The process of completing the shamisen, a Japanese stringed instrument with a fixed neck.
We were shown both the hand-stitching process using a wooden plug and the machine-stitching process.
We also had a chance to play the completed shamisen.

I admire the work accomplished, seeing things done by hand is gratifying, you can feel the professionalism of the person who makes the Shamisen. All I can wish him is to continue making Shamisen and making people happy.

It's fantastic, that a young man can play this instrument, which sounds very exotic to me. I would like to hear a typical Japanese concert with all their so called "old" instruments.

The strings of the shamisen have been made of silk since ancient times, and surprisingly, they have not changed even now. There was no time when animal intestines were used. (Although the thin strings of Tsugaru shamisen are nylon)

No idea what this glue is made of, but it must be incredibly strong to withstand the forces pulling on that leather.

My thought it's a sort of animal gelatin, like fish or rabbit skin glue that's ground into a powdered form, ready for activation upon hydrating? I could be wrong, though.

Don’t quote me on this, but I think that it might be made from rice. Even when it’s not used for glue, it is very sticky.
