Hi Robert, thanks for your message. Sarah's amazing version was absolutely the inspiration. Once we did this tune, it got Sharón and me interested in doing more jazz versions of pop tunes, so we created a whole show of that material. We're currently doing a show in New York that matches standards with pop tunes on similar themes.
A few mentions of Sarah Vaughan's version here.........'Live in Japan' (1972). There is also a studio recording on 'Feeling Good' (1971). Anyway, there is another version by SV on youtube recorded in 1973 at the Continental Baths,(2nd tune), NYC. The video must have been left in the steam room but as always SV was in fine fettle and hilarious.
Ms. Clarke clearly has a magnificent voice, but I can't help but notice that this particular performance of this song was obviously influenced by the rendition offered by the late great Sarah Vaughan. You can find Ms. Vaughan's performance here on RU-vid.
