Thanks for sharing history; you never know how much this information is crucial to the older generation in which I belong and the young turks who never interacted with this kind of information.
I am a Gen Z, and I am enjoying your content. Looking at your channel's growth rate, I have learned you need not waste time inviting people to subscribe to your channel. All you need to have is the content the audience needs. Every day, I have to check what you have uploaded, and then I have to watch and re-watch. You're doing a great job, sir. Be blessed
The late Hon Shariff Nassir bin Taib served mvita ,formerly Mombasa central ,from 1974 UpTo 2002. The Tanzanian /Zambia railway is known as Tazara railway.
Good content James. This model of Moi of being close to King-Pins from each region really benefited his regime. They could be "illiterate" but they sure held sway with their peopleFor example his political reps were: Sharrif Nassir at the coast, Mutisya in Ukambani, Raila in Nyanza etc. As you mentioned, Moi then reserved ministerial appointments to professional and competent chaps. Interestingly, Nassir "opposing Moi" was timed to coincide with a pan african event being held in Nairobi.
I beg to differ with your statement regarding my former MP the late Shariff Nasir. He was educated to the same level like most of the leaders of that time and Moi had him in his circle mostly because of his loyalty, which is rare virtue in these times!!
Please look for an article late Nzamba Kitonga wrote comparing Prof. Mbithi who once was a VC at UON,with the late Sharif Nassir.More insights.Thank you.
I'm am enjoying your serialisation of the dark days of Kenya even though we don't have light yet. One correction is this, East African Community collapsed because of ideological differences between Nyerere and Charles Mugande Njonjo, Kenya's A.G, who was collaborating and supporting the apartheid colonial system in South Africa, at the same time, Kenyatta Senior was senile and Njonjo was running the government. The Kenyan greed and abuse of Tanzanians was another reason and Kenyans are hated right from Arusha up to Cape Town as man eat man society who has never stood with any liberation struggle in Africa. There will never be another functional EAC unless we equitably share the assets of the defunct organisation and apologise to Tanzania and Uganda. Okello Nyakwar Jaramba.
Kenyatta was never senile He was old but very functional There is soo much obsession with Njonjo... if he was as powerful as he is made to be in stories then he would have been the one to succeed kenyatta. Going by how Suluhu has been visiting Kenya to say there are problems between the two countries is just incorrect. As long as the top leadership are working together ignore wat happens apo chini EAC is very much together n Somali just joined... EAC is in full force
1979 Voter turnout was 67.3%. Although the post of President of Kenya was due to be elected at the same time as the National Assembly, Daniel arap Moi was the sole candidate and was automatically elected without a vote being held. Following the elections, a further 12 members were appointed by President Moi.
The Mlolongo or Queuing system of election was not intended to eliminate poor performers at election time. Rather, it was aimed at scaring supporters of candidates who were known or considered to be anti-government within the one-party state. And it was common for Moi's sycophants like Mulu Mutisya, Nasir, Moses Mudavadi, Okiki Amayo, William ole Ntimama, Kariuki Chotora and Ezekiah Barngetungy, to openly declared certain candidates as "watu wa Nyayo."
It was a one party state, there was no option. Now we have other parties, whether some one was in KANU or not. KANU party died a long time unless you are being political.
Didn't he mean Kanu as a political party, an entity will rule for 100 years. Not the individuals who were aligned to Kanu. The individuals go but the entity remains and it is no longer in power.
