Shaper Tool Lift UPGRADE!

The rubber friction pad was... Let's say it did the job.
But here I am, three months later and sick of it. It wears out so quickly that it is no practical, and before I start fiddling around with different rubber grades, I decided to go full metal.
Instead of a spring to create the friction, I modify the design to be able to use a round bar and pinchable bushing and hope to reduce the maintenance intervals to a minimum.
Enjoy!

Nice job on your tool lifter . I'm building an air operated tool lifter for my 24" Rockford Shaper

Thanks! Pneumatic actuation sounds like a nice idea, too - it'll fit well with a hydraulic shaper!

You seem to really chew through that steel with your saw, may I ask what blades you're using?

Nothing special, just the regular Bi-Metal HSS you can get at any local hardware store. What I've learnt from experience is that long, slow strokes with decent down-pressure are more effective than short, fast strokes with little pressure. The teeth need some force to be able to bite into the material.

who is the maker of your shaper and what's the stroke length Adrian, thanks
@AstraWerke
@AstraWerke 4 года назад
It was built by Klopp, being a 375mm stroke.

If I understand what you did, that's brilliant. Very nice machining and a very unusual device, a ball coupler.

Absolutely great job , much better then rubber snubbed. As long as a few drops of oil get added . Enjoy your drive and the way you get your items made with very few tools and machines. Never accept a can't be done or that's not the way to do it. You find the way .

In my opinion restraints make the hobby more interesting. It forces you to plan ahead, figure any possible obstacles and find a way to work around them instead of just flipping the power switch and go ahead.

I like the way the rose joint slips in the mounting block, and of course nice use of the time machine! I’ve only managed to use a time machine once, that was for setting up a collaboration with Stefan Gotteswinter in my gear cutting in the shaper final video. The explanation was also very handy thanks mate ;-)

You made a real excellent job. Would love to own a shaper like yours.

Very nice work Adrian! I love your shaper. It looks like you could make use of a die filler as well. Thanks for the video.

Now Klopp cant sell rubber feet for this machine anymore, their solution made much more financial sense..
@AstraWerke
@AstraWerke 4 года назад
Financial sense for them, maybe... ;-) If they had gone down with their price somewhat, I might have given it a shot. But I consider it quite arrogant to be sitting on these cheap rubber pads probably ever since they sold their last shaper and then asking a price almost 1/5 of what I paid for an entire machine... So I did it my way :D

Great idea indeed! And the machine is a real beauty! Wish I had enough space in my little garage.....

Thank you! No space, no Problem! Mine also didnt fit through the door... Which is why I had to take it to bits, get the base casting around the corner and then re-assemble all 140 parts XD All the best Adrian

Adrian I always enjoy watching your video productions and your creativity. The visual and the music is always very clear but many times it is very difficult for me to hear what you are saying. Because I hear the music fine then I am assuming my hearing and my computer is working fine. So please try to get closer to the microphone or maybe a better microphone. Thanks as always for sharing.

Thanks for notifying - you're right, the music is a bit loud compared to the speech - I'll try bump the speech audio up a bit next time.
