I live in Australia but small town. So I see about 2 Goths every 6 months and I'm just as surprised. (The joke is I see one a year and one on Halloween )

I wore a blue shirt with small white squares on my last day of a week long business trip to Scotland. My wife gave me the shirt, I wasn't fond of it, but clean laundry was getting scarce. One of the Scottish gentlemen asked me why I was wearing his wife Helen's blouse. Didn't have a good comeback for that one. Never wore the shirt again.

Yes the population is larger overall but it makes entire cities unlivable. In the US for instance, blacks are like 12% of the population but they practically only exist in cities, the native population don’t want to be near them so they build suburbs and commute hours rather than just living in cities. There aren’t that many blacks but where they are concentrated makes a big difference.

Yea I'm Aboriginal Australian. There are lots of us here. Plus we are also one of the most multicultural country's on earth. Don't know what part of Australia he went to. Probably a small country town somewhere in the south east.

European explorers even coined the term "Negrito" to refer to some Polynesian groups, because they were just as black as African "Negros" but physically a bit smaller ("-ito" suffix). In America I can imagine the distinction being exclusively for black Africans, and in Australia notably there's a distinction between "Black" as in Africans, and "Aboriginal" for indigenous Australians.

Talk about the quantity of black people in the UK all you want, but it’s not really a fair comparison. America has so many black people that are vastly culturally separate from Africans because they were forced over there. The majority of black British people are descendants of the Windrush generation, who migrated here on their OWN accord for job prospects in the wake of the Second World War. For the most part, they very much retain their Caribbean identity and culture despite being born and raised in the UK. (Not saying they don’t have their own struggles due to the stupidity of British government, but they’re an important part of British history and respected by the majority of the actual British public) I think Americans often make the mistake of thinking that places like Europe have a lack of racial awareness. It’s not that; it’s that we’re more interested in someone’s ethnicity and cultural nuances. Americans cling to race, but it’s understandable considering the fact that American history did so much to erase specific cultures. African American culture is one that’s built almost solely off of the discrimination they’ve endured and it’s sad to see how that’s shaped ideologies and attitudes in the US. Now I’m not saying the UK of Europe is a heavenly utopia for minorities because prejudice and discrimination towards minorities can be found anywhere in the world. But I do think that Americans fail to acknowledge the diversity outside of the states, as well as give themselves a bit too much credit sometimes.
