I actually didn't mind the Cleveland Show. It felt more grounded and real (mind the bear)- didn't just throw you into cutaway gags all the time. Plus, Cleveland's family actually felt like a family- whereas the Griffins stopped hitting that mark, as previously mentioned in the Brian video.

I will never understand those people who complain about an art style being too similar to another show, despite the two shows being made by the same person.

in the defense of Fugget About It, they did at least spice it up from family guy dynamics for the most part and made it more about a mafia family coming to a new country and trying to adjust. They also 'taught' people about some parts of Canada here and there but i wouldn't outright say its a family guy clone

I actually really like American Dad. While The Cleveland Show and Family Guy feel pretty similar, American Dad for whatever reason distances itself enough. The characters just feel like they have more heart to them. It's also nice to see characters like Stan, who is more emotional and cares about what his kids are doing, and Francine who is more casual. You don't see that often in the typical family sitcom. Ironically, I would say Stan is more of a family guy than Peter, since he acts more like a father and less like a dimwitted fourth child that Lois has to deal with. Besides that, it also doesn't rely heavily on pop culture and relevant celebrities. It's timeless, which I think is important in a show. Especially with how quick memes and viral jokes become annoying these days.

American Dad and the Cleveland Show aren't clones. One is a spinoff, the other is a show by the same creators in the same universe. They're the younger siblings of Family Guy.

American dad is honestly one of the best cartoons on TV. You can tell that's where Seth puts all his energy into and just does family guy for a paycheck. American dad is actually funny every episode and actually has characters that have grown over time. Season 1 American dad is way different from the current seasons. Amazing seeing actual character development in an adult animated sitcom

The clones are great and stand on their own. There’s too many seasons of family guy but you can binge the entirety of the clones in one sitting if you wanted. Tells a story of sorts

I remember watching an episode of Bordertown and _instantly_ saw the Family Guy-style stilted animation. What’s worse is that they tried to hide it with an even shittier art style, thinking no one would notice.

american dad is still a very solid show and unlike many adult animated cartoon, the episode arent becoming more and more boring. the characters are all very likeable and roger and his crap always make my day.

American dad actually found their uniqueness and it’s even better to me than family guy the songs Steve makes, RODGER, and the type of stories help the show find their own way and it still holds up

I think that American Dad actually is still a good show, and unlike almost every other clone (including family guy)can actually watch any episode and could confidently say I could watch it again. Each character has something redeemable about them, they don't feel overused and stale, and most importantly, it doesn't feel like I'm being condescended just for watching it. They actually use the runtime for something other than meaningless irrelevant fluff padding a 5 minute plot line into a 30 minute time slot.

I remember there was a point when we just straight up stopped watching Family guy and started watching American Dad since the latter was just more entertaining and less "lolsorandom".

I think one of the reasons American Dad works is the main characters are all interesting, distinct, diverse and fleshed out enough to easily have their own solo episodes and b-plots. It can have like FOUR plots going on in an episode and all be good. Meanwhile Family Guy more relies on Brian Stewie and Peter. Can you even DESCRIBE Lois's personality without looking it up? I fucking dare ya.

Honestly, American Dad is what Family Guy should have been, it's the best out of the three shows and definitely deserves to not be called a clone.

One thing that made Brickleberry stick out to me as a younger dude was the Daniel Tosh character (Malloy the bear). Daniel Tosh is pretty good with shock value humor and can keep them going without losing it's value for the most part. I can totally see how it's a clone of family guy but I always enjoyed Brickleberry because of the vague hint of Tosh you can hear.

I've been saying since it started airing on adult swim, the reason why the Cleveland snow failed was one specific reason: it wasn't the Cleveland show, it was black family guy. The Cleveland show could have been good, compare it with fraiser: a side character leaves the area with his new family and meets new people as he starts his own life. Its pretty basic, but there was alot to work with. Cleveland had a set personality for a decade. Some might argue that he was just the calm and quiet black friend and that's not much of a character, but rather than work to expand his character and give it development like the writers did on fraiser, they quarter assed it and just decided to make him peter Griffin. This didn't work with family guy fans because they had seen a character for a decade become the his friend that they knew he wasn't, new viewers got sick of the same seth mcfarlane show and blacks who many claimed the show pandered to didn't like it, obviously, because it seemed that it was trying to pander to them (which they did a poor job of doing)

Do your research, american dad came out when family guy WAS cancelled but then they brought back family guy. So american dad is its own thing

Ugh, this reminded me of my own idea for a Family Guy clone. The hook I had was that the whole family were a bunch of sideshow circus freaks. The dad as I recall could dislocate any part of his body, the wife was the bearded lady, the son was a toad boy, and the teenage daughter was the human pin cushion. I think the only thing really notable beyond that was it actually would have focused on circus-related stories combined with the sitcom family satire, like one episode would have introduced a lion tamer who hits on the wife character, so the husband would want to become a lion tamer himself out of jealousy.

i remember watching family guy on the crt we had back then when i was 5 i said "i wanna watch family guy!" then they let me watch it and i watched about 3 episodes of it while occasionally grabbing fruit snacks, and i loved it! and that was my first experience with adult animation
