SHAOLIN SOCCER MOVIE REACTION! FULL LENGTH REACTIONS, EARLY-ACCESS TO NEXT VIDEOS: / callmeclariss
All his life, an ordinary young man (Stephen Chow) has been treated like dirt. Still, he's never given up believing that all the world's problems could be solved with a little kung fu. So he's teaming up with a band of misfits - six friends who were kung fu masters in their youth - to form a soccer team that only he believes has a chance to win a $1 million grand prize. Together, they're going to apply their hidden talents to a whole new game -- and soccer will never be the same.

Most of Jackie Chan's movies are comedies, but the one that reminds me the most of this (in terms of how goofy the humour is) is probably _City Hunter_ from 1993. It's based on a Japanese comic of the same name, which may explain why the humour is so cartoonish, even by Jackie Chan's standards. Definitely worth a watch or a reaction, if you're in the mood for that sort of thing.

Though not a Kung Fu movie I suggest Shogun Assassin (1980). A Medieval samurai known as Lone Wolf wanders the country with his son to seek revenge against those who ruined his life. It's no comedy and it's the film Beatrix and her daughter watch at bedtime in Kill Bill 2. The sets, costumes, and sword work are amazing.

Talking about Mulan's heavy makeup, the actress actually starred as Mulan in a live action Mulan (2009). Not the Disney one, and it's far more depressing and realistic regarding the brutality of war.

The original version of this is better than the version you are watching, because the original have some extended scenes and the cg is slightly different from the version you are watching (ex. the text on paper on the can). also the music used in the dancing scene and ending is different, and the original has extended scene of the goalkeeper's hand bleeding before he burnt his hands.

Your constant expectation of the sterotypical romance trope in this movie is hilarious with it being a Stephen Chow film. As a comedian, Stephen Chow is expectedly self-deprecating, but also talks a lot about how he is always seen by media as a funny guy in funny scenes, and never a handsome movie star in romantic scenes. With this chip on his shoulder, as a filmmaker, Stephen Chow is well known for casting non-actors (several characters in this movie were first-time actors), as well as casting "not so good looking" people. This makes the casting of Zhao Wei a note of comedy in itself, being one of the most beautiful Chinese movie stars at the time being put in disfigured face makeup, then over the top fashionista makeup, and then finally in a bald cap.
@RocZi
@RocZi Год назад
thanks for your reaction. and very happy to see you enjoyed it. You can classify Stephen Chow's comedy as very sarcastic, and always subvert expectations. He has a formula in his comedy (someone already analyzed in another youtube video), and he uses seriousness to bring out the comedy by subverting your expectation. it doesn't appeal to everyone of course but most people do find it funny.

The English translation at 19:43 did a bit of injustice to what Sing said and made him sound so cruel. He actually said "No. If the shoes get worn off, I will throw them away. We must always look forward to a better future. I don't want to ever wear worn-off shoes again." In the original language, he didn't say "Things have changed. I have to think about the future." Besides this, there are also lots of other mistranslations in the film.

Its so absurd and funny that just because Iron Head can take a glass bottle to the head his boss just does it ANY time he does ANYTHING slightly wrong. Like the goofy world logic where that's just the natural progression and its so casual its not even acknowledged is what I live for.

The subtitles don't do it justice- translation is off. Also, certain meaning to jokes, statements, etc are more funnier/meaningful in Chinese if you understand the culture, folklore, and history. I'm sure with all cultures and movies. But if you loved the movie you'd appreciate it 10x more knowing the culture. That was an awesome review! First time watching!

@22:10 re: Breaking the Fourth Wall. You might be thinking of "metalepsis," but that's a literary term, I'm not sure if it's used in film studies. Loosely, metalepsis is a transition between or transgression of types of narrative, such as if the character talks to the narrator or says something for the audience's benefit, but doesn't directly address the audience. Similar but distinct from an aside, in which the character is speaking in universe but not intended to be heard by other characters (eg, many Shakespeare villains).

17:47 comment,, not levitating as he moved forwad as he moved up, essentially he seemed to have jumped or leapt. In kungfu this might be referring to Lightness Skill-there are two forms--1. Is accustomed to one's own body weight for great deftness in moving their own weight,,, the other 2 seems to be like a light touch on even fragile objects. He the person known to have done this, did not run on! water, but on the leaves, floating on the water, running fast enough and control such that he uses the touching of the leaf to propel him up enough perhaps as a rock can be skimmed on water, to use momentum and lightness skill to cross a narrow stream or some such.-Ernie Moore Jr.

There's a LOT of great martial arts movies, with a lot of incredible artists. If you're new to Kung Fu movies and are looking for a way to dip your toes in, I'd suggest starting with an unusual double feature. The first part is Fists Of Fury from 1971, with Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was the OG Kung Fu star. He all but created the martial arts genre in the West. He died at 32, but is still considered by many as the all time best. The second part of this double feature is from 2010 starring Donnie Yen as the character Bruce Lee played in Fists Of Fury. It's called "The Legend Of Chen Zhen". So it's Donnie playing Bruce in a sorta sequel. If you want a more modern, brutal martial arts movie, there's another incredible double feature: The Raid (Redemption), and The Raid 2. These are both a masterclass, with INSANE fight sequences. These are Indonesian, both directed by Gareth Edwards (Star Wars: Rogue One). It's what happens when you hire the very best martial artists in the business, and give them freedom to go wild. These are both rewatch movies. Beyond that, Jackie Chan has a HUGE filmography, stretching way back to the 70's. He's known for insane choreography and doing his own stunts. His movies are usually comedic, especially in the fights.

When are you going to watch Kung Fu Hustle (2004)? If you liked Shaolin Soccer (2001), then you will definitely love Kung Fu Hustle (2004). Kung Fu Hustle (2004) is directed, produced, written, and acted as main character by the legendary Stephen Chow himself, same as Shaolin Soccer (2001). So the comedy elements, tight storyline, cool CG elements, characters are all Stephen Chow's signature. There is no one else who produced humour like stephen chow and make real life anime-like movies, which makes it so fun to watch.

That and them being excited at getting new shoes and running the sponsors over, as well as backhanding the one telling them to calm down. XD Them hitting them in the wrong place because of their names, XD "No, HE'S Iron Head!" The cleaning staff getting annoyed and throwing a broom at them made me snort water out my nose.
