very end just irks me the wrong way even after my 4th time beating the remake. I really want to know what reasons Bluepoint had to just change that moment when everything else was left untouched.

According to Fumito Ueda, the director of the game, there were only about 30 people that helped to make the game. That fact alone does not cease to amaze me. :O

How the fuck did Agro survive?

Not only did wanderer put his faith and Love and eventually life into rescuing the girl. The love and devotion can also be felt in Aggro. Injured and looking to have a broken leg, hauled himself back to the temple from the distance that would destroy a normal horse. But this horse was not a normal one, he was on the journey with wanderer. With you. I felt the pain as you did and did not fully understand the meaning. But he saw the fur, the might and the blood as you did. But unlike you, the Wanderer, he saw the fruit of this battle. The awakening of the girl. He knew he had a job to do, to fulfill, and he didn’t even let a broken leg stop him from continuing on this journey.

... Then I took an arrow to the knee :)

There IS a connection between the two games, it's just not a direct one. The main character in ICO has horns just like Baby Wander, and the creator's have stated that Wander is the ancestor of all of the horned children. Aside from that, the only other connection is that the beach at the end of ICO is implied to be a beach located in the Forbidden Land. A few people have even manged to reach it via glitches. You can find RU-vid videos of people doing so.

Is The Last Guardian going to be child Wander?

Yes it is, the letter "W" in Wanderer is a consonant and you say "A" before a consonant and you say "AN" before a vocal.
