Not really if you grew up around people from that era. You'll then understand the type of things that were still going on in the Jim Crow South and how blacks were still living. My grandad from MS and my granny from Arkansas, us southerners know what it was like

It really is eye opening for a white guy in California to hear these stories. The remnants of slavery are still alive and strong. Hope we can continue to push society forward even tho is seems like we’ve been going backwards lately

I went to a family reunion in Atlanta in the early 90's. We stayed in the country with my aunt. My cousins had to do a lot of work around the farm before school. They got out of school and came home to do more work. They didn't sit around watching TV and playing video games.

So good to see the great Sterling Sharpe looking back. Feel like we don't see him enough. My favorite part was the revelation that the tough times of childhood were filled with family! Those moments are sacred. Especially if the world is going to take you as far as these two brothers. Thank you Shannon for spending so much of your time sharing your bright, thoughtful light with us. And for making us all so proud. PeacEpeAcepeaCE.

I'm from NYC and my parents were from the Low-Country of South Carolina. We went down south every summer and I can tell you, what these boy are saying is REAL. Hog Pens, Chicken coops and feed (dried corn kernels). I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT. Listening to Shannon, always remind me of my uncles and aunts who grew up in the Jim Crow South. My mother had me in the garden when I could only crawl. Going back to the city at the end of the summer was always a sad time! Bathroom opposed to out-house, running water opposed to the pump, Chicken from the coop oppose to chicken on the shelf, Not to mention tan eggs from white. Yeah, I was born in the big city, but I'm just as country as those two (Did I forget wood burning stove?)
