Plot twist: Garl is being played by a player in another dimension and you are the boss he's trying to beat.

This is the reason why this is one of the best games, you can literally have like mini histories with captain orcs that you find

After his last fall into the abyss, Garl had been defeated one last time. The Gravewalker falls to his knees, relieved. "Impossible for that undying Orc to come back after that..". Still atop the sentry tower, the Gravewalker feels the weight of the tower shift, wood creak. He turns around, surprised, and spots a ghastly figure in the darkness. The shadow cries out, "Still aliiiiiiive!"

I guess this is how Orc captains feel when they kill Talion for the 18th time.

Legend says that if you stand at a cliff and listen hard, you can still hear his words... "STILL ALIVE!"

I love that he still has the ironskull title, like the other uruks are just like, "ah, there goes garl. He'll be back in a minute, nothing to worry about" "shouldn't we give him a new title? Like 'death-cursed' or something?" "Nah his hat's more noteworthy"

"STILL ALIIIVEEE!!" "What you tought because it's 2021 i would be dead? Hah, i will come back every year!"

(Turns off game and shuts down PC) But in the dark corner of your room you hear the words "STILL ALIVE!" You cower in fear as you see Garl exit from the darkness. He was about to start a monologue when he trips on a wire and falls straight out your window You have a feeling he is dead but deep down you know and you will always know that he is still alive

I've got an orc called grible, he only says WEE WOO and has died several times but always comes back. He remains loyal after each death. I love you, big wee woo man.

I think I met him a couple times already. One persistent character that. Love how he keeps coming back. These guys are too funny. Giving all kind of chats still when getting beaten to a frazzle and even when dying to boot. Gotta love em.

If you're wondering why he retreats so often, it's because he's a trickster so he leads you into an ambush and disappears. The only reason you never found out was because he had no chance to run. The easy way to tell if it's a fake or not is if they become broken or not. Captains retreating in terror will be broken regardless of their hp, tricksters will not.

_Garl may never win, but he_ can _lose. Again, and again, and again, and again, forever. And that makes you_ his _prisoner._

I love how he's so used to being thrown off ledges by you. "Another time ranger..."

He didn't have the 'cheat death' ability, he had the 'bouncy' ability

had an orc named shaka the unkillable. he lived up to his name and followed me from cirith ungol to lithlad, killed him more than 5 times till i finally recruited him for my final siege mission. good times 😁

He's like Team Rocket! Annoyingly persistent yet pitiable. He's even got the catchphrase down!

"Another time, ranger, if you last that long!" As he was toppling off a cliff. Even he knew it wouldn't be enough.

Cheats death so much I am surprised he is not legendary at this point.

*Kills Garl* Talion: Now will you please stay dead? Garl: No, I don’t think I will.

Garl is like playing imaginary fights with another kid but he can always "dodge" your attacks or if you have a gun then he has a bullet proof potion.

I had a rival orc on shadow of Mordor named Pash the Immovable. He was the highest level orc I had run into when I first played the game. He clapped me twice, and I stayed as far away from him as I could until I got stronger. Well, I gained some intel on him and found out he could be insta killed by stealth. So I went back and killed him, it was great! Next thing I know he comes back still very much alive with a few more scars. I fought him again, this time burning him to a crisp and shanking him to death. He comes back AGAIN with cloth wrapped around his head, only this time he had worked his way up to war chief. I was pretty proud of him to be honest. Long story short, I fought him one last time, (our 5th time fighting each other) and cut his head off, keeping him down for good. One of the coolest things I’ve ever experienced in a video game.

Many decades later, Claym Morez dies peacefully, having lived a fulfilling life. Family and friends gather to mourn, when suddenly: "STILL ALIVE!"

I had this same problem, but with like 3 orcs who refused to die no matter how hard I tried, and they were some of the first orchestra I fought and yet somehow one of them still lives after years of putting him through turmoil

I had one like this from the first game. He adapted to ALL weaknesses and be was invincible. I used my captains on a story mission and murdered then all single handedly

3:44 dies from the fall "Maybe next time ranger!" He already knew he was coming back.

To come back so many times that you end up repeating dialog that's intense

Each time you throw him all I can think of is, “team still alive is blasting off again!!!!!!!!”

I once had an orc called "The Machine" that I, no fucking joke, had to have killed a minimum of 40 times. I could not escape. I was beginning to think i was in some infinite time loop. Every second of every play session I feared he'd be around the next corner. To this day my biggest fear is booting up Shadow of War and hearing that painfully familiar "HELLO PINK SKIN, DID YOU MISS ME".

I had a ork do this to me once, his name was throg the tark slayer, and he was a regular ork that killed me around the beginning of my first playthrough, and ended up coming back to life on multiple occasions and followed me until the last fortress I had to take over, and ironically he was the overlord of the last fortress, that's what I call dedication.

And this, is precisely why middle earth series is so good. Its system make every story unique, and it feels a lot like an actual active world than just a game.

i have an orc like this but his name is grum the ancient one. hes a mystic. has ancient look to match his name. hes insane. always screams "let me rest, wheres my rest" legendary mystic assassin. sadly he sucks in every fight, and ive decapitated him myself and he always comes back. captured him. sometimes im just roaming and hell appear after i watched him die and be like "WHERES MY REST" but he never betrays me. just comes outta no where and screams at me after death and i order him to retreat.

This hapend to me. He was a maniac that got enraged by everything, was fire proof , enraged by frezze, poison proof, arrow proof and execucion proof. Sorry for my english

watching this in 2022 and just been playing this game for the first time. Now Im hunted by "STILL ALIVE" in every turn of the game. Damn you Garl! 😅😅

I had an orc like this in Shadow of Mordor, he was an ordinary orc that got the finishing blow on me and was promoted to captain, I killed him, he came back with only one eye, killed him again, he comes back with a patch on his neck, he gets promoted to Veteran, kill him again, he comes back with a sack on his head, killed him again, he comes back with a peg-leg, then he's finally promoted to Warchief, and I killed him permanently. Final kill count- 13

I've been playing this game for 300 hours and I didn't ever think to throw people off edgey

The way he spoke during the first cheated death scene reminded me of Michale Caine's Alfred for some reason.

I got the game recently and i got an orc called “Mogg the Survivor” which is the same as well, but he came back pretty strong on like his 5th time. He was arrow proof, fire proof, poison proof, immune to curse, frost proof and beast proof. Interesting fight i guess i could say

accidentally, this orc in my game has also become the maniac one and disturbed every single boss fight in the map... that's freaking scary

I had same situation in Minas Ithil, there was an orc named "Zuka" and after i killed him he always were coming back but called "Zuka the machine" and with weird metal in his whole body but once i finished the necromancer questline he finally had some peace. He was also saying that I'm the one that created the machine by killing him and that he can't be killed.

"You're sick! And you deserve pain!" He's right and that applies to all the shadow of mordor/war players. The things we've done to them...fight your blood brother in the pit for my amusement? Yep.

I had a similar experience with an assassin who just kept coming back from the dead over and over, but his one weakness that he always had was being able to be 1 hit killed by an arrow headshot. It was so funny because he'd just keep showing up while I was fighting other orcs and just get domed and then I'd go back to what I was doing before.

I killed my Nem 25 times and he keeps coming back, I've tried beheading him but I never can.. He's my Legendary bodyguard now. I gave up lol.

And at the end... Somewhere from the darkest recesses of this depth a cry is heard... "Still alive!"

This was me with the first Boss Orc you meet, he came back 12 times before FINALLY dying for good

I had this problem in the first game, schadow of mordor. I've killed an ork smth around 5 times and he always came back. He even came on the last island as one of the final bosses.

The one thing of the multitude of others I love about this game is how some can still come back even after cutting their heads off

I very much like his voice the second time you meet his voice is in a very explaining way like “now that does not mean you have killed me as you can see I am not dead”

It’s crazy I just started playing this game it’s still so amazing!

I need to get back into this game. When I played Shadow of Mordor, the very first guy to kill me (I don’t recall his name, but he was a poison archer) resurrected every time I killed him. And I hunted him down the first time, to avenge my death, but he would not stay dead. And then when I launched my raid on the Hand of Sauron, that same orc was their top captain. I can’t help but wonder if they designed a little detail to make a specific orc your “rival”…

I played Shadow of Mordor recently and I had an Orc, who came back 4 times, he always tried retreating too. Edit: OMG!!! I bought Shadow of War, and I encountered the same Orc from the previous game in the arena mission. He said something like "It's been a long time since we met, and a long way from here"

I had a character in nurnen simply named, Flak Crush, his vocabulary only consisted of: "Crush, Crusher, Crushed, Crushes". He was with me when I first entered nurned. When I met him he ambushed me and it said he had cheated death, I don't remember killing him so I assume he was killed by a captain. I recruited him and that started our adventure. He saved me numerous times by defending me from enemies and even saved me from getting executed by a captain with no chance. When Bruz betrayed me he got captured by him, I rescued him and 2 other captains and we went to attack Bruz. I lost 2 great captains then, but not Flak. I ordered him to retreat so he wouldn't die. Eventually we get to that part where you have that epic siege on that bridge when you lose the bright lord. He was there and was destroying grunts and I distinctly remember him picking up a grunt and he threw him on the ground and the grunt died and he said "CRUSHED". I pimped him out with training orders and he became legendary, had a cursed weapon, and a gang. Here is the sad part, I was defending nurnen in shadow wars and he was bleeding out and I couldn't get to him because I was getting my ass handed to me and if I left we would've lost the objective eventually I had the ability to run and try to save him, I got poisoned along the way so I couldn't focus run. I arrived too late and he bled out. Eventually he comes back with a iron mask to serve me again. He was a higher level so he was more reliable. We were out wandering nurnen and there's a rebellion of 5 of my captains, a graug, a bunch of grunts, 4 caragors, and 3 enemy captains. We were getting raped but we battled, I called in a graug and the most epic fight ensued. I took out 4 of my traitor captains and 1 of the enemy captains, all the caragors and a bunch of grunts. But, flak got killed by an enemy captain. His final words were, "Crusher..... crushed......". I actually raged and annihilated everyone by myself. I'm not the kind of guy to get attached to a character but I did, ask the captains I killed to avenge him EDIT: the saddest thing happened, I was doing the Carnan quests and I was doing the mission where you're in minas morgul and there he was, resurrected. We locked eyes as talion stared in disbelief as his old friend, the one he conquered mordor with was right there, but unable to say a word.

I had the same thing happen in the beginning of my first play through his name was hogrish the survivor missing an arm a leg had metal keep the two halves of his body together and a metal mask. He only popped up when I was fighting my three main nemesis that had dominated me early on. I was kinda sad to see he didn’t come back when I was playing the necromancy mission where your old enemy’s from before Suaron won are resurrected in the arena and he was there… :(
