I have a Shar pei German Shepherd cross breed. Got her from a rescue when she was 1yr old. She is a sweet dog and so well behaved indoors but she is also super stubborn, strong willed and resists training. She has been the hardest dog to train that I've ever owned. At first I thought she might be a bit daft, lol, but I've come to learn that she just doesn't like being told what to do. When I first got her at 1yr of age she loved every dog she met and was wary of humans. I took her around lots of people and other dogs and considered her well socialized. Nonetheless around the age of 2yrs she started showing aggression while on leash. Mainly at other dogs but sometimes at strange humans too. I have hired a professional trainer and we are working on getting her to ignore strangers and dogs while walking on leash but it's been an uphill battle. She knows all the basic commands like sit, stay, come, lie down but chooses when she will obey. She is not food motivated. Oh she likes to eat but when she has her mind set on something she will not be distracted with treats. This also makes training difficult because she will even ignore steak and chicken when something else has her attention. I love her to bits and wouldn't trade her for the world. However I would not choose this breed again.

I hear you. My two dogs are English Mastiff/Shar Pei mixes and while they are now old and lazy, they were without a doubt the most difficult pups, I've ever raised. Luckily my lifestyle was a good match for them, and on the positive side they're are also incredibly loyal dogs.
I have a shar pei cross cane corsa and he is the most loving and protective dog we’ve had, brilliant guard dog yet so gentle with my daughter if we go out on walks and my daughter pops into the park he won’t take his eyes of her and the strangest thing is he loves to go on the trampoline with her in the garden not unattended obviously but they are the best of friends.
My brothers sharpei is 18months old he's very loving yet very independent . People he doesn't know he doesn't trust at all infact he goes nuts with strangers if they are walking past. When I go tomy mams the first thing he does is dive on me then licks me to death and barks knowing I've got him treats. My and my partner spend between 50 to 100 pounds a months on treats toys and shampoo ect he's not my dog but worth every penny
Hi I currently have a bullpei and love him he's well behaved he's 6 month and still working with him but we have a baby and 5 ur old and he's such a loving protective dog of us all I want to add a cane corso to the household and believe I will manage just want to ask a more experience keepers
I LOVE LOVE Shar Pei!! They are my heart and soul breed! I have owned purebred Shar Pei and Pei mixes for about 14 years and was blessed enough to own 4 purebred Pei at one time, it was pure heaven! All rescues, because most people should not own Shar Pei, they are not for the faint-hearted! I now have 2 purebred Shar Pei, 1 Pei x Amstaff, 1 Pei x Bull Terrier, as well as an American Bulldog. Shar Pei are amazing, but please know they are not easy to own and their health conditions can make them very costly! If you can't find one you can adopt, then please please find a kennel club registered breeder! Oh, 1.43 'eager to please their owners' - sorry but HAHAHAHAHAHA I almost fell off my chair!
We are having training problems with our little black one nugget. Attacking our other dog which is a pit German shepherd mix. We love her very much she's not even old enough for first rabies shot. We are really struggling with this. If anyone could help we would gladly listen.
Sorry you are having trouble. I commented above about my German Shepherd Shar pei mix. Both of those breeds can be challenging but I believe it's the shar pei in my dog that makes her so stubborn and resistant to training. She never showed any aggression to other dogs until she was over 2yrs old. She had lots of socialization with dogs and people so I was shocked when she started showing this other side to her personality. My regret was that I waited too long to enlist the help of a trainer. I have a trainer now but undoing her bad behavior (mainly leash aggression, she's a sweetheart indoors) has been hard. I was trying to deal with the problem myself and getting nowhere. If your puppy is already showing aggression I would recommend that you seek professional help sooner rather than later.
