I might have just stumbled upon the most beneficial Shakuhachi playing instructions so far. I'm trying to learn the Shakuhachi through RU-vid, I bought a 1.9 Yuu flute from Japan as my first "real" flute. Up until now I played Kan by squishing the flute as hard as I can into my chin, and then making a very thin mouth opening and blowing very intensely, so the speed\pressure of the air made me transition into the higher octave. Many teachers online also mention that it's all about pressure and making the mouth opening thinner, rarely mentioning the angle. After watching this, I just bring my upper lip very slightly forward, and the transition from Otsu to Kan is much easier! Thank you sir, this angle changing approach is extremely effective!
