These videos are amazing. The time and effort and length you’ve gone to is astounding. They’re the only videos I’ve found which really help explain what this system can do. Im thinking of investing in one and I have a couple of questions if you have the time to answer: do you still use the system a year after you made these videos? And do you actually use it as a synthesiser to make music (whatever that means!) as opposed to an amazing sound design machine (to then sample and use elsewhere)? Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for the feedback. Much, much appreciated. I try to do my research avoiding assumptions, but the 'shared' history just slipped through. Reading back the earlier text, it could still be interpreted as 'the cv-bus shared system' got it's name from the 'cv-bus', but it felt much better to reupload and get it right. Thanks for your help!
Been slowly building a shared system over the last few years, DPO is on the way, then the last pieces of optomix and echophon (or Mimeophon)... was resigned to just snag the mimeophon, but that third voice with the echophon is compelling! To stereo or not to stereo?
Echophon is fun and belongs to the original Shared. But Mimeophon is a masterpiece and it also has a 3rd voice hidden in it. Stereo? Definitely. My first 'hack' of the Shared was adding an X-PAN. Even a Rosie opens it up because you can mix clean voices with an FX send/return.
I've been wondering the same, between an Echophon and Mimeophon. My system is already somewhat stereo with an X-Pan and a QPAS (+ a Morphagene) so a Mimeophon probably makes most sense but used Echophon's seems to be falling in price a fair bit so let's see what I eventually get.
Love your videos. They help me navigate and understand a lot of modules as I’m researching my first system. Speaking of, I’m thinking of saving up for a Shared System rather than build my own (at least as a start). Do you have any tips or feedbacks that could help a beginner make a choice ? Thanks in any case !
Hi Pierre, sorry for the late response. After a long journey that started with the old Shared System I'd say you can't go wrong with the latest version (B&G Plus), but I'd definitely add a X-PAN in the bottom row because the shared is mono.
I think the silver faced modules sound better. Just kidding, but! I guarantee you that 40 years from now, I'll bet you the kids will be paying extra for silver panel MN modules, and not just QMMG. I wish I had one of those. I wonder if 4 MMG = 1 QMMG? Definitely be cheaper. I have to send my MMG in for a new frequency pot... or something. I hate letting it out of my sight. I love that thing. So special.
