The house pro demonstrated some very nice safety work early on, especially in that long exhange. Shortly after Shane starts almost single stroking it on about five balls in a row, and I thought I saw a little grin on the pro's face, kind of an 'oh crap'. The LAST thing you want when you play Shane is to see him start getting THAT comfortable. Hell, just being able to say to played Shane is a pretty cool cap feather. Saying you at least won a couple is a bit better. I like that the pro was showing respect on the multiple concessions on the dead easy nines. Shane is absurd (ly amazing). His patterning is pristine, rolling up shot lines almost every time even when he has to force it a bit. I felt the fist pump on the first win, and at that point the house pro deserved it. A master class from Shane. Fun to watch, even if it was one sided. What I really love is you guys taking the time to race through the racking, so I don't have to grab the slider and do it myself every time...appreciated!

I didn’t understand that second game. The house pro makes a ball on the break then Shane comes up to decide whether he wants the next shot or not -then the breaker plays a push out? I thought that if the player made a shot on the break, he or she would continue with the next decision. Why would Shane have a choice at shooting or not? Special rules for this event or not a legal break? Edit…looking back, I imagine it was because it was an illegal break. I’m wondering what the options were. He could shoot or make the other guy shoot is what happened. Was a re-rack also an option? If so, Shane breaking or his choice?

Most likely had a soft break rule in effect, it's becoming more common. A pro named Corey Deuel perfected it. It let him make the 1 and the wing ball with very little movement of the rack. He then had a very tight and relatively easy run out. He was ripping through tournaments with this strategy, plenty of videos on RU-vid. So tournaments started using a soft break rule, usually 3 balls have to cross the headstring on a break or it's illegal wether or not you make a ball, Corey almost always did.

What rules is this? Alternating breaks but you have the choice to play or pass? Second rack the guy who lost broke and made a ball then passed the shot which was passed back and then pushed. I'm confused and I've played high level pool for over 30 years.

Three points rule
@butter7734

@@billiardnetwork I'm not familiar with that.
@billiardnetwork

The three-point rule in 9 ball means that players must pocket or make the ball contact the head string line on the break shot. For instance, if a player pockets one object ball, at least two other balls must get the head string line.
@billiardnetwork
@billiardnetwork 11 месяцев назад
18. THE THREE POINT BREAK RULE (1) On the break shot, a minimum of three object balls must either be pocketed, or touch the head string line, or a combination of both. For example, if one object ball is pocketed, then at least two object balls must touch the head string line; or if two object balls are pocketed, then at least one object ball must touch the head string line. To touch the head string line means that the edge of the object ball must reach (break) the string line. (2) If a player fails to meet the requirements in (1), but otherwise makes a legal break, the incoming player has the choice to accept the tables as is, or hand the shot back to his opponent. (3) In accepting the table as is, the incoming player is not permitted to play a “push-out”, he must play a legal shot to the ball on. (4) If the table is handed back to the breaker, the breaker is permitted to play a push-out. If so, his opponent will then have the choice to either play the shot, or hand it back. (5) If a player fails to meet the requirements of (1), but otherwise makes a legal break and pockets the 9 ball, the 9 ball is reposted before the next shot is played. The three point rule must be present on all WPA ranking 9-ball events, together with tapping or ball rack.

@@billiardnetwork I looked it up and I've never heard of this and imo is stupid. If someone soft breaks then you just beat them on 3 fouls. I've never seen this in any pool hall or tournament at least on the east coast of the US.

that match was like a club pro playing a Tour pro on Wednesday. was this for a good charity or do they not have enough pros for these tournaments or what? this is a waste of time for the pro even if it is some kind of elimination format no wonder they have trouble selling this sport!
