I'm 34 and I've been in Love with Shakira since middle school. Not just her looks, but her talent and personality. It's also extremely annoying that she's almost 50 now and I look way older than her. Also, if you're a fanboi, it's pronounced wai-clef no wee-clef. Also, a lot of her dances are middle eastern because she is part Lebanese.

The song is actually a rework of a song called “dance like this” by wyclef & Claudette Ortiz from the dirty dancing 2 soundtrack. The horn intro is a sample from a latin song by Jerry Rivera called Amores Como El Nuestro. Jerry Rivera actually tried to sue Shakira & Wyclef for using that sample however even though he was the singer on the original he wasn’t the writer of the song & it was the writer who allowed Shakira & Wyclef to use it, as I understand it.

They did two more songs together Spy which was Shakira's album and The Border which was not officially released. This song is one of the best selling songs of 2000s, they even did a remix for 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Colombian national rithms are eclectic as they mix a lot of rithms from around the world

Colombia is probably in the top 5 western hemisphere countries with black African descent population, which is the reason the dance moves are very familiar.

This song's written by Shakira, Wyclef and a couple others, including Omar Alfanno who has writing credits cause the horns and clarinet sample you hear in "Hips Don't Lie" come from a song he wrote called "Amores como el Nuestro" sung by Jerry Rivera from 1992. It's produced by Shakira, Wyclef and a couple others. Btw Shakira produces and writes all of her songs, she even did the cumbia arrangement for this song.

colombia like most of latin america has a heavy african influence because of the slave trade so that’s why the dances look african. i’m puerto rican and you can definitely see it in our culture as well.

What is nice is watching him work really hard to analyze the music while trying to not focus on the very attractive woman dancing like she knows exactly what she is doing and is loving it. I mean, he's noticing, but god he is trying hard. I love her music so I've watched a few guys react to this and he is the first that doesn't just sit there like he has been hit with a brick, staring and mouth open. Shakira IS sex walking (well, shaking in this) but her music often gets overlooked for the more, ah, ~aesthetic~ shall we say (lol) aspects. She really DOES make a person want to learn Spanish. Shakira is from a region in Colombia where there are a lot of Lebanese immigrants. Her father was Lebanese, and she learned Arabic belly-dance which she incorporates in most of her acts.

She started off as a belly dancer before she became a musician. She dances in a fairly unique way for a pop star lol.

When They sing "You move like you come from Colombia", the music sounds like a native Colombian Rythem called :CUMBIA". Also, why Shakira sounds so unique is because even though she is Colombian, Her ancestry comes from the middle east. Hence, she apply some arabian singing techniques. I believe that she does this to honor her arab culture. She does this even in songs in Spanish.

Latin American countries have a lot of African influences dating back from colonial times. Lots of African slaves arrived there and since then and as we abolished slavery before for example the US the cultures and people intermixed a lot more. So many dances, other arts and food have a deep African influence. In general people of African descent don't have a separate culture than everyone else as in the US. At least not in my country and not that I know of in Colombia either. Shakira in this video is dancing Cumbia and yup it is a very Colombian lol dance.
