A new ballet production of Romeo and Juliet, choreographed by German star Sasha Waltz, is to be performed at the Opera Bastille in Paris, and broadcast simultaneously to more than 150 theatres around Europe.
Here in Bali, Rehane Abrahams - of South African origin -- is the angel who has not only become our island's resident, but has also graced us with tastes of Shakespeare and other outstanding dramatists since 2009. Following her mesmerizing and unique production of "Midsummer Night's Dream', she will bring "The Scottish Play" - MacBeth to Bali on the 24th, 26th and 27th of May 2012.
For the theatre-starved in Bali, Rehane's FireFly Theatre productions are a much loved and anxiously awaited cultural event.Her works are often performed during the Ubud Readers and Writers Festival and mostly take place every year at the religious and artistic town of Ubud, Bali... Rehane's current home base. Bali ToDay had a chance to talk to Rehane and take a sneak peek during the rehearsal of her previous production, "Conference of The Birds", created by Farid Uddin Attar - an Iranian sufi poet - who lived between 1145 -- 1220.Watching this episode reminds us all that even being an actor in Bali breaks the mold of having to work in stuffy, dark theatres with screaming directors.
