Never understood this narrative because obviously players are going to get better at the sport as it evolves and as more people watch basketball, more money can be earned which means more competition/skilled players. Yes there have been rule changes that make offense easier but you have to accept the skill ceiling is a lot higher in the nba compared to an older era like the 80’s or 90’s. This is simply because nowadays a team can’t afford to have a big man who is there to just get rebounds and block shots. Back then there were some who got away with that or point guards who barely scored at all but in todays nba that would never fly as every player has to be able to do everything well.

It's just my opinion that a kid averaging 30ppg and leading one of the youngest teams in the league to 57 wins and the first seed in a competitive west is an MVP pedigree season. A guy like SGA may never have this sort of season again so winning an MVP would mean more for him at the end of his career. It feels like the NBA wanted to make amends for last year instead of awarding the honour to the most valuable player this season.

Those stats just factor in offense and they have a hard time factoring in defense which is half the game. Jokic is the best offensive player in the league but he is bad on defense. There are better players who are great on offense and defense who are more valuable than Jokic despite what your offensive numbers tell you.
