yes and since they were both in their prime from the latest 1970s until after 1990, who knows how many mixed doubles titles they could have won together.
This was really cool to watch, and everyone seemed to have a lot of fun. I watched in person a legends' women's doubles match at the US Open in 2019 on the Friday before the main draw matches started that reminds me a little bit of this one. Lindsay Davenport/Tracy Austin vs. Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario and, you guessed it, Martina (the Martina, of course), who was at that time 62 years of age, the eldest player on that court by at least five years. She and Arantxa won that day in straight sets, in a setting that was a bit more competitive than the one shown here, with Martina being the only player not to drop serve. Coincidence? Nah! Just the most talented female player that I've ever seen, still going strong!
My favorite point of this clip was Sharapova hitting forehand return winner off Roddick serve and then Martina giving her "high five" after the point -lol.
Women Power. They may be on different tennis teams, but they are always on Team Women; Martina acknowledged this with that high five because she was one of the greats that broke down any barriers still standing regarding the level of talent among the women (and, girls). Sharapova had just demonstrated how skilled the women are today. I loved Chrissy Everet, Margaret Court, Steffi Graf, etc., but, the players of today are so much more athletic. (Note: not more skilled; more athletic. There is a difference.)
@@pauljohns4484 And made up by her shoulders, neck. You think Chrissie is beautiful, or Camilla Georgi, or Steffie after she is with Andre a few years. Then you see how Sharapova looks just standing on the court and you see how much deeper her natural beauty is, just the overall lustre of her skin.
Sharapova/Mc Enroe 2 champions de tennis que j'adorais. Le temps passe trop vite... Ils continuent bien sûr à jouer pour notre plus grand plaisir, pour qui le tennis est une passion aussi bien sur le terrain que devant la TV.
McEnroe - the most talented tennis player to ever grab a racket. He is the only player I've seen (and I've seen them all for the last 60 years or so) that can put the tennisball in a place where the laws of physics almost would overrule it. Truly amazing! Just saw the whole thing, and his forehand at around 5:55, just demonstrates the above. No power needed, just pure feeling.
(RU)
Check out Martina's doubles and mixed doubles achievements!!!. Along with Pam Shriver they completely dominated women's doubles so much so that their doubles records especially in Grand Slams will never be equalled never mind beaten. As for Martina's singles records especially winning Wimbledon an amazing 9 times, that proves she's the GOAT of women's tennis WITHOUT QUESTION!!!.
I never cared for McEnroe during his playing days but he has grown on me in retirement. He can still play. Sharapova was always a favorite for obvious reasons. 😄
Eventough I must admit that Federer and Nadal are the greatest to ever play, John Mcenroe is -and will always be- my favorite tennis player ever. I won't forget how happy I was watching him play in the 80's when tennis was even broadcasted by open TV in México. McEnroe vs Borg in Wimbledon was nothing short of epic. Beautiful times.
You don't know a thing about tennis if you think Fed/Nadal are the "greatest" lol. Going by records, it isn't remotely close. They're in the top 5 but DISTANT from the true GOAT. You're not a kid - YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER. Think about who's won a Grand Slam? It isn't Fed. It isn't Nadal. Unbelievable....
@@dataciphercalm down, is just personal opinion. I did not say it is universal dogma. I did not say it was your opinion. You may think Rod Laver is the GOAT and its Ok, nobody Is gonna tell you nothing about your tennis accument , like you have done with mine. That does not mean that millions will not consider Novak, Fed and Nadal as the GOAT depending on personal preference.
McEnroes abilities on the net are still awesome. And Martina N. was - and is still one of the best serve n volley female players I ve seen. Both together, John McEnroe & Martina Navratilova, would be one of the best constellation and Mixed for best volley and clever net play, even in retirement.
This shows the magic of tennis. The Grandmasters of Tennis will always have fun as long as they can stand on the court. And when I think about it, there is nobody who never shows up again after his/her career (exceptions harden the rule).
@@sandidulictrupcevic5527 oh! I wasn't following tennis at that time. But would've loved to see some doubles action from her in the latest part of her career.
She likes doubles...she has shown to be good but her shoulder prevented her from using it too much so doubles would be risky if she's also entered in singles.
2:22 Mac N Roll's signature old-school bully joke is priceless. He's truly a legend. The next generation kids just couldn't get that when they were told bullying ain't no good. Healthy inspiring bully can make another superstar. Maria Sharapova is absolutely once-a-life-time gorgeous athlete in history
Great tennis, echoing previous comments. Mac is hilarious when he pretends he is mad like he used to actually be. It's good to see these players a little less serious and having fun.
How good were these “old school” players in their prime? (They are still darn good!) Sharipova was the only one active on tour (and in top form…she is such a great player), but the skills of the legends is so great that they fit right in and are still competitive with contemporary pros. It is clear that even in retirement they are still playing a lot of tennis. Note: I have watched many matches with the legends and current top players, but I have yet to see Jimmy Connors. Was he disliked that much that he is never invited, or, does he choose not to be involved? He was my favorite player and I would love to see him out there.
heard the commentator say how McEnroe wanted to played mixed at Wimbledon with Steffi Graf- they did enter one year- Martina had warned him about this- saying if Steffi feels the slightest twinge- she'll drop out of the doubles to protect her singles chances... Mac didn't believe her, until exactly that happened the year they played together. Steffi wasn't known for honoring her commitments- that's a big deal in the player's lounge.
