If you wanted to know all about Shannon Sharpe’s workout and diet, especially to look the way he does at 55 years old, then you’ve come to the right place. In this video, I am going to break down what Shannon Sharpe’s workouts and nutrition looks like to maintain his incredible physique. Just like I’ve done for every celebrity workout critique that I have done in the past, I am going to remain respectful and provide an unbiased review of Shannon Sharpe’s workouts. Not only that, but I am going to explain how important it is to implement some of his principles into your training and nutrition so that you can see success as well.
To preface this video, I don’t have access to Shannon’s entire workout program and diet, but we do have a some insights based on interviews he’s done and information he has shared on his podcast and his instagram page. Thus, I don’t have complete context into every single thing he does today, but I can review the information that is available to me.
To start, it would come as no surprise that people have accused Shannon Sharpe of taking PEDs in order to achieve the body that he has at his age. However, he claims a natural status going back to his playing days and based on the information in the rest of the video, I can also assume that he is not taking anything. He states that he’s always been subjected to people thinking he was taking PEDs as even when he was playing in the NFL.
Without the use of performance enhancing drugs, Shannon Sharpe's body is the result of the hard he puts in during his workouts and his dedicated approach to his diet as well.
Beginning with his workouts, Shannon Sharpe states that he does not focus on lifting as heavy as possible anymore and instead has moved much of his focus to circuit training to supplement his traditional weight training. As a matter of fact, he splits his days into two workouts with the morning session being a traditional strength and bodybuilding workout while his cross-training is reserved for the evening.
With these cross-training circuits, he calls likens them to CrossFit. While I am not the biggest fan of CrossFit programming, I can understand that he Shannon Sharpe's workouts are calling for him to continuously move his body to improve his conditioning and supplement the caloric burn necessary to maintain his level of leanness. While these workouts are not hypertrophy based, that doesn't mean he doesn't put time and effort into building muscle as well.
Sharpe's traditional workouts consist of exercises that are hypertrophy based with the goal of building muscle. While I have no real complaints about the way he performs his exercises, I can point out a few things worth noting. First, I notice that he focuses on holding the contracted position of every exercise; while some might argue that this goes against recent research stating that the most important part of the range of motion is the stretch, that doesn't mean the contraction is worth throwing out. I would, however, recommend that he focus a little bit more on the eccentric portion of the lifts. He seems to rush through this part of the lift and I think that Shannon Sharpe's physique, while impressive, could benefit from a little more focus in this area.
One thing worth noting for Shannon Sharpe's injury history that influences some of his workouts, is his recent dual hip replacement.
Shannon Sharpe's diet and approach to nutrition is not very dissimilar from my own. He mentions that he eats roughly the same things with slight variations on a daily basis. This is key to staying consistent with his nutrition as he knows what foods to eat day-in and day-out in order to maintain his body fat levels. Shannon Sharpe's body fat is low because of this consistent approach and lack of deviation from what works.
When it comes to how lean Shannon Sharpe is, this comes down to not just what he eats, but how much he eats. He has remained so dialed-in with his diet that he knows exactly how much to eat every single day - this means that he is not in fear of overeating. Not only that, but he is of the mindset, that I agree with, that his eating habits are not part of a diet (as that is temporary) but instead part of a lifestyle.
Overall, I like Shannon Sharpe's training and nutrition. It checks many of the boxes helping him to achieve the body that caused you to look him up in the first place.

Shannon trained at a speed and agility facility that I worked at. This was around 2004. I’ve worked out with many NFL players during my time in the field, and Shannon maybe trained the hardest. He did sprint/footwork/plyo/agility work and lifted weights, nearly every day in the off-season. I believe him when he says he is clean. He just never stopped and has a ridiculous work ethic.

Shannon's comment about the locker room and the shared experience wasn't about enjoying the process or the grind per se. It was about going through it with other people. Jeff himself mentioned the camaraderie he felt as a trainer (23:59) for the Mets as a key factor in his being successful and enjoying the process while it was happening and not, as in this video, as somebody looking back philosophically years later. Get yourself a workout buddy, a workout coach, or start mentoring somebody in the gym. It will make the process SO much more rewarding and easier to be consistent with. The sum is greater than the parts when you work out with somebody who shares your goals. Shannon helped the Broncos win their first Super Bowl when I was 13 and living two hours from Denver. He was one of my sports gods. His biceps seemed unreal but were very motivating for an 8th grader just discovering the weight room. Thanks for this video, Jeff.

I was in the best shape of my life when working out with the other defensive backs and track guys like myself. There were 5 or 6 of us who did both. Year round training. When I lost that, and life's challenges came, I veered. I am not disciplined enough to do all that I was doing with those guys, on my own. At least not right now. I am drawing motivation (know every workout that I need to do and have every piece of equipment I need right in my training room), just a mental hurdle I have to clear since setting up my new house earlier this year. Don't ever want to be as jacked as Shannon. I'm 45 and 5'10" 220 right now. Don't really need to lose anything. I carry it mostly power half and wouldn't even want to be much below my previous ideal of 217. 210 lowest. I'm not terribly off the mark, because some people would look at me and wonder what I'm complaining about. Those who worked out with me would wonder what happened in the last 25 years LOL

There are certainly outliers out there, genetic freaks. Last week I saw a kid probably 16-17, across the street, while I was sipping on in a tea shop in Turkiye. The kid was about 6,2, wearing a tank top and shorts, I could tell he wasn't a gym goer, but he had muscular shoulders, calves almost to the point of someone who had been training at least 6 years natural, and his arms were as structured as many can not get in a couple of years. It was very obvious to me that he didn't lift, and it was the first time I saw someone with such a freaky genetic displayed through their muscular structure to the point, I thought of approaching him and sponsoring him for the rest of his life for the next 10 Mr. Olympia wins, but than I realized I am broke and will be broke. :))) (been a gym rat my self for so long, I always observe people, and this kid was the best freak of genetics I had seen so far in decades)

@@slylockfox85No, it will take your levels to whatever you want them to be based on how much you take. Obviously when TRT is administered by. An ethical and moral doctor to help people with actual deficiencies based on their gender and age it can be used for good. But the truth is most people aren't doing that and instead getting access to this stuff through back channels, shady "doctors" with no morals, etc and abusing it. Like every drug it only does what it's medically designed to do when administered PROPERLY. Using a pain killer after say a surgery as prescribed by an moral and ethical doctor is FAR different than an addict popping percs however and whenever they feel like it leading to addiction. In both cases it's still the same drug.

I think the key take away that may not be communication enough is his level of experience and the timing factor! Most people who are reviewing him or worse questioning him can’t comprehend that this man doesn’t just have 40+ years of weightlifting and healthy eating experience… which is amazing by itself! But instead He has a life time of the highest possible, professional athlete level of experience with fitness, healthy eating and weight training! I’m 40 years old and in amazing shape! I played sports, including football growing up, then I was in the military (US Army Infantry) and I have spent the majority of my life lifting weights, training MMA and being active! Which is amazing but I still after all that don’t have this man’s level of experience and achievements in the world of fitness, weight lifting and nutrition because he is not only older than me by 15 years but he spent his entire adult life as one of the top/best NFL PLAYERS in the world! Just making it into the NFL is amazing! But this dude was one of the best of the best players and athletes for the majority of his entire adult life!!! People just can’t comprehend that level… So it’s easy to shoot your mouth off and say stupid things (AKA make wrong assumptions). To me it’s equivalent to standing face to face with a famous astronaut who has went too and even walked on the moon several times and telling him that your on his level of experience when it comes to travel and etc… Because you fly several times a week, for the last 10 years due to business travel!?!? 😂🤷🏽‍♂️🤦‍♀️💩… The difference in experience is so far that no one is capable of comparing themselves to that astronaut much less considering themselves on his same level unless they have jumped on a rocket, left our planet, landed on the moon, got out and walked around for awhile and then returned to planet earth safely!😂🤣 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦‍♀️💩

Bc he's much older now. Your test levels naturally drop and you could keep doing the same thing you've always done and start seeing 1/4 of the results. Exact reason I started TRT in my 40s. I was working out smarter and eating better than ever before and seeing worse results. TRT brought it back in balance.

You and Shannon should have a bench press competition and see who can lift the most until one of your shoulders pop. that would be awesome.
