I never read replies actually, you should do your research. Orcas are highly intelligent and have a much bigger brain than humans. Their level of sensitivity and emotions is much bigger and plus that they are extremely social and therefore they should not be taken from their family's to perform and in the end die after a boring and bad life.

What would you feel like to get stolen from your mom, and then put in a pen and just splash water at people and get couple of fish for it, you would die in under a week, But these poor Orca's live over 10+ years of this everyday same thing over and over again.... It's ugly and inhuman to do this

So, ...how many people did Keiko "kill" among his trainers, handlers, veterinarians, ...the Norwegian civilians he chose to hang out with after his "liberation" (including the kids he gave rides to on his back) ...??!? ...And, he was an orca taken from his mother's side and kept for more than a decade in a tiny, too-warm water, tank in Mexico. He was purchased, trained by ideologically-committed marine biologists to be returned to the wild, freed off Iceland -- where he had been captured twenty years earlier; and then he swam into a Norwegian fjiord, encountered a fishing village ...and just went completely RAMBO -- slaughtering every human in sight!!! Yes?!? Just like "Jaws" in Amity, Massachusetts!! Isn't that what happened?!?
Imagine if you lived in a closet your whole life and was taken from your loved ones...how depressing is that. That's how it is with these beautiful creatures, eventually they do and will go pscychotic, captivity is not good for any animals.

Exactly. ....And, they already did that -- with Keiko, the 'Free Willy' orca. Now, after years of re-training Keiko (after they purchased him from his Mexican owners, and initially moved him to a large tank in Oregon), Keiko DID learn to hunt for fish on his own. What they were hoping for was that Keiko, once freed, would join a pod of wild orcas (off of Iceland, where he was initially captured twenty years earlier). Eventually, after they moved him to Iceland (where they had a sea pen to complete his training for the wild), they managed to get him to swim away (on one of their regular "sea walks", in which they led him out by boat) -- but only after switching to a "tough love" policy of refusing to speak or even look at him (when he would constantly come alongside the boat for re-assuring "pettings" and the like). ...A couple of months later, after he "swam off into the sunset" his handlers had hoped, he was found in a Norwegian fjiord at a fishing village, in which he was interacting with local people and even giving rides to kids on his back. He never re-integrated into a pod; he always preferred humans. He died shortly afterwards -- after his handlers chased him out of that fjiord into one more isolated from people. Lesson learned: they are like canines (wolves, coyotes, foxes) which when captured young and coming used to human contact, will always come back to human contact and will not become a member of a wild pack. If they freed THESE orcas, here, the orcas would just drift into harbors and coastal towns to be near humans. (In such environments, the risk of injury to orca and human would be much greater.) They can never be "freed" in the manner in which the "animal lovers" think or wish.

For those of you saying these animals should be released, they’d die almost immediately. As said by most, this is wrong, and I agree, but these animals grew up in captivity. This means that they’ve never experienced ocean life! Even if they were released, they wouldn’t know how to hunt for prey, attack, etc. This is something you guys need to understand! This happens, as unfortunate as it is, these animals are RAISED by humans and would not be able to function alone. They’re not raised by their moms, they’re raised and trained by humans. Accept reality.
What you need to understand is that sanctuary for these whales exist and can be built! They would still need to be fed, but they would have distraction in the sea, fish coming to them, noises from their habitat, and they would be able to swim, to dive, and to get back what has been taken from them; their instinct! Yes they could be partially released and these shows could be stop if people didn’t buy tickets to see that nightmare!
Plus: haven’t you heard about Keiko? Yes he was raised in captivity even if born in the wild. But he was perfectly able to learn how to follow a boat, and therefore follow other orcas! He was capable of staying alone for months, when everybody thought that he would get killed... he didn’t because orcas are super intelligent, and the instinct will do its job

After 50 years, it's time for change. The Shamu show has got to go. Take the Pledge: Don't buy a ticket to a dolphin show. Write to the California State Assembly in Sacramento in support of AB-2140, the Orca Welfare and Safety Act. Cruel tricks in tanks are part of the past. Ocean sanctuaries and sea pens are the future.

I think the idea of happy healthy whales getting the “best of care” at SeaWorld is an illusion and a deception. The orcas are not deliberately abused in the way that we often think of animal abuse. They are worth millions of dollars to the company, after all. But it is abuse, nonetheless. Confining a 12,000 pound ocean-dwelling mammal to a shallow concrete pool---for life---is a form of abuse and exploitation. Even with the “best of care.” Add to that the forced breeding, the mother/calf separations, and the close confinement with aggressive animals with no way of escape---and the abuse escalates. SeaWorld is in the business of separating tourists from their money. Please don’t buy a ticket to a whale or dolphin show. Don’t buy a ticket to SeaWorld. Join the boycott of all SeaWorld parks including Aquatica and Discovery Cove. Because change is necessary.

SeaWorld does more good than what you think is wrong. These animals are given so much care, they made a fucking orca a birthday cake for God's sake. Also, they have already said there going to stop the shows, make bigger tanks with a more natural feel, and stop breeding them so what are you bitching for? By the way, im assuming we should stop all operations at Busch Gardens (since there owned by SeaWorld too.)
