Our rabbits are loving listening to this. To be fair, they enjoy most music. I think this is due to the rapid, complex blending of sounds though. Our one bunny usually only rocks out to well rock and the Dragonborn theme from Skyrim. Seeing her listen to this was interesting. And now she's mad at me because the music is over.
When I hear this, I KNOW for a FACT I am a Samurai demon killer meant to save to the world :) It makes me eager to find my blade and start slaying evil :)
***** That would work to. I did mean plain as in another dimension. Like a plain of passage. You made me look up an example, lol. And it looks like I found an interesting book. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Plains_of_Passage Thanks!
TI Pilot not so sure on that Chief. The Great Leap Forward wasn’t the best I’ve ever seen. But then again that’s China and this is japan we are talking about
I love these guys! Their new Album Hishou is fantabulous - my favorite. As long as these guys lay off the synth and keep up the quick tempo and the trad. melodies, they can't go wrong. They're friggin fantastic.
First of all, the whole video is amazing. I hold these musicians (and their instrument) in the highest of esteem. 2:37 - I get that feeling in the pit of my stomach like I'm rolling over the hill of a rollercoaster, gets me every time! Chills!
It's really cool to see the kind of states masters of different instruments get into when they get in the zone. Where metal guitarists are extremely intense and blues guitarists are express soul and passion, these shamisen players seem at peace and tranquil even when they are absolutely shredding the thing. Very cool dynamic of music and the emotions that rise from every genre and style.
Not really. If you want a similar sound, then look for the Chinese Sanxian. It has three strings, and it is the predecessor of the Shamisen... I believe
AnonymousMan Well you could say the Chinese Sanxian, Vietnamese Dan Tam, Khmer Ping, Ryukyuan Sanshin and Japanese Shamisen are banjos. The are a long necked guitar with a drum as a resonator, but they are not very much related to the African or British Banjo
I love this instrument. It has such a unique sound. It makes me laugh because the way you strum it makes it sound like one of the strings is going to break any minute.
Damn! This clip has been around for a while ! And it still inspires me to practice harder on my Shamisen. Both these guys are top notch players. I studied with Kinoshita Shinichi back in 2004 and I know Agatsuma from EMI music Japan. Agatsuma is a really cool dude! I love his Shamisen playing! He even got me my record deal with EMI. I really feel blessed as a Shamisen Player to be able to gain inspiration from these two! Thanks for posting and keeping this up!
Ah you really think the people playing banjo, are bright enough to invent it? Nope sorry, banjo is the poor person's poor replica of a ukelele. Has nothing to do with ancient beauty like shamisen.
YummYp00p Excuse me? The banjo was invented in the 1600's, and was derived from one or several African tribal instruments, which date back to hundreds of years before the shamisen. The banjo's roots date back further than the shamisen's "ancient beauty." Furthermore, the ukulele was derived from the Hawaiian interpretation of a type of portuguese guitar, nearly 300 years AFTER the modern banjo. I play the banjo. Please, keep calling me dumb. You seem to know SO MUCH about musical history. ;)
I'm well aware lol, I personally use the term "kung fu" to describe most things having to do with martial arts or fighting because I think it's hilarious. Thanks though.
deathpants1 guys, kung fu does not mean anything martial arts in particular. It is the intense study of one sole thing. There is even kung fu tea pouring. Since these people did devote all their life, time, energy and feeling in learning and mastering this instrument it is indeed, kung fu as fuck.
No, in fact when you look down you automatically partially close your eyelids (probably to adjust luminosity) Just take a picture of yourself looking down and you'll see!
55 people actually disliked this? How can you not like this... this is THE ultimate shamisen battle....especially the older gentlemen, Mr. Kinoshita. Amazing speed and skill.
