In 1968 the National Geographic magazine had two articles collectively titled "Coronations a World Apart" One was about the Shah, and the other was about the coronation of the King of Tonga, in the South Pacific. One a big flashy ceremony, the other smaller and I think happier. One monarachy is still there. The glory or wordly splendor passes quickly.
@pedddler
@pedddler 2 года назад
Iran has had a history of 2500 years of kingdom. So it is natural for an Iranian king to have his coronation ceremony to be big and flashy. Specially this particular King who chose to have his coronation at a time (1967) when thanks to him and his government, Iran had become a growing country in terms of eceonomy and culture. He officially became the King in 1941 at the age of 21 when Iran was in turmoil, but chose not to get crowned until Iran had become stable. And that happened during this clip in 1967.

What memories of western enforced fascism after overthrowing the democratically elected leader. Worked out very well, as it usually does.
@raminpahlevan8728
@raminpahlevan8728 Год назад
@@Yoseman1 First, the Shah was not a fascist. Second, the Pahlavi Dynasty has done more good for Iran than any dynasty, apart from the Achaemenid Dynasty. Third, the Shah wasn’t a western puppet. He had is own foreign policy, and was seen by the west as a troublesome ally. Remember when he raised oil prices in the 70s that crippled the western economies. Fourth, life under the Shah was much better than life under Khomeini, and his successors. We had better job opportunities, our economy was booming, standard of living was rising, poverty was decreasing, and we were predicted to be a First World Country in a generations. Fifth, Mosaddegh, as much as I like his policies, was still very authoritarian. He made parliament give him emergency powers to rule by decree for 6 months and extended it by another 12 months. He suspended elections as soon as he had a majority. The Shah wasn’t as bad as the regime propaganda tells us.
@Yoseman1
@Yoseman1 Год назад
@@raminpahlevan8728 Stop it. The Shah had no problem replacing a democratically elected leader, and had no problem never allowing the public to vote again. Further, he had murder squads and no Due Process in his court system. That is indeed a fascist, no matter what you say. He was one of the worst people of the 20th century, period.
@raminpahlevan8728
@raminpahlevan8728 Год назад
@@Yoseman1 I am not saying that the Shah was perfect, but you are not looking at it from a nuanced perspective. The democratic leader that the Shah replaced was just as authoritarian as him. He allowed people to vote, though still maintained control of the government. His deaths squads killed only a couple hundred to maybe a thousand people, which is bad but no where compared to the current regime, or any of the other regimes of the 20th century. Under, the Shah’s reign the standard of living was improving, and we had friendly relations with our neighbours. He was not one of the worst person of the 20th century. The Shah wasn’t a good person, but he is not as bad as you say he is. Also, not all authoritarian’s are fascist.

The same with you guys . 90% of you have never seen Iran or you were children when you were brought here and have no idea about what is going on in Iran . Just like the Christians everything you know about shah and Iran is from your parents who raised you with their side of the story . Pahlavi regime can be summed up in two statements. A) after 56 years of ruling Iran , in 1979 when he left 80% of the nation didn’t have water and power. B) global literacy rate in 1979 was 69%. The literacy rate in Iran was 37%, like Zaire and Congo. To educated people who really care about Iran this should be enough to know that pahlavi regime was a stain of shame on our history . Reza shah wasn’t even Iranian and couldn’t speak or write Farsi . He was a Cossack and that is why you never see him make a speech or hold an interview. Google pictures of Reza shah and click on the images and see him in his Cossack uniform . Also google pictures of Ataturk and you will see that both had the same uniform and Ataturk’s parents were Albanian and he was born in Greece . England installed them both in Iran and turkey .

Common man! 80% of people didn't have water and power? Reza shah couldn't speak Persian? He wants Iranian? Your basically such a lier or your brain washed. Pahlavi wasn't great but Iran wasn't comparable when they left Iran with what it was when Reza Shah took over. I don't have any time to waste talking with you and I truly don't care about what you say or you think. Every one can search and see the facts. But a big question is here: what has Islamic revelation brought for us? Poverty, Dictatorships, Economical crisis and… Pahlavi ended 43 years ago, if it was such a disaster you propaganda agents of the current regimen didn't have to try so hard. People have shown what they think with their chantings all over Iran in the protesting of the last two_three years.

K. and an unexperienced and a nation that wanted to follow the democratic habits without having the readiness or a social and political structure to once exercise what is democratically approved and unfortunately the movement was taken advantage of by Shi'a Clerics. Fascinating the twists and turns of history. In the early 1900's oil was discovered by the Britain and the USA in Iran and Arabia. Britain's trade was sea-based and her ships shifted to oil power rather than coal for efficiency. Simultaneously the auto industry was expanding. After that oil was indispensable hence the formation of the British American Oil Company, now BP and the rise of the Middle East as an energy source. The West has squandered this vital relationship through green arrogance and will regret it.

@article1372
@article1372 2 года назад
this is such an inaccurate take it is ridiculous. Mossadegh was not democratic, neither was he in anyway shape or form pushing for democracy. He was a wannabe dictator who abused the Parliament, and went around the constitution. He also held illegal and tampered "referendums" to show that "people didn't want this system", essentially rigging the referendum. Before this happened Iran was pushing towards nationalization anyways and had just negotiated a 50% rights to profit in addition to free and extensive education of engineers and specialists, something that Iran DESPERATELY lacked. The previous PM was assassinated (General Razmara), and the terrorist was praised by Mossadegh and bailed out of prison. Then Mossadegh paid him monthly out of the government's pockets until he was sentenced to death. The so called referendum was regulated, monitored, and counted by Mossadegh's government, which itself was compromised of many of his relative that were put to power because of nepotism. Not only that, but the ballot boxes for "yes" and "no" votes were separated not only by box, but BY LOCATION. meaning that many saw who voted no, because for example location #1 only has the "no" ballot boxes for the answer to "Do you want to get rid of the monarchy". In addition, Mossadegh wasn't deposed. according to the constitution of Iran, which was established by the people after the constitutional revolution of Iran (1905-1911), the king can at any time, for any reason, change the prime minister, meaning that he has to give up his PM seat, and return to the Parliament as a member. Afterwards, the leading party (or coalition) may choose another member to be a candidate. It is also worth noting that he was taken off as a prime minister before, and nothing happened then. He was nominated later on and selected with no issues. Such a surface level knowledge only resembles lies told by Regime cronies
