Roger just plays tennis the way it should be played. Having a single hander, going for your shots, entertaining fans with awesome winners all without a single grunt.
I’m a Rafa fan but miss Roger, especially this younger fleet-footed version with cat-like reflexes and a deadly whipping forehand. Watching a match like this it's hard not to think that prime Roger in full flow on fast surfaces may have been the most unplayable player in history.
PRECISELY! I noticed that too before I even read your post-the thing about being fleet-footed. That's the Roger that would typically crush Djokovic. He held the most GS finals for the longest time but like everyone, he had to get old and that gave Rafa and Joker the opening they needed to bypass his record. What ticks me off is that his record being broken suggests that Rog isn't the best in the world, but this older video and others say otherwise. Roger's prime beats all others' prime-except on clay against Rafa.
@@silversurfer4441 Rafa also beat Roger many times off-clay; a major factor was that Roger used a relatively small 90" racket frame until 2014 and his backhand would often breakdown under relentless pressure from Rafa's huge topspin forehand.
Even in 2010 Djokovic played so well. The scoreline does not show how good he had already become. Of course, those years, Federer was in incredible form. He played amazing tennis as was expected of him.
@@truthtruth9056 what kind of loser is old and out of his prime at age 29?? He became old and out of his prime as soon as his competition got better, apparently
@@mikemoggerson6651 roger didn't have players like thiem, zverev, berretini, tsitsipas, ruud, Tommy Paul in his 29 and 30 age😂😂😂... BTW, I hear breathing excuse from novaktards for all his losses before 2010...but how did he reach no3, win a slam, and win multiple masters during that time? Logical answer pls.. Its a pure medical miracle🤣.. Suddenly all the excuses which was valid until 31st Dec, 2010 immediately vanished on 1st Jan 2011 the very next day😂😂😂
Vintage Federer at his physical and confident best here ; free flowing quick stealth game that made him famous Djokovic was on his sharp ascendancy also at this time ; working on a better all round game etc . Notice in the tight first set Federer earlier on during many of the baseline rallies droped the ball short which was hurting him ; he changed that after he snuck the set out - he hit many balls much deeper in the second which then made it much harder for Djokovic. In my view, the latter part of his career Fed s inability to keep the ball consistent ly deep - particularly against the dogged defence play of Djokovic - hurt his head to head tipping it in the latters favour.
That is called Time. Every player declines from their best and starts missing things, and doubting and also physically not their bests. Well Federer had to deal with Novak and Rafa while they are at their best while he was slipping from his best.
Federer was 2-10 against Djokovic in majors from 2010 onwards, including 2-7 from 2010-2016. The only major final he beat Djokovic in was a few months after Djokovic turned 20.
Roger Federer had captivated millions of hearts with his effortless, elegant, virtuous and dynamic performance. Above all, by his humility, gorgeous looks and charitable work. No wonder he's a living legend! God bless him and his family most graciously!
15:00 this point is crazyyy. Federer put Djokovic out wide right before, so djokovic anticipated Federer's down the line shot and hit wide back. This forced federer to take the easier down the line shot. But then federer was like "sure, why not" and tilted his racket head back a bit, turning it into a mini lob. Djokovic would've expected it to be closer to him
Before 2011, Djokovic used to play pretty aggressively. He stayed much closer to the baseline than he does now, and he would finish quite a lot of points at the net. His serve was much bigger at the time too. Honestly, his playstyle back then wasn’t that different from Federer’s.
This is not true completely. Novak actually improved his serve a lot to start beating Federer, and of course Federer slowed down/level declined from his best before that happened. Novak has always been bad at net if you look at overall averages. Novak's 2015 serve is his best. The key difference is, Federer coming down a level opened up the window of opportunity coinciding with Novak hitting prime. Novak is mostly a baseliner, and yes aggressive baseliner. Federer on the other hand is basically more variety and complete repertoire game. In their match-up, even in Novak's prime most matches are very close, I always say Novak's crucial part of game is his return of service. Federer could handle everything else even his past prime and off days - even at Novak's best. But that return of serve is out of this world.
i agree, his forehand and backhand were also hit much harder before 2013...he also kind of abandoned the backhand down the line which was one of his great strengths. i think this might be because of the ongoing elbow injury
nothing lasts forever and roger like anybody else only had so much time he defined the game of tennis for a long time novak challenged roger greatly and often won the match when they played but roger had more than a dominant baseline game tennis today seems a bit dull because its mostly a baseline shootout
Nel 2010 era molto difficile portar a casa la pagnotta con Roger. I suoi due o tre avversari dovrebbero ringraziarlo e' stato lui a farli salire di livello
Novak didn't waste it... Roger earned it and played better on those tight points... Roger is not like novak who relies on opponent unforced errors to save mp's
@TvRF Yes, movement AND racquet head speed. Compare his forehand from AO and Wimbledon 2013 and the same tournaments in 2014. The movement is relatively the same but the forehand is just not as sharp. Look at Halle 2013. He barely moves there with the back and all, but the forehand is sharper than in 2014. I don't think a bigger frame would have helped much during his prime because the courts were faster then. I agree with his decision to switch to a bigger frame, because I don't know any better than Federer 😁 and racquet head speed isn't that needed on today's slow courts, consistency is, especially on the backhand.
@@Marko777ify The new racket definitely would have helped him a lot between 2010 and 2011. He kept shanking the ball everytime, and slicing his backhand then.
My reply towards that stupid Vijay dont need to hide the fact that I like Federer play style and i enjoy his matches a lot Thank u perfect tennis for the upload

PED's in the sport have totally caused an inflated number..minus all PED's and enhancers, it would be much different I truly believe..it's very easy to get away with it in tennis
I miss but Federer with the old racquet. The thing he could have improved was his first serve(Pete could have helped here). Probably his physic as well. And Jokovic and Nadal practiced more than him in the years behind.
i've been watching Nole for 12 years now. there was 1 thing i'd never figure out on my own which was that he gave a point away for no reason when he was ahead, or or he's dictating, all of a sudden he did not pressure the same way that led him ahead. it was not his opponents played better and forced him to make a weak play. no, he just quitted for no reason at all. according his ability, his hi IQ, he knew what to do and how to win a point, but he just did the opposite and let the other player win the point.
@@flyingsaucer8199 it is the other way. Only federer wins all his matches for around 23 years by hitting more winners and more unforced errors ( he always loses by not playing well to his standards and not by the opponents superior game) whereas all others , including nadal, djoko etc etc win by hitting less winnees, less unforced errors , they wait for the opponents to make mistakes, very opposite to fed. Roger is a very, very, aggressive, most skilled player, whereas the other 2( same play style players)!very very, defensive, most patient , mental strong players. Fed is the biggest entertainer and crowd puller
From this match federer went on to win 4 slams, novak went on to win TWENTY ONE slams. And its not like federers stopped playing like this immediately after 2010 either.
And novak benefited from competing against 30-40 old out of prime federer in 2011-2020 cause back when roger still younger novak lucky enough to win 1 slam like he did in 2008
@@truthtruth9056You dont understand tennis at all. Novak was good before 2011 but not even 10% of what he became after 2010. He changed his diet, he changed his mentality and federer was weak because djokovic was just another level. Both Djokovic and Nadal dominated him.
Federer leads h2h in games (755-747) and sets (74-73). Djokovic is just better in clutch situations which makes him the better winner, NOT the better tennis player.
I miss my unicorn so much. Watching men's tennis now is boring AH. It doesn't even matter who's playing because they all play exactly the same tennis. Fun fact - Neither Djokovic or Nadal ever beat Roger in Shanghai - either at the Masters 1000 event or the Year End finals. Novak was 0-2 and Nadal was 0-3. He was 0-3 in Shanghai against Murray though. So bragging rights to Murray.
Fun fact-Roger played top 5 players in only 4 of his major final wins. Another fun fact-Roger faced fewer top 10 opponents than Nadal or Djokovic in his career, yet still had a lower win rate against top 10 players. One more fun fact-Fed only had a positive h2h against Djokovic from 2005-2008. That’s when Djokovic was 18-21. Every season after that Djokovic was catching up until he surpassed him, including years when Fed was still in his mid-late 20s.
@@mikemoggerson6651 What are you talking about? Federer was 4:1 against Djokovic in 2010 and in that one loss he had MPs. So that was a lie from you. His top 5 opponents in major finals: 2004 Wimbledon (Roddick), 2004 US Open (Hewitt), 2005 Wimbledon (Roddick), 2006 Wimbledon (Nadal), 2007 Wimbledon (Nadal), 2007 US Open (Djokovic), 2010 Australian Open (Murray), 2012 Wimbledon (Murray). I count 8 occasions, not 4. So stop spreading lies or get your facts right.
@@robinsoncruise2228 32 year old Djokovic is prime? Wasn’t that well past the “grandpa fed” threshold for Fed fans? And I didn’t know losing counted as schooling
Interesting observation. Funny how Federer seemed to handle Novak much better at the same time he struggled with Murray yet at that time Novak had no problem with Murray.
Roger is too hot to handle on fast hard courts even by the (so called) best hard court player... Novak would have retired by now, if AO courts played at this speed😂... Roger even stopped the winning streak of novak in shanghai 2014...
He lost to federer the following week in Basel, he then went out in the second round in paris masters, then lost to nadal and fed again at the world tour finals. He definitely finished the 2010 season at a pretty high level but his 2011 streak still kinda came out of nowhere imo

I don't think we will ever know for certain what he did to achieve that fitness level (maybe he took drugs/ maybe that's just when he committed to giving the sport his 100%) but considering how fit he still is at 35 he definitely figured something out
It cannot be denied that Djokovic is the tennis player with the strongest comprehensive ability. His backhand can be called the most stable backhand in ATP, and his body is always in a healthy state. These are the advantages we should learn from

Meh. GOAT should be about more than titles and wins. Roger changed the game. Neither of the other 2 can say that. And TBH - better Djokovic with the Slam lead than Nadal. I have a problem with someone who has 70% of their career wins on one surface. And as I like to point out - Djokovic is playing in a very weak era. Anyone who thinks Roger's prime era was weaker than the last 10-12 years is deluding themselves. Without looking at the current rankings I would estimate that 80-90% of the top 100 have never even been in a Slam 4th round let alone a final.

Of course he took his game to another level completely in 2011 but don't act like he was some nobody or little child before that.
@@ashleythomas4112 I agree completely with what you said. My problem is at that time Roger was accusing Novak as being a fake for retrieving from matches he was losing. It turned out that when Novak changed his diet to gluten free at that time, he won more than anybody else, in the last 12 years. So what I actually wanted to say was, Roger went on his all time lowest when accusing Novak as a fake at that point in time, last 12 years of Novak’s dominance proved that. I have not articulated my point clearly.
I guess, Federers fans, soon make a global research to find out, when Federer prime was 🤣🤣🤣 Sure, there will be many versions In 2010 From 2007 to 2010 Never Always It depends of Djokovic It depend of Nadal It depends of them both, etc 🤣🤣🤣
