I can see why they took these scenes out. The way Hal is being treated within them is a bit harsh. Thus it actually makes everyone else a bit unlikeable and distant from the audience. Also, the part where he runs away from Rosemary in disgust once he sees her true form is heartbreaking. Not to mention contradictory of his character arc
They should have kept the scene where Hal sucker punches Maricio. It showed how much he cared for Rosemary and that it didn’t matter to him what her figure was. It was her personality that won Hal over, and he learned what true perfection is. When it comes to love, it’s all about chemistry with one another.
The scene that ends at 9:17 adds value for me by laying out the message straight. This was a period of realization that I always felt was underwhelming. He needed to have this discussion out loud and settle things with his friend.
Good edits out. Most all of these scenes conflict with the character arcs. Mauricio still calling Rosemary a fat slob so close to the film end, and then treating her with respect at the farewell party would be....weird. As would Hal looking at the real Rosemary, viewing her as a pig, being so repulsed to run from her, then saying she's so beautiful when they reconcile. Or asking Jill out to prove that he's got it, shutting her down to prove he's in control, then accepting her dinner invite just because she opened the door again. Sometimes you've got to cut out laugh gags that are funny in isolation to actually make a cohesive story.
They should've that was literally a real serious moment! Hal was being very serious about Rosemary right there. I think the creators didn't want this movie to be on edge in the middle of it
i dont think he got fired , but i have to watch it again, i watch alot of scenes so , i do remember him getting dissed on a project or something, ill check it out again, thanks for watching, are you a lawyer :) lol
@@ghostsofVTurbexSkysthelimitvid you do t have to be Johnny Corcoran to know that lol if Hal didn’t get fired it would have been impossible to maintain a professional relationship with his boss, Rosemary’s dad, who promoted him to an executive under his immediate supervision because he considered Hal honest, after he told him off for what he perceived as him using Rosemary as a stepping stone to advance at work. However at the end when Hal rekindles with Rosemary mr shamahan tells Rosemary to “look after me lad” so it is safe to bet he hires Hal back after he returns from the peace corpse westher he previously fired him or Hal quit to go overseas with Rosemary
@@leerogish7223 wow, you know this movie , i watched it years ago, but really forgot, i watch so many that its like i prioritize them, action usually comes first, but this was a good one from what i remember.
@@91Definite agreed. Steve would have had all the justification in the world for doing so too. I’m pretty sure he happily rehired Hal after he returned for the peace corps tho.
I felt the scene where Mauricio confronts Hal about finding Tony and Hal expressing to Mauricio that he really have deep feelings for her despite how she looked? Was a good scene in my opinion, they should’ve kept that. But I guess they didn’t have enough time. The other scenes are okay but they didn’t fit 💯! Mauricio should’ve let Hal be happy despite if he wasn’t around like that.
It looks like it. As unprofessional as that would seem it would hold up in court since it was a behind closed door promotion based on Hal’s sincerity and directness. All Steve would have to say is that he can no longer work with Hal professionally and that he has reason to second guess promoting Hal since he wasn’t as honest or upfront as he originally thought.
@@leerogish7223 The father could fully admit in court that he fired Hal over the breakup and it would still be perfectly legal. “Children’s significant others” is not a protected class under the EEO act.
@@matt2522 Hal had worked for the company at least 5 years and was by all accounts a good hardworking employee so firing him outright over using rosemary to advance then cheating on her would be hard to justify in court. HR would strongly warn steve against it. Demoting him back to his original job would be much more justifiable.
@@leerogish7223 That’s incorrect, though. It wouldn’t even need to be defended in court. It wouldn’t even make it to court. It wouldn’t make it past the complaint phase. You’re absolutely allowed to fire people for any reason other than being a protected class under the EEO act. You can outright fire someone for dating your daughter, it’s perfectly legal. You *cannot* fire them outright for being a minority, for being gay, etc. HR might advise against firing someone for dating your daughter, but for PR reasons-not out of fear of legal peril. The employee wouldn’t stand a chance in court. I work in employment law, trust me.
@@matt2522 regardless it’s possible Hal might not have even wanted to keep working at JPS and may have simply quit on his own because he felt bad about how things went with Rosemary and didn’t want to be around her father anymore. Besides if he stayed his chances of ever advancing in the company are now nonexistent.
Even though Jack Black plays in this movie as a non pretty boy or a great scorer with ladies and very successful or rich or supermodel, but a ordinary guy who works at an office and typically has a boss like Steve Shannihan.Wants a beautiful woman to date and dance with. Theyre too young for him.The actor himself here was somehow to me was attractive then and watching this movie now too.
That maybe why Hal tells Walter to break it off and the girl is not right for him after seeing Tanya as a old lady while Hal was under Tony's hypnotize.
@@jona2979Tanya was the opposite of the other women Hal seen during the hypnosis. The old lady represents Tamya being ugly on the inside and the young and hot represents her being beautiful on the outside.
