It was Shaquille O'Neal's first game facing his former team, the Orlando Magic, since his move to the Lakers. As tensions ran high and emotions soared, Shaq received a pivotal phone call from his father during halftime. This unexpected moment of connection seemed to fuel Shaq's fire even more, igniting a second-half performance that left fans in awe. With former teammates Penny Hardaway, Dennis Scott, and Nick Anderson watching from the sidelines, Shaq dominated the court, showcasing his unparalleled skill and determination. Witness the electrifying atmosphere and the sheer brilliance of Shaq as he leads the Lakers to victory, making a statement that resonates throughout the NBA.

Shaq didn’t even know his worth at first. He was ready to accept 80 million until Alonzo ended up with an over 100 million dollar contract. Then Shaq said oh ok I want 150. It was the first time contracts went that high. The league and Orlando were caught way off guard

@@benyah3390 we aren't dumb. We know things are manipulated. But w that reasoning you're saying nothing that's very entertaining happens without being decided beforehand and thats impossible. The Magic only were willing to pay once it looked like the Lakers would get him. When he asked for $120 million the Magic put a survey in the local paper to ask if fans thought he was worth it. They said no and that made him sign with LA. Once ownership knew he was about to sign then they were willing to pay him.

I remember watching Shaq do an interview with Schick Hern during halftime of a lakers game while he was still in college. He spoke about how he always wanted to play for the lakers when he was a kid. When he got traded to the lakers it made sense to me, Shaq was always a laker. I’ll admit that I’m biased but I STILL don’t consider Lebron a laker, he’s as much of a laker as Gary Peyton and Karl Malone are in my mind. I feel like this is another Big Franchise stealing rings from a Small Franchise moment 😐 But also, when you have Jerry West, etc LA makes a lot of sense Must have the culture around the franchise to capitalise on generational talent like Shaq It reminds me a lot of LeBron Cleveland wasn't doing right by him I have Jordan over LeBron, but the gap would be smaller if Cleveland had a Jerry Krause making moves and a Phil Jackson coaching LeBron I don't like that Shaq left, but I do understand it I also felt like Shaq wasn't wanting to contend against MJ once MJ returned But it took until 2000 for Shaq to win a ring anyway, so he could have stayed in Orlando in that regard Thank you for the video

Shaq probably would have had eight rings if stayed in Orlando. That team was championship ready and it's quite possible they could have beat Jordan and the Bulls in the playoffs again like they did in 95. It took the Lakers 4-5 years to build a team around Shaq and even then, their competition from the east wasn't that great great until they lost to the Pistons in one of those finals. That being said, it amazes me how stupid the Orlando fan base was to not realize Shaq's worth. I remember having friends that said "all he does is dunk". Even if that were true, a dunk is a score which is the goal of the game, so I don't see how saying "all a guy does is score" was ever supposed to be a criticism. Orlando should have given Shaq the deed to Disney World if that was what he wanted. Alas, it's all history now.

Yeah if Shaq would have stayed with the magic,it would have been no championships because magic team would have had to endure two more years of losing to the bulls before they broke up or getting beat by an up and coming pacers team, plus Penny got hurt somewhere in 98 or so and that team would have fell apart, and if he went to LA after the ealy 2000s Kobe wouldn't of had none of it but we'll never know

Wow! SHAQ was underpaid based off today’s figures 🤦🏾‍♂️ (I know this was back then) I just feel like they could’ve paid him a bit more

@@yoitsSmitty2004 Maybe Maybe Not. Maybe the Bulls Only get 2 Rings but they were done by 98' So again Prime Shaq & Penny would've just been getting Started. 99' Would've been Shaqs 7th yr in. Penny's 5th or 6th. The Lakers Definitely Not 3 Peating without Shaq there.

You ever leave a job for a better paying one?

I can answer that...yes. Great point. I taught in Detroit schools for over 14 years...many while being classified as a long-term sub. The district started offering teachers with outside teaching experience up to 12 years credit on the salary scale. I asked and they said "NO" because they did not count my service years as a long-term sub. I left and immediately took a $13,000/yr raise. That new district helped me move to a district closer to home with the same pay. They were sad to see me to, but totally understood my situation. Now in a year and a half, my salary will nearly double from what I was making in Detroit when I left. Like Shaq's move from Orlando to LA, it was a business decision. On addition, it is the factor of respect, and LA gave it to Shaq where Orlando matched it only after a reactionary move...

listen I get ya, the teams will not match your loyalty to them but only in extraordinary circumstances like some kinda Magic Johnson/kobe/larry bird type career situation. and don't be loyal to your college either if you lose billions or millions in the nba bc you got career ending injury they won't be there to help your family! Carson Wendtz was the only guy in north dakota we got that was on the upper level of QB position in football and helped his team to the super bowl , got injured and was off his original level of play after that...luckily for him everyone was sure he was destined for greatness and he got a 200 million dollar contract....thank goodness for his family they kicked his ass to the curb!!! @@lousanto1054

@@NebraskaPoliceDepartment Shaq would have 8 championships if he stayed in Orlando. He barely won 3 as it was in LA. The teams that LA beat in the Finals were weak.
