Since Shadow of the Colossus got a remake/remaster for the PS4, I would love to see Ico get the same treatment. A pipe-dream to be sure, but one can hope.
@gibbdude how would a it tarnish its image? I've seen some folks complain over the new SotC remake and honestly, most of the complaints are petty purist excuses. Ico SHOULD get a remake/remaster! its strange how its the only team Ico game that hasn't made its way to ps4.
@@artorias6321 Bluepoint did a fantastic job with the lighting and graphics, but they fucked up the tone of the game for sure. Whilst the remake was lush, full of foliage, and magical, the original was cold, hostile, and unforgiving. It just felt drier and more alien than the remake, which i was pretty disappointed with. It lost some of the original aesthetic and switched it out for a more AAA-friendly take. They are both incredible in their own ways, but for a remaster, it lost the OG charm
Massive Spoilers & Speculation regarding Ico and SotC When Dormin/Wander fall into the glowing pool, the end result is that all darkness is removed from the person - thus Wander is turned into an infant, the symbol of innocence. He has horns on his head as a mark of sin for entering the forbidden lands and asking Dormin to revive the dead. Its light energy revives Wander, and he is cursed. Its dark energy revives Mono, and she is cursed. Mono, with dark energy eventually becomes the queen.I like to believe that Ico, who loses his horns during the battle with The Queen, atoned for Wander's sins by saving Yorda and killing the Queen - the broken horns a symbol of that freedom. (In SotC: Emon prays that, should Wander be alive, he will one day atone for said sins.)Unfortunately, I also think that the broken horns mean that Ico dies. Yorda, whos spirit is tied to the Queen, also dies. Yorda's last act is one of respect, as she turns into a shadow and the two escape the castle in a boat. The boat they take is symbolic of Greek funerary tradition, the voyage to the beach is the afterlife, as watermelons don't grow on the beach. The curse is over, but Dormin lives on and continues to influence human hearts with their rich content of light and dark energies.
+Stoi Club I don't understand why you say that Ico and Yorda are dead, since we clearly see that they are not after the credits ? +Bill Blass It would make more sense, if we consider Wander to be the first one to have horns, due to him being possessed by Dormin, and that Ico is definitely not the first horned boy to be brought to the Queen's castle.
Doodad Their deaths can’t be ruled out, the beach could be the afterlife, but it’s also identical to a beach in the forbidden lands, suggesting that they are still alive, just that they are in the Forbidden lands, likely where Ico started.
Your playthrough missed the moment that made my heart leap with joy. When I woke up on the beach, I instinctively called out for Yorda when I could not see her. She responds! I had accepted that she was gone, but that small verbal response brought back hope. I ran down that beach calling to her all the way.
This boss isn't very hard but I love it all the same. The atmosphere is great, the song is one of my favorites, and it manages to be fun despite being easy.
Love this game so glad it was a part of my childhood growing up(along with Shadow of the colossus). Also does anyone else feel like the mother/queen in this is the girl the wanderer saves in Shadow of the colossus?
Just Pass'n by dont mind me It actually passes my mind too, but then it came across my mind that maybe that girl was supposed to be the queen but her father/shaman didn't want that and killed her instead, but the shaman's apprentice aka wander wanted to save her. that would only explain the background of SotC though, it doesn't really add up if you pit ICO in that theory
I too think this might be the case. When the shaman turned wander into a boy he unleashed the dark half of dormin into the world with a hOrned boy being born every decade. Mono with only the light part of dormin raised young wander until she could harness what little darkness of dormin he had just like the queen does. She later finds a way to leave/reconstruct the lands and castle and takes every horned boy to harness his part of dark dormin. But with time she get older so she finds a baby girl and gives her most of her light part of dormin to later fully transmit her remaining parts of dormin after she collects all of them and the last being ico himself. Also I believe that the master of the valley in TLG is dormin before SotC.
@@WhiteRescuer at the end of shadow of the colossus, wander is reborn as a horned baby, and I would assume that child grows up to be ico, seeing as how ico wears a similar cloak to wander (I say cloak because I don't know what the double sided cape is actually called)
Wander is the first "boy with horns" to be born/made, but doesn't grow up to become Ico. Ico (the game) is set many many generations after the events of Ico. This is largely backed up by the number of sarcophagi at the start of Ico, from which the spirits/shadows of previous boys with horns come to fight you toward the end of the game. SotC is the start of the "curse" while Ico is the end of the "curse" While there's no solid answer as of yet (if ever), I place The Last Guardian as happening before SotC.
You should show what happens when you get hit by the Queen's attacks--she instantly turns you into stone. It's amazing and adds weight and gravity to the fight, and also explains the statues in her courtyard.
At first I thought it was a great puzzle game, but after the ending I was thinking, "Wait, should this be considered art instead of a game?" Presentation is EVERYTHING. I don't like using the label "underrated", as most people misuse the term a lot, but in this case I'd have to say it is.
That is simply not true. The light & Dark motifs, the HORNED suits of armor, the turquoise & black everywhere, the circle shaped pool in the sarcophagus room, I could go on and on. Or you could just RU-vid “The Last Gaurdian Unified theory”
SoulSabella ico is the sequel to shadows of the collossus. The developers said so themselves. Last gaurdians only connection to either two is that it shares developers from ico and shafows of the collussus, which is why a lot of the digital assests look the same
Im gonna give you my theory. That's not a dream because, first: he was unconscious when dark Yorda placed him on the boat so he wouldn't be aware of said boat, so he couln't picture himself on it reaching a beach. Second, he was still unconscious when he lost the other horn so i believe if that was a dream he would have imagined himself with at least one horn. Third, that's not how the kid would have remembered Yorda, she lost the light that carried with her and we witness her as a normal human being. Also, that's not the after life, you just don't reach the after life by boat cmon. Prove me wrong I dare you xD.
For the most part I agree with you, only part that I disagree is the boat to after life comment. A very famous and old idea for reaching the afterlife is through the river Styx. The boat ride to hell. But other than that, yeah I doubt he could imagine all of that.
Gaetano Baselice Thise first two points are brilliant! People act like just because the developer voiced his INTERPRETATION, that his interpretation is canon.
I have a hypothesis, This is just based on one thing said in game and one thing we’ve seen. So the thing said was by the queen upon her death. “Yorda will never escape this castle.” How she knew that or whether that was a curse of some kind is unclear. But either way it seems like she’s stuck there as it collapses. We also know that these shadow creatures and the queen can travel via these portals. So it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine Yorda doing the same thing. Since the castle collapsed she was no longer bound to it. Almost like the castle escaped her instead. So I’m guessing she portalled out of there before getting crushed by the stone.
Bruh. I never knew you could move the statues..... It took me so long to kill her and get the timing right to run my ass back without getting zapped lmao
I loved Shadow of The Colossus but i never actually played Ico besides the very beginning of it. One thing i can say though is i would be pissed i lost that awesome lightning sword.
This brings back great memories. I remember playing this game and my kids would watch me play and later on they would play the game. I never played The last Guardian. Is it as good as Ico?
I couldn’t finish this game unfortunately but it has one of my favorite stories and friendships in any video game, hopefully I can get back to this one.
As it is presented, they both survive and nothing indicates otherwise. Of course you can choose to believe they're dead if you really want to feel sad for some reason.
@@Shifter-1040ST people really out here force themselves to be sad if they have to. Putting all that work and effort into that instead of putting my fries in the bag XD
I rather believe that it was the next thing that happened when Wander/Dormin died, these merged which created a new life and it was the baby that we see in SOTC, when Mono picked it up and went with Agro to the Secret Garden, Lord Emon himself tells us that if Wander manages to survive or possibly manage to live in the Forbidden Lands his sins will one day be forgiven, when starting a new life obviously the baby is fused Wander/Dormin it is clearer than water and if he says new life it is obvious that he grew up together To Mono, already grown up, surely he had offspring with Mono in some way and that would cause children with horns to be born, which in some way were distributed throughout the world, even outside the forbidden lands, a long time later the events of Ico would happen and this would give to think that Wander died and the only thing that was left was Yorfa, being one of the last daughters he had with Mono and Mono's destiny was to become the dark queen that we see in Ico although it can be perfect. exactly someone else but given the events of SOTC obviously points to Mono possibly, Ico would be a descendant of Wander and Mono since he comes from the same children with horns and being the last to close that cycle by killing the queen and escaping with Yorda like this also allowing Mono to rest in peace together with Wander ❤
I might be alone in this but I love blue points remakes and really hope they remake this forgotten gem the up scaled graphics would really be something especially on the windmill area.
Andrew Shuboy The queen is attempting to live forever through dark magic and sacrifice. She's possed by a dark god named Dormin from Shadow of the Colossus, Team ICO does that stuff all the time. Basically horned children are blamed for all the evil in the world and are sent off the be sacrificed to the queen. The monsters are all dark souls of the previous children the queen has already executed.
jpz719 Yeah I get a lot of that. What I don't get is what happened to Ico and Yorda at the end. Are they even alive? How did Yorda get out of the castle? I know not knowing for sure is part of why this game is awesome, but still...
+Andrew Shuboy They both survived. Yorda can't leave the castle (maybe because of those beams from the towers) but it got destroyed, so she's free now.
Man I remember being like 5 or 6 and having the one of those game disc demo compilation things and this being one of the demos and I never really understood what the hell was going on here I am now 14 years later and just now actually getting to this game wow I missed out on such an amazing game
Imo Yorda dies in The Castle but at the beach she is resurected due the beach is part of The Forbidden Lands from Shadow of the Colossus so it beautifully ends the story of Mono and Wander ^^
why does this always happens in the last guardian Trico lost his tail in shadow of the colossus agro broke her/his leg and wender died i think in Ico the boy lost a half of his horn
*BITCH ALERT I MEAN SPOILER ALERT* Not really since Yolda survives and escapes with Ico while in Shadow of The Colossus Wander falls into the demon realm and only his wife and child survive.
+Doktor Hachi Roku The creator Fumito Ueda said that Ico and SOTC is the same world with different characters and have different titles to fit the plot of the story.
toby horton here's the answer when you get to the extra to your way to yorda you'll see a rock behind of that rock there are watermelon so get one go to yorda and you're finished
BigBoss7777777 Lol, that comment is funny! I heard people giving up Ico mostly because of having a hard time figuring out the puzzle. Button control is the first for me. Anyone can just look up the gameplay if they're stuck.
