I loved Sham 69. I had all their LPs up to 'The Game.' But here Jimmy comes across like the world's most misunderstood man!

Sham is just such a great band. I remember when I first heard “Borstal Breakout” on a comp and ran out to the shoppes and loaded up on Sham. That one song truly made a lifelong fan

Janet says the original skinhead started in the early 70s? 1969 surely, with Jamaican music, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff etc?

Yes. My older Brother was a skin back in late 60s early 70s, he listened to prince buster , all the ska stuff , great clothes.

Around the 20 minute mark the ex original Skin says you can't bring a era back but like now when you have ex 60 year olds dressing like Skins again or young people dressing like Skins esp in Europe and America as he is right about now and the last 20 years as it's a era thing BUT the late 70's-early 80's and even the 80s Scooter Scene was a magical time for Youth Cults be it new and old like the Teds and Mods Revival.

Came out of Mod. Look at those blokes at the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream, in 1967. ''All that bleedin' tubular lark!' In 1978/79 it was yet another revival, like Mods. Punks weren't all middle class. Lots of drivel, in this, Dame Janet.

great show! i liked sham as a lad, they were a great band, jimmy always had his heart in the right place but wasn't very bright, much of what he says to street porter is incoherent and doesn't really make any sense! he's a good example of someone trying to come across as intelligent because he knows a few words but he can't string them together very well! a great frontman though, people like rotten, weller and strummer were far more intelligent as indeed were mensi and malcolm owen but you cannot deny sham's influence

Poor Jimmy did not want to become a skinhead icon. Yet Sham skinhead army was Shams big problem at gigs. If you fell down dancing there was a good chance a skinhead would give you a good kicking with his steel toe cap boots. The irony was as skinheads were antigay some of them would indulge in gay antics. When the new wave ska came out it was from the roots of black music. Black players in football became commonplace in the 80's, racist skinheads have had no option to accept what ever colour we are ,we are all the same.
