Shanling SCD200 SACD Player. Probably the best SACD reader I have ever seen.

This Shanling is as well made as all the others but also has an ease of servicing. Only problems here were the tray loading belt that needed replacement and some corrosion in battery compartment of the remote controller.
Reads CDs and SACDs fast at maybe 2/3 of laser power of most players.
Quality parts inside: Rubycons and Nichichon Fine Golds, R-Core transformer, filtered mains switch, Sony LHM-280 mechanism, 11 voltage regulators. Almost as new condition and it looks quite good too.
Much more competent than all the other SACD players that I have seen to date.

Impressive tracking speed on this unit! Not quite up there with Sony's legendary BU mechanism and KSS-151A, KSS-190A, etc lasers from back in the day but nothing will ever reach those heights again. That said this is most impressive for SACD. Nearly all SACD players are incredibly slow, even the "original" SCD-1 was notorious. I'm surprised even today's high end (modern Esoteric, Accuphase) are not nearly as fast as those 25+ year old players. For me, just from seeing this video, only disappointment about this Shanling is the relatively cheap sheet metal side/bottom/back panels, which does surprise me as Shanling has also made some players which are covered top to bottom in thick aluminium slabs.

Yes, the sides are very thin but the whole thing is VERY heavy. I have no idea as yet where does the weight come from. The cover is heavier then some but as thick as some other ones. When I get a bit of time I'll open it up again and see what's the story.

I own an Arcam CDS27 cd/SACD player which sounds amazing but it is very slow at track skipping and audible search, why do manufacturers use what seems to be a CD ROM drive instead of a proper cd mechanism these days?

Well, the SACD forces them to use DVD type mechanism and your Arcam happens to have Sony KEM-480AAA. Proper CD mechanism are no longer made as market for CD players is dwindling and has been for some years. This is only my assumption and I have not investigated this, but to be able to play SACDs one has to have a high speed DVD mechanism which supplies data much faster than 2 channel audio requires. So when playing audio CD (Red Book), the data is stored in FIFO buffer. Because processing power and memory add to cost, only a bare minimum is being put on board. Things like fast search would require some extra computational power, hence it suffers and they probably believe that hardly anyone uses it, and hence they just do not worry about implementing it properly.

Is the disc being played a CD or SACD? When the player read the disc the display showed CD not SACD?

This was standard CD. But it was very fact on SACD as well. There is another video about it where I have found a fault in its SPDIF output ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yqajISxUPP4.html It was playing SACD there but the was a noise coming from Power Supply. From memory, replacing caps next to heatsink fixed the problem.

This is a joke right??? 🤔

No it is not. I did not say it is the best SACD player, but the best reader of SACDs. It reads T.O.C. almost as fast as good regular CD players and respond to commands virtually as fast as most (average) CD players. Not as fast as the fastest CD players with BU-1 or KSS-190A from Sony or Philips swing arm units but fast enough. Do you know of any fast SACD readers? Particularly ones with 50µW of power from laser?

Not reliable brand, never buy any high price stuff from sl.

Not less reliable than other SACD players. But most are not made with ease of servicing in mind.
