I was a member of the UAW for four months in 1973 - it was the only time in my life I was threatened for working too hard. The original idea of unions (or guilds in the Middle Ages) was good, but power breeds corruption.

If the union has something similar to an "apprenticeship" program like we have in LIUNA it should keep the equity fair and also encourage growth in the indy's. Apprentice union workers make 60 to 90 percent of what a journeyman would make. Just classify a indy wrestler as a apprentice.

As the WWE transitions to a full-blown corporate entity and away from the McMahon legacy (ie when the wrestlers no longer know their ultimate boss), I think the SAG-type union is feasible. Personally I think there's a ton of unintended and unplanned consequences that would be the fallout though.

The nonsense about UFC not paying its fighters is ridiculous. People always want to compare boxing, only the main event in boxing makes big money. UFC spreads the money around. UFC has undercard fighters earning 250K to 500k per fight & that’s not including the PPV, Gate, Sponsorship, & bonuses such KO of the night or Fight of the night. The free prelims fighters are paid accordingly, they aren’t selling tickets or PPV’s. My cousin fought on the opening bout in the UFC & he earned 50K altogether.

A Union in Wrestling would not kill the Indies, because in the Indies, wrestlers (mostly) have no exclusive contract, that would stop them from working for another company. Only the big companies like WWE or AEW have exclusive contracts, that prevent wrestlers from working for another company. On the Indies, Wrestlers are independent contractors. In the big companies, they are employees. It is quite easy. Exclusive contract = Employee. Non-exclusive contract = Independent Contractor.

Union is a flat payrate for certain positions with dues. Wrestlers aren't paying union dues, good luck. Also guys are gonna be ok being paid the same across the board? Doubt it will ever happen. It bearly works with the restaurant workers in Atlantic city. 😂😂😂

There is a baseline pay and that pay is increased by union officials lobbying and negotiating not only pay increase but health benefits too. This really should be taught in high schools.😂@1983jcheat

Example of a Wresting "Union": A wrestler with "Seniority" i.e. an older, perhaps? over the hill wrestler keeps his job and a wrestler who is new or does not have as much "Seniority" loses his job? if the business is failing and layoffs are imminent? Because that's how a Union works. There's an old saying about Unions-they protect bums. You all decide if that's really true. Because the reality of a wrestling Union would of had a 55 yr. old Flair vs. a 58 yr. old Hogan as top billing because they have Seniority- none of the "younger" wrestlers would not move up the billing until older wrestlers retire or there is a spike in business, and they start to rehire. That, in essence, would be how a Union in wrestling would work.

I automatically discount the opinions of the so called smart fans who link pro wrestling with sports in one breath and then use The F Word to describe pro wrestling. In theory, a union sounds good on the surface. But anyone who is or has been part of the rank & file for a couple years knows unions are just another money scam against the working class.

A wrestling union will never happen because the guys in the top spots would never agree to it. Unionization means everyone gets paid the same amount of money. You think the world champion and the top guys in the company is going to agree to make the same money as the guy in the opening match or who wrestles on the B shows? Jesse Ventura tried to unionize before Wrestlemania 2, and Hogan blew the whistle and Vince put a stop to it for that reason as I said above.

That's not what a union means at all. It means that the wrestlers negotiate collectively. You think Tom Brady got paid the same as a 3rd string lineman? Both were in the players union. That said, I agree at first it would require some top guys to sign on, but if you get enough mid carders to, and WWE tries to fight it, then they have no mid card. The part that IMO is highly illegal is getting away with calling them independent contractors. I'm really shocked WWE hasn't been sued into the ground over that yet.

UFC vs NFL- apples to oranges. NFL franchises are paying the athletes $$ to compete against other teams. UFC & WWE don't have teams competing against one another.
