There might not be a deep message to the lyrics here, however the video is filled with references to the barranquilla's carnival .... (One of the biggest festivals in Colombia that takes places in shakira´s home town) ... with this vid she shares part of her culture and joy to the world :) I would also enjoy very much the reverse version of this video with Wyclef moving his hips... that would be hilarious
Yes! This video is really important because it represents our Caribbean Colombian culture. Also the song samples a salsa (i think) song that is very popular here.
Also, it's one of the rare songs/videos that are sexual that include the perspective and lyrics from both the man and the woman. It's not just a song from some dude about hundreds of women shaking their a$$es. It's a song about a guy and a woman who are into each other.
ironically... "She enjoyed singing for schoolmates and teachers (and even the nuns) at her Catholic school, but in second grade, she was rejected for the school choir because her vibrato was too strong. The music teacher told her that she sounded "like a goat" (Wikipedia)
here Is it a recent interview, Shakira is Telling the story, where the classmates Made fun of her ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nIJEuifB9MQ.html
Mauricio Sagir Barahona Pari - thought it would be interesting for him to compare one of her earliest songs with some of her later material to show the development/growth. Would be happy with Objection too - which was my favourite from LS
Hips Don't Lie is the best sold single of the last decade worldwide and it broke the record for the most radio plays in a single week--besides also being the fastest selling digital download song in the United States.
You never heard that song before??? Lol. That's the most played song in radios of the first decade from 2000's. #1 in 55 countries and the most selling single of 2006 worldwide. ❤️❤️ Your reactions are the best!
To enjoy more of her voice, go for a song like "No", the official video, or the live version in her channel. Great reaction! Hips don't Lie it's indeed a fun song, with a lot of winks to Colombians (the flag in the background when she's sitting, or the imitation of Carnaval de Barraquilla and cumbia dancing).
OMG this song reminds me so much memories I mean it was everywhere when I was younger and it such a great song ! Yes normally i'm under your Lady Gaga's reaction but Shakira is a great artist too ahah amazing reaction as always !
I've seen some vocal coaches reacing to her voice, and some they say that she sings with her throat, some of them called "throaty" tone. Most professionals don't like the way she sings, but I like it.
I think it's because vocal teachers focus on the best way to achieve a note without hurting vocal cords or a vocal muscle. I guess Shakira doesn't care that much about that. I prefer her voice, it's so unique. We have tons of pop singers with similar clean voices
@@EUROVISIONYC yeah, I totally agree. And I didn't get mad when I heard them talking about her voice. I understood their point. Yes, her voice is amazing for me.
This song is actually a remix to Wyclef Jean's "Dance Like This" with Claudette Ortiz. It was the soundtrack to Dirty Dancing 2. You should check it out. Sadly the song didn't do well until Shakira became a part of it.
Yup thats the truth, Wyclef is actually the main writer and producer of the song...he wrote Hips Dont Lie 2 years prior to Shakira...Wyclef is a genius when it comes to producing hit songs
Her voice: " INEVITABLE MTV Unplugged" and " Estoy aquí" MTV Unplugged. She has already made lots of " no hips" songs through the years. I guess you just happen to know this side of her which is a pity since she is a multifacetical artist. As I told you in previous comments to previous reactions, she is a rocker at heart and her begginnings were in Rock music. She has explored all her potential throughout her career, you just need to do some research. No fighting...
Please react to “No” the guitar on that song it’s one of the most interesting melodies on her entire catalog, and it’s played by one of Latin America’s greatest artist: Gustavo Ceratti
How old is the guy that he's reacting / listening to Hips Don't Lie for the very first time. It was the most sold song worldwide in 2006. How can there be people who don't know it?
Saw Shak on her El Dorado tour. She’s a great entertainer. What I love about her is that she’s half Colombian and half Lebanese which is why I think she has a unique way with lyrics.
Hola... Thx for this reaction video, that song and the video mean so much for us, Colombian culture: rhythms, dancing, etc. Btw it's nice to know that you enjoyed a song of hers once again. 😊 Here another colombian guys expecting for another reaction video of Shk. Saludos.!!
The song "Hips don't lie" is a cultural statement where Shakira uses the interest they have in her body and her dance to take them to a different culture, the Afro-Colombian one where the body is the means of communication through dance... The female body is always converted into a desirable object, however she uses it to turn it into a bridge... Shakira decontextualizes the object body and turns it into a bridge towards Latin, Afro-Colombian, Caribbean culture... A while ago tribute to his land, to the carnival of Barranquilla, a cultural festival of his Colombian roots and makes the world dance... The simplicity of the language but it contains two sociocultural phenomena, the body is an object but it is a means of communication and the interest you have in it I use it so that you know another culture, another use of the body that is what she has done in her artistic career Your body is another means of communicating and transmitting...
Shakira said her hips don't lie because while making a dance song if her hips don't move she knows sth is wrong with the song and sth is not working 😂 so her hips really don't lie, she has got some pretty amazing dance and workout songs. Jersh plz check out her "no,live" and "ojos asi, live" from oral fixation tour , you won't be disappointed 😉
It’s not only a song about how good is she dance , is this song from the best-selling song of 2006 and the best-selling song of the past decade. this song in a mix of many sounds including cumbia which is the representative rhythm of your country Colombia also represents one of the most important carnivals in the world the Barranquilla carnival.. The majority of the costumes and outfits featured in the video belong to the Carnaval de Barranquilla, some of which include the white dress Shakira dances in, and the colorful flags. It is a song that represents all Latino and migrants since it has a very powerful message, if you read all the lyrics you will realize
Agree with the Suggestions for CANT REMEMBER TO FORGET YOU (2014) - Maybe introduce you to a bit of RIHANNA, also Shakira's duet with BEYONCE - BEAUTIFUL LIAR (2007). Actually the match up of Shakira and Wyclef here is reminding me a little bit of some of the FERGIE era BLACK EYED PEAS songs (2003-2011). If you haven't heard them already, Some Starters WHERE IS THE LOVE, SHUT UP, LETS GET IT STARTED, DON'T PHUNK WITH MY HEART, MY HUMPS, PUMP IT, BOOM BOOM POW.
SHE IS FROM BARRANQUILLA COLOMBIA AND SHE SAID IN SPANISH IN BARRANQUILLA WE DANCE THIS WAY IF YOU DOUBT IT SEE KAROL G FT SHAKIRA SONG TQG BOTH FROM COLOMBIA !!!!
omg why did i just notice that camila cabello is rEALLY inspired by shakira, the fact that they say señorita, the set where the man is looks the same as shawn in the señorita video omgggggg
i LOVED shakira and J-los perfomance on superbowl. If you are not that familiar with their songs and latin culture you probably should check out more of their songs a bit first and read up about the cultural references shown at that show. I did not know half of the references as I live in norway and have little knowledge about mexican culture other than what is most wellknown, so I got so much more out of the show when I read a little first.
When you said at the end you would’ve liked a “hipless” video or an unexpected video, my mind immediately went to the Spice Girls doing a dark themed video for a song called “Spice Up Your Life”, now, you should react to that video!
And as far as more Shakira, try "How do you do." This is one a criticism of God. Pretty interesting theological take on her part. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kQxc9MCu544.html
No! You're wrong. Is not a criticism of God. She's questioning God the things she doesn't understand about this reality. Like why people kill and hurt in God's name, and asking God how he feels about men's wrong doings etc. She's not shaming or criticizing anyone. She is wondering.
It's one of the rare songs/videos that are sexual that include the perspective and lyrics from both the man and the woman. It's not just a song from some dude about hundreds of women shaking their a$$es. It's a song about a guy and a woman who are into each other.

Please react to Underneath Your Clothes by Shakira.
This is one of her most popular songs. She also did a song with Rihanna called • “Can’t Remember To Forget You” And a video with Beyoncé called “beautiful liar”
The video is a reference to a carnival of Colombia in Barranquilla she is from there and is very colorful and had a lot of characters this was is biggest hit ! This was the begging of his English career and was the separation of the rock and pop Shakira, Also for this song stared the moves of the hips and that became in something that is a characteristic in shak React to " Ojos así " and search the lirycs in English not in the translator
Love these reactions! I would recommend her live performances, especially those from her "Live & Off The Record" or "Oral Fixation Tour" live albums. 🥰
It would be interesting to know your opinion about some underrated Shakira songs like "Timor", "Ready for the good times", "Illegal" or "Men in this town" and some of her greatest songs in Spanish like "Te necesito", "Hay amores", "Octavo día" or "Antología"..your reactions are great!
That's the vibrato of her voice , her vibrato is so pronounced and quick which is not for everyone , some people don't like the way she sounds , plz react to shakira more
Her dancing is on another level in Do It Again. If you want to know the slow-song version of Shakira, check out Underneath Your Clothes, Empire, Illegal
Nice review and reaction. But if she’s talking about hips in the song, this was a hit back then. Reminder that you’re reacting to a song from many years ago. And her dancing in this video was already surprising at that time.
